If you are a reasonable person, you don't care about other's headcannons. Because, whatever. Who cares if I want to headcannon Solas as a half-raptor, pansexual, god from transsexual Transylvania? No one should.

Trust me...you don't want to know any more about it. It's honestly scary...at least in the section of deep-space tumblr that was unfortunately surfaced.

 

Only tangential, but can I say how much I love the phrase "deep-space tumblr"?  It conjures up the mental image of a hidden realm of madness where dwells mighty Azathoth and his daemonic piping flutes.  Yes, that sounds about right.

We've had the Word of Weekes for some time now. He specifically said that it's up to the player as an individual to decide. 

 

That's what annoys me so much (along with people being rude when DarthEmpress made an innocuous comment, sorry that happened to you). Weekes statement means there is no canon other than headcanon, So bashing anybody for either choice is stupid. 

 

Word of Weekes was that it was left up to interpretation whether or Solas and Lavellan had sex, not Solas' sexuality.

 

Leaving a character's sexuality up to headcanon leads to another DA2 situation where people start claiming that Isabela is straight because she never hit on a woman in their game (yes, I've seen people claim this. And the same about Leliana)

Knowing how rabid some fans get, Weekes has probably already gotten some tweets. 

 

I'm also not sure how much I want to get involved in this. People can headcanon what they want, as it was purposefully left ambiguous. Just don't dictate to people how they should view him, and we'll all get along fine. 

Yeah , not touching that with a 10 ft pole and I don't think writers should either. Because honestly they have said enough and those buttheads that bothered DarthEmpress are just trying to bully their headcanon to others.

On the subject, I follow an ace Solas fan or two and I appreciate some of their perspectives since they tend to focus on emotions and such, which I'm more interested in. When I read fics, I like things that aren't too graphic or specific (I you, smut fanatics, and glad you're there to serve needs, but it's not quite my thing), but focus on emotions and events, even though I am not asexual and nor do I headcanon Solas that way. But in other words, I welcome multiple perspectives.

 

As long as people are civil and cool about it.

Sort of...I'm looking to get a tattoo this next week and I want something dragon age related, possibly, but I'm looking for something that you'd only know was dragon age if you asked me, or if you played it yourself. I want something very small and very subtle. Thought a rune would work, but I don't think they are well defined enough. I wish I knew a good artist that could help me come up with some ideas.

It's similar to the reaction to equal-opportunity mods (bi!Solas, bi!Cass, etc). I remember headdesk'ing a blog that became very... emotional because someone had the audacity to make a bi!Dorian mod. I believe they literally said something along the lines of, "That's it, they've ruined what little representation we had in gaming". I was thinking "This is a BioWare game you're talking about, you know?"

 

I'm sorry one of ours got attacked, but honestly I think the best bet is just to leave it be and shake your head at this behavior.

I follow a few ace blogs and never had issues with what they post. Like Hidden, I welcome several points of view. Also during valentines, the best solas cards were from an ace I follow .

 

I don't get why more aces fix on Cole. Cole is truly assexual, in canon.

 

 

Solas talks about sex and enjoyable side benefits. Calling him a sexy egg is in character. Is truly odd that you would rant on someone for that, when the character himself gets told he is being grim and fatalistic in the hopes of getting Lavellan to bed, and Solas answers it is a BENEFIT, not an insult. Those crazy people are making themselves a new Solas that was not on the game.

@Avejejed - Love your idea for a spell sigil, as a tattoo. Try out this thread, for some great shots. I know some of the spell/staff sigils are quite visible, in those that have them.

Agreed.  It's by no means perfect, but BioWare is IMO one of the best studios when it comes to representation, and the developers take great pains to be thoughtful and inclusive.  So it's always a little strange when I see people reaching for the torches and pitchforks.  Surely we want to encourage BioWare to be responsive toward the fans and inclusive in their games, not scare them off the idea.

This is why I want an ace!LI in the games.  Ace fans deserve to have an actual asexual character, not a character who can you interpret as ace but also has a lot more evidence to suggest that he's not.

 

I'd love to see more romances in Bioware games that don't have sex as the win condition.

This.  Sadly this is why we can't have nice things.  I hate it when people get all up-in-arms and angry at how someone's way of thinking isn't the same as their own.  To be honest, that's part of the reason why I don't look at the forums here too much, too many arguments (ME3 for a BIG example).  At least here is safe xD

This is what I was going to say. I would still not bother Mr. Weekes with trying to get a confirmation though, people can headcanon what they like and I don't see any reason to drag this on further and get Mr. Weekes involved.

I honestly feel bad for the Bioware writers. They really do go out of their way to make the games as inclusive as possible, and while this should be something every studio does, it's not. They're one of the only studios I can think of that has a character with a chronic illness, which is awesome. They do extremely well with representing different sexualities, and their race representation isn't bad either. But it's just never quite enough- there's always /something/ they're missing that people are going to jump on and focus on, so instead of being celebrated as being extremely progressive, they're derided for what they've missed.

Also, slightly on-topic in terms of this discussion, but reading back on the PAX romance talk, what did they mean by Anders ninjamancing Hawke? It was in the same paragraph as the reason more NPCs don't initiate the romance, but I can't remember my Hawke ever being approached by Anders in terms of interest? (Unless he did and I'm really dim and didn't take it as him trying to initiate romance)
