I don't know what it is, but I have to admit I actually cried over someone of the comments directed towards me  I think it's good that people can headcanon Solas as ace, but I don't understand why people have to be so mean when you don't agree..,

I don't see anything wrong with headcanon Solas as ace (although I don't see it.  Even thought his romance doesn't have a sex scene I still think he is not asexual.  Not having a sex scene does allow people to RP their Inky as ace, though) but if people are making horrible comments to prove their headcanons then there's something wrong going on.

It's become more established so they can play around with the genre a bit more and romance pigeons. Laidlaw says it's become more accepted, less 'publisher weirdness'. "From experience you're going to end up on Fox." Weekes says there is more confidence with them.
"...There are two types of lack of confidence. one of them is: We don't do it. And then there other form of the lack of confidence, the early growing pains, I think, is the 'Well, how do we know it's sex? We have to make sure they have all the boobies.' As we've grown up a little bit we've gotten to a point now where we're not averse to showing skin if it's appropriate for the scene. But we've gotten to a point where we can show love scenes that aren't necessarily going to be just 'YouTube fodder' for lack of a better word. It's actually scenes in a relationship that might be a little like someone might have in real life. Does it change the way you write or approach romance in games?
Romance scenes are expensive because they have their own separate dialogue and cutscenes, is it really worth it? Laidlaws says they looked at the data and decided, yes, is was worth it. 42% completed playthroughs completed a romance. Tried to be as inclusive as possible. Writing team was enthusiastic. They created the budged for six romances. Laidlaw: "Then THIS guy (Weekes) happened and we got more!" Gave them more chance for exploration with the different romances.

"It is not just 'insert approval tokens until sex happens.'.... I'm just going to keep lobbing ale at Morrigan." --Weekes
"I got you some cake!" --Laidlaw

Weekes remarks on how all different romances are equally valid and people are going to be emotionally involved.
Josephine's romance is adorable, sort of first love type thing.
They also wanted romances for people who were older, experienced: "People who are married and their curling up on the couch having just got the kid to go to sleep, and have an hour and a half before they have to go to sleep, and just are like, 'You know I'm old and I'm married, and a little tired right now, and I just want something that's like fun and escapist and doesn't assume that I've never had sex before.'" --Weekes

"Why don't you just have characters that are married at the beginning of the game?"
Laidlaw: the big challenge is expecting that emotional engagement because it's an RPG and this is your character and, oh you love this person 'pretty cold wall to run into'. He talks about how The Darkness used an existing relationship that he was sold on.
Exploring past relationships can be a big risk because you don't know how a player will react to it.
Romance may not be the focus of some games but people fixate on them.

Inquisitor is going through a bunch of **** so natural to want companionship

Because Inquisition can take so long, wanted to space it out throughout the entire length. Remind the player the romance is still there: greetings change, conversation lines are different and not just ones about the romance.

The fact that you're playing it ironically means you don't feel like you have to emotionally engage, 'there just pigeons, I don't have to worry about that'...that is the reason some of my most gut punch moments I ever read are in Terry Prachet novels. Because they are funny and you're laughing, and that's what gets you to let your guard down and that's when he just stabs you in the gut." --Weekes

Kinda general answers here. Some games could do good, some could do bad.

"Why do the NPCs not initiate the romance?"
"Because when the NPCs initiate it, players lose their sh*t is the short version." --Weekes

He sees it as limiting to a certain kind of romance where you aren't surprised that someone has an interest in you. "And that suuucks....That is an entire flavor of romance that we are preemptively taking off the shelf." When they try otherwise it blows up. There's a group of players that don't play for romance. Laidlaw's thought experiment: "If the player starts showing romantic tendencies with anyone we may be able to turn it on for other characters."
There are still people angry and confused when they ended up in the shower with Traynor. "How did this happen? I thought it was a platonic shower!"
Laidlaw was angry and confused because that scene RROD his xbox.

"Favorite aspect of writing/creating romances?"
Hilary loves marketing them, being able to bring them to the audience in art or trailers.
Weekes says he doesn't write for plots but writes for moments "For me there is always a pivotal moment that is the reason I wanted to do that romance." Garrus head bump, Bull pulling your arms, Solas and the Vallaslin. The 'romantic tension moments'
Laidlaw "This won't make everyone happy, but it's going to make someone happy."

I hang about on imgur a lot and that site has a weird love/hate relationship with tumblr right now, so while I get to see a lot of the funny things about it (I just love the run on sentences with no grammar for some reason) I've seen the awful side to it too. I put it down to emotional teenagers, but it's a scary place. ._.

 

A comic artist who took the mickey out of tumblr's less than pretty tendencies got fracked because of it. Forced to resign from their job and everything.

I finally completed Solasan last night on my canon save and got an Orlesian Mage Hat in there. I'd say it were time to make Solas dress more ridiculously, but he's already been in an Orlesian mask for half the game (helmets are off). But maybe when I feel vindictive enough for an obnoxiously pink outfit (maybe when I redo the final battle).
