i'm still waiting you to deliver an tea soaked egg review. :(

Haha. It is coming. I was out of star anise. Also it takes about 10 hours to let sit around. Sometime this week, though!

I listened to Merrill's tale of Fen'Harel and the courser hound today and I had the random thought: is that why we didn't get a mabari in DAI? I have this image in my head of Solas having banter with the dog and them not getting along xD

The simplest reason I can think of is none of the Inquisitors seem to be Fereldan, they all seem to come from the Free Marches area (I'll have to look that up), which isn't as big on dogs as Fereldan is. Hawke gets one because they technically are Fereldan.

Been hanging around Fenris too much. His reaction to man servant was quite opposite. Like ripping out peoples hearts opposite.

Would have let him do it too. He's my baby <3

I think as compared to Fenris, Solas has been powerful enough not to care, or even rather to welcome flirting with the options available to someone of an apparently lowlier status...

Sadly, it looks like it might have been cut. There's concept art of what appears to be an inquisition mabari. I know they said no more party members... but maybe they can add in another mabari as DLC like the one in DA2 was? Just have it chill out around skyhold and summon it as an extra ability.

I would pay infinite money for a cutscene where you walk in to the rotunda, and Solas is trying to paint, and dog is just running circles around the room barking incessantly.

Aw foofie. I'd love one, but I don't want it to become a trend where if we want a Mabari we have to pay for it. I could see EA doing that. Maybe for future games in, as you say, a similar style to DA2; still a full character, just not a party member.

Yeah, paying for it would be a shame. :[ I also kind of liked the mabari being a more legitimate member of the party, even if you did miss out on some dialogue options. Hopefully glorious dogs will make their return in DA4.

I just had a brainwave and haven't given it a lot of thought so please feel free to burn it if it's wrong, but I've been thinking about the whole "Solas immortal omg!" issue.

Now, as far as I'm aware the elves were always immortal until they began interacting with humans, but the fine details as to why isn't currently known. We also know that Solas has been in Uthenera for a long time and that's how he's survived up until now. I'm wondering if now he's interacting with humans through the Inquisition, he'll begin experiencing the "Quickening"?

I don't know, the whole Solas being immortal thing doesn't really bother me. I was an avid BuffyxSoul!Spike shipper back in the day so relationships with one being immortal doesn't phase me, but I thought it be interesting to talk about. Knowing this thread it probably already has, multiple times, but buggerit!

One of the potential reasons for this was, as you say, the reasons for the loss of immortality have been muddled or lost. The whole 'quickening' thing may just be something else they were mistaken about, fed by rumors and such in the desire to blame humans for the fall of the elves, when it seems like it was more complex than that, and, in some way, at least partly to blame on the elves and/or their pantheon (the mysterious decisions of Fen'Harel also potentially included, given how regretful he is).

Immortality doesn't really bother me either. But as far as Solas/Abelas/Felassan/ect goes, no idea whether they retained their immortality or not. Solas seems to have a one track mind, and survival isn't really on his top list of priorities.

I am skeptical however about what exactly the quickening was. I really doubt humans are the ones responsible. [In the sense that just being around humans would 'infect' elves.] Elves interacted with dwarves for over a thousand years with no consequence. I am guessing that the 'humans cause the quickening' would have been elven propaganda.

Elves have a serious problem with humans: they breed faster, and any elven/human pairing results in a human.

So, lets say I am an elven lord, and I take over a human village. I move my people in. Over time, humans breed and reproduce. Some of my underlings take human wives, husbands or concubines and...more humans. Eventually, it doesn't matter how powerful elves are. Humans overrun any location they are in.

This would be a serious issue for elves if they were trying to control humans. So I feel like the whole 'humans cause the quickening' resulted from elves wanting to discourage cohabitation between the two groups until they could figure out how to deal with the population problems.

No idea what actually caused them to lose immortality.

One of the things I kind of like in hindsight was that as a Dalish Rogue in Inquisition, you get a wolf card representing you. That's my canon Lavellan.....wolf.

Take her with you, Solas! *sob*

I'm out of like, but Mims, I love that you're bringing that up too. It's another political angle, how only elves will produce more elves but a human-elf pairing will look human. Elf blooded people can be treated in all sorts of ways, depending on how they're raised, if they know (Alistair is a key one who doesn't), and other factors.

These bits of discrimination against elf blooded people may have been begun by elves or simply shared among elves and humans and might be why we see them persist.

I definitely think the racism had to start somewhere, and if elves were in power long before humans were...then elves probably either initiated it, or instigated humans into such a level of resentment that they believed enslavement to be acceptable. Not that this makes any of it justifiable- I just get the sense that this has been sort of a cycle that Thedas is moving through as each group rises and falls in power.

Another issue that elves might have- if they're immortal, presumably they aren't breeding regularly. Otherwise we'd be swimming in elves. So imagine if the average elf lives a couple thousand years...but maybe only has a kid every hundred or so years. Then you have humans, who are having kids at a very regular, reliable rate. An average human is ready to work, fight, and breed again at around eighteen years old.

Every time a human reaches 'adulthood', you also have a steady flow of humans retiring or no longer being able to compete with those in their prime. If elves are immortal, they are always in their prime. It would be very hard for new blood and new ideas to gain hold. Elves have the benefit of immense knowledge and specialized skills, but they're never going to be able to replace people at the same rate that humans would be growing and learning. New ideas probably take forever to take hold, because the 'old' generation is still very much active.

Elves did eventually 'check out' with Uthenera...but you basically had to wait for an elf just to get so fed up with life he's like: "Alright I'm taking a nap for a while. Wake me up when my kids don't disappoint me." That's not reliable at all.

I don't know where I am getting with this, its just my random speculating. But this sort of stuff fascinates me.

Also, speaking of elf blooded people, I'm still reading The Masked Empire and I think Michel has begun to do it for me a little. I find myself making sure to greet him at Skyhold, even though he says the same thing.

Plus there's also the fact that taking physical form following uthenera may do that to him anyway? Flemeth despite harbouring Mythal's wisp ages, maybe Solas knows he is too, one of the reasons why he is in such a hurry?

Oh, and I shipped Spuffy too, even have a T-shirt... So welcome...

At night, Stevhen dreams he could do just that... Aaaaah, sweet sweet Uthenera, blissful state of ignorance and happy Fading.

Modesty flap. Ha!

He needed it. None of us would be able to get anything done otherwise.
