This moody, lovely song is sort of making me think about Solas and related things right now

*seal clapping* I really like this. :D Someone please write this up in 'fic form!

I've always assumed that Solas's plan is to free the gods he locked away purely on Cole's banter post-breakup when he says "... and to free them-", but really, Solas stops him before he says anything that could be constructed one way or the other. If we assume he does intend to free the gods, what changed that forced him to do a complete 180 and undo what he did?

All I can think of is how he mentions how he was reckless and how he thought he knew everything, but I don't think this means that the pantheon were entirely innocent. Regardless of how reckless and arrogant he was, he was still clever. They did need to be locked away, but perhaps he focused too much on cutting off the hydras head, without realizing the problem went far beyond the pantheon themselves. With this, how would unleashing them once more benefit the People?

Lately I've been less convinced that his intention is to free the gods.

Anyway, I'm rambling. I love the idea of the pantheon breaking themselves out.

Still catching up. :)

My interpretation of, 'and to free them' *gasp' was that Cole about to say, 'and to free them would BRING DOOMY DOOMS UPON ALL THE WORLD' and Solas cut his mind-reading off before the Inquisitor could realize that he was not talking about a bunch of crappy archaeologists that got stuck in an elven defense vanity mirror.

Here's to hoping we get a scene like this then:

klv1G16VtTcAw.gif

I've been wondering about how long the title of Keeper has been in use. It turns out it's not just a Dalish thing, it dates back to at least Halamshiral and the Dales.

http://dragonage.wik...om/wiki/Evanura

The codex mentions a "High Keeper of June", which is interesting since we haven't seen any clans affiliated with any one particular god. That's not to say they don't exist, only that we haven't seen any besides possibly the elves in the Tirashan Forest who may worship the Forgotten Ones.

"Keeper" could be an old holdover from Arlathan. The idea of a Keeper dedicated to a particular god makes me think of an upper slave, or perhaps a reeve:

http://en.wikipedia....Reeve_(England)

Also, I'm still hoping we get an ending like this one:

Spoiler

I think in the Dales, the Keepers were the intellectuals and high priests.

Elven Magisters in other words, that may or may not have wielded as much political power. (Do we even know what kind of government or economy the Dales had? That's the kind of thing that interests me.

So when the Dalish armies were defeated and the civilians thrown into alienages, it probably seemed natural that the mages with knowledge of Arlathan and the fallen Dales and the gods would have influence. I'm reminded of the rabbis gaining more influence and the priests' declining during the years when the Babylonians enslaved the Hebrews. The Keepers morphed from Magisters/Historians and magic nerds that were the Dales' own Recovery of the Old Ways department to the leaders of the various clans.

So, like Corypheus was High Priest of Dumat and had his own 'Best Temple', the elven deities had theirs in the Dales.

God, Frozen has ruined that saying forever, hasn't it.

Joining phrases like "Who you gonna call?" and "What is love?"

I'm interested in how the dalish universally agreed to be ruled by mages especially if it wasn't something carried over from the Dales. As important as reclaiming what was lost is the history with Tevinter is a lot more recent. I could buy some clans deciding that mages get to be in charge because they're closer to what a elf should be but all of them?

It might be a holdover from Tevinter slavery. After all, mage slaves are often freed and/or given greater freedom than non-mage slaves, if I remember correctly. The Dales might have formed with a similar social structure...educated mages/upper slaves on top.

Intended to be part of something larger but I need to stop picking at and editing this part of it over and over and over, so I posted it. And it is a pretty self-contained snapshot.  I am not exactly satisfied. My writing used to be more...elastic? But it will do for the moment (until I inevitably edit again).

There is literally no part of DA:I that doesn’t get better after the Big Reveal at the end, though. Just consider:

  • The Dread Wolf has read all of Hard in Hightown
  • The Dread Wolf rather enjoys those frilly little cakes in the Orlesian markets and hates tea to the point of Grumpy Cat Face in ten stages
  • The Dread Wolf Should Spend Less Time On The Internet In The Fade And Enjoy The Fresh Air And Sunlight, Friends Say
  • The Dread Wolf set fire to his own coat tails and then pretended nothing had happened until Vivienne called him out on it
  • The Dread Wolf was introduced as an ‘elven manservant’ at the Winter Palace and gave no fucks, he’s just here for the drinks
  • The Dread Wolf’s aesthetics have been described as ‘unwashed apostate hobo’ by reliable authorities (and ‘frumpy grandpa sweater chic’ by me, just now)
  • The Dread Wolf is definitely an ass man.

Those reasons are why, after the initial shock wears off, my Lavellan won't panic too hard about the whole Dread Wolf thing. She has seen too much to be awestruck.

Exactly. If he's pretty much the same, I think she'll be like "ok...so...now what??"

Yep, same. Especially after, you know, meeting Mythal.

She's gone through some serious character development and questions things and has even had Solas remove her vallaslin. She felt like there was a new beginning there.

The "elven serving man" thing cracked me up when that happened anyway. Just given the whole elven societal status and the necessity that this powerful mage and important member of The Inquisition had to be called that for political reasons.

It got funnier after knowing he wasn't just an ordinary elf.

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I went back in time to 2009 (back to when I was playing DAO) and showed all this to my past self. Or better yet, what would my past self's reaction be if I was told that the Dread Wolf would be made a party member and a love interest? Would I believe any of this? Probably not. xD

Don't mind me, these are some questions I ask myself sometimes. I still find it amazing that what we know of the Dread Wolf now is very different to how we pictured him to be back then. :P

EDIT: ToP Solas

I definitely would not have bet we'd have the Dread Wolf in the party AND a romance option. I could have maybe guessed there was more going on with the elven backstory, and maybe thought we might run into him at some point. To be honest, I almost thought Flemeth might have been Fen'Harel for a while. Particularly when Morrigan mentions her friends being wolves when she grew up.

But did not see that coming.

Naw, actually he has form, that's how he used to gatecrash the pantheon's glitter parties and scrounge canapes, get free drinks and touch up the serving wenches...

He did seem to comment on the servants a lot.
