Really really sorry folks for being That Guy: last time a discussion of this nature was going down in the thread, someone (it slipped my mind as to who it was) posted a gentle reminder to be careful about bringing drama from other sites or about specific people into this thread, because the BW mods aren't keen on it (or something like that). It hadn't occurred to me before reading that post but yeah. I concur.

Wait...what the actual eff?
I'm not much of an NSFW art viewer, but that image made me giggle. I don't understand why people get so damn insulting and defensive: it made you laugh, why is someone getting bent out of shape over that? It may not have been their intention but they don't know your humour and they shouldn't be so mean over it. Pay no mind to the weirdos on tumblr, they clearly have no sense of humour, stay here where it's safe and crazy (but in a good way!)
To the haters, I'd like to say:
Thank you! I'm sorry for constantly bringing tumblr drama in here, but all of you are just so understanding and kind ![]()
When I teach my students about debate, we go over the definitions of "antagonism" and "agonism." Agonistic debate tactics (i. e. what wee Romans and Greeks were taught) centers on debate being like a dance or a sword fight with parries and thrusts. You allow others to have their say and counter that, but maintain a respectful distance and allow the other person to be heard. Antagonistic debate (i. e. the Tumblr crowd apparently) is shrill and blunt--absent elegance and absent respect for the issue being discussed. Antagonistic debate wants to absolutely silence the other side by screaming louder and/or using intimidating rhetoric.
What makes me especially upset about Tumblr is how some of these people are running people out and then cordoning off the fandom. There have been some really great artists who have stopped doing DA art because of such unwarranted and vitriolic reactions. No one gets to dictate absolutely the terms of a conversation on a public forum like Tumblr. And yet . . .
I would advise you to ignore them, just to not give them the satisfaction. This is what they want. However, you seem like a sensitive and empathetic person, and if their vitriol is causing you undue stress, I would just take a break, for your own health.
But really, you don't owe them anything. They do not get to dictate the conversation through bullying.
The best thing about this is that Solas absolutely favors agonistic as opposed to antagonistic debate. He would probably like some of his fans' debate styles about as much as he likes tea.
I never knew about agonism vs. antagonism - that's very interesting, thank you! I just don't see the need to reply to some with just "f___ off" instead of coming out and saying "I think you're being rude." I was told by one of the ace Solas fans when I queried them that they don't have time to keep posting Ace 101 in the Solas tags and be "friendly" all the time.

what's the source for the pictures?
I forgot to link the URLs? Oh noes!
I actually did a quick google search for that "Shut Up" gif but then remembered I could go back in this thread and find it. So the pics were from the search:
Blushy Solas is https://www.tumblr.c...sition blogging
LavellanxSolas picture is https://www.tumblr.c...dragon age hell
I have no idea how to embed a video but this has to be seen by the solas thread.
i burst out laughing within the first 5 seconds.
Why? Why do you do this? I'm giggling now.
On topic: Solas's head is shinier than Arlathan's future.

There's a bit of truth to that - though I think they are shitheels so I don't want to give them the satisfaction of me agreeing with them. The issue is, with ANY marginalized group, they tend to become encyclopedias for people about THEIR issues. It's not really their job to educate you or the general public - anymore than it is yours - it's your job to look stuff up on your own. I'm not saying you did anything wrong or were asking out of malice, but just saying that it's a common frustration I see among my friends who are trans. It becomes exhausting when you're just fielding questions about "issues". It's no more fun if all someone did was ask you about your religion/politics and noone every asked you anything about you as a person.
But to echo what Giton said. You seem to be taking it hard, so maybe taking a break from it would help and you can revisit the tumblarg maybe when the DLC comes out and people are less...bizarre.

I don't think he necessarily wants to just go and release them ASAP, thinking that will solve everything. He's aware some of his decisions have not been the best ones (and he is self-deprecating about that on a couple of occasions). The gods might be blighted, angry, something's clearly up. I think his plan probably has multiple steps, whatever it is. He also knows how they were before, which was why he did what he did. As Cole says "you did it to save them" - save the elves or perhaps save the unaffected gods too. Could mean both, if the gods were also warring.
And then there's this thing from the red lyrium in the Fade in Here Lies the Abyss
Spoiler
You know, this codex makes me think the gods themselves are trying to find a way out - not that Solas is going to free them. The sound of the last two lines in particular - 'We have found the dreams again. We will awaken.' The focus on 'we' sounds like it's something they have done, something they will do, not someone else. So maybe Solas is trying to keep them contained, rather than free them, while the gods are trying to escape. Maybe that's what we'll have to deal with in DA4. The gods have escaped. And if the hopes of DA4 being in the north is true, guess what else is north? Arlathan Forest. It could just be the same name, but it could also be the site of the city, before Tevinter sunk it. So just because we've got Fen'harel in the south doesn't necessarily mean the gods are there, or their gate out of their prison is.
This is all complete speculation that popped up in a moment, so feel free to tear this theory to shreds if we've had evidence to the contrary ![]()

That's a theory I've held on to for a long time. After all, how exactly do you pacify a slave population of mages? You'd need some way to dampen their power, and the ink used in vallaslin is made with blood.
<snip>
Also, the whole "vallaslin are slave markings" thing gives a rather grim slant to the title of Keeper, no?
If the position of Keeper was updated from something negative to something positive, much like how the vallaslin was changed, that would be really interesting! If they still wore sylvanwood rings bearing the image of Fen'Harel, then maybe the Dread Wolf was like the chief of police and they acted as his lieutenants? I think someone a million pages ago suggested this as well - that Fen'Harel might be the title of a position and that multiple people may have held it over time.
Remember the Mask of Fen'Harel? Wearing a mask would be a great way to obscure the wearer's face and keep regular folks from knowing when a new Dread Wolf had taken the place of the old. If Solas acted as the Dread Wolf while working secretly to end slavery, then that might explain why the Forgotten Ones knew him for his cunning, while the elven pantheon still thought he was on their side.
The main reason I like this theory is because it means Solas could be telling the truth about growing up in that village to the north, even if it was thousands of years ago. And that while many assume the name 'Solas' is fake, it could in fact be his real birth name - the one he used before assuming the title of Dread Wolf.
TLDR - Solas is basically the Dread Pirate Roberts ![]()

Instead of releasing them, he's looking for a way to keep them sealed? Or looking for a cure to the blight, since it seems they're blighted with red lyrium? It would also give us a culprit to who killed Felassan, since I'm not convinced it was Solas. Maybe it was Falon'din looking for an eluvian to get back to the waking world?

I've always assumed that Solas's plan is to free the gods he locked away purely on Cole's banter post-breakup when he says "... and to free them-", but really, Solas stops him before he says anything that could be constructed one way or the other. If we assume he does intend to free the gods, what changed that forced him to do a complete 180 and undo what he did?
All I can think of is how he mentions how he was reckless and how he thought he knew everything, but I don't think this means that the pantheon were entirely innocent. Regardless of how reckless and arrogant he was, he was still clever. They did need to be locked away, but perhaps he focused too much on cutting off the hydras head, without realizing the problem went far beyond the pantheon themselves. With this, how would unleashing them once more benefit the People?
Lately I've been less convinced that his intention is to free the gods.
Anyway, I'm rambling. I love the idea of the pantheon breaking themselves out.

Here's to hoping we get a scene like this then:

I've been wondering about how long the title of Keeper has been in use. It turns out it's not just a Dalish thing, it dates back to at least Halamshiral and the Dales.
http://dragonage.wik...om/wiki/Evanura
The codex mentions a "High Keeper of June", which is interesting since we haven't seen any clans affiliated with any one particular god. That's not to say they don't exist, only that we haven't seen any besides possibly the elves in the Tirashan Forest who may worship the Forgotten Ones.
"Keeper" could be an old holdover from Arlathan. The idea of a Keeper dedicated to a particular god makes me think of an upper slave, or perhaps a reeve:
http://en.wikipedia....Reeve_(England)
Also, I'm still hoping we get an ending like this one:

Oh no, now I'm getting flashbacks to ME with a f!Shepard wearing a dress. DAMNIT GIRL, SHOW SOME DIGNITY!
But yes, that'd be something lovely to see in future games. I know it's got to be hella expensive, but it really breaks my immersion when my girl walks around like John Wayne. She doesn't even ride horses that much!
I miss the sassy Hawke walk. Come to think of it, I miss a lot of things about DA2.
