Ruadan is an Alamarri Avvar mage. Along with warriors of Ruadan's clan, he settled in caves beneath the future location ofVigil's Keep.

 

Sometime later he chased Kaelah, his fellow tribeswoman, further into the caves, reaching the Deep Roads. As Kaelah prayed to Korth, dwarves appeared and saved her, which she took as a gift from the Mountain-Father. Ruadan was forced to escape.

 

He got stuck somewhere in the Deep Roads, and the darkness made him crazy, but also powerful. He gained powers to control other people, and used it to turn the Avvar warriors against their own tribesmen. It is possible he became a blood mage and this is how he influenced the warriors to do his bidding.

Some unknown time later Kiveal, an Avvar, reached the dwarves to ask them for help. With their assistance they bound Ruadan in the Deep Roads.

• Most likely the Dark Theurge from The Wraith's Vengeance quest was once Ruadan.

• It is possible that the Dark Theurge still lives.

- Have a close relationship with the dwarves, and engage in regular trade with Orzammar. Believe that the Mountain Father created the dwarves. 

- Gods are capricious and demand to be appeased. Everything wrong that happens is generally taken to be because they have angered a god, not bad luck.

- Lady of the Skies once rescued an avvarian tribe by summoning giant eagles to carry them to safety. [Interesting connection- this is similar to what Morrigan claims Flemeth did to rescue the Warden.] 

- Bury their dead by hacking them into pieces and allowing the birds to eat them. 

- Hakkon is the lord of winter, and the avvar invoke his name in battle. According to legend he provides resistance to the cold, which allows them to have an advantage on lowlanders.

- Sigfrost is a giant bear who imparts knowledge to those who try to learn from him. Interestingly, several circle magi claim to have seen him in the fade.

- Imhar the Clever is a trickster god, also similar to Loki.

- They appear to have a rite to separate spirits from their human hosts. [Would this be an issue for Cole?]

- Shamans are powerful mages, similar to Dalish Keepers.

 

Interesting codex story:

 

...with our warriors, unmatched in skill and strength. And here we settled, in the caves carved by the hand of Korth the Mountain-Father...

Ruadan, shaman of the people, turned from the gods who had ever sheltered him. In his grief, he destroyed the gifts of the Mountain-Father and brought us low.

 

...and Ruadan pursued her. She fled into the earth and prayed to Korth to preserve her. He sent deliverance. They called themselves the dwarves, and they protected Kaelah.

 

The darkness drove him to madness but also gave him power. He turned our warriors against us. Kiveal sought out the dwarves, and together they bound Ruadan in this place.

Alright...I managed to 'adult' enough that I've stayed away from stalking/commenting in this thread for several weeks.  However....I can no longer adult(and let's be honest, it was more sanity saving than anything, the silence on DLC was agonizing).  This was the first place I came when I saw the twitter post.  Everyone here has so much aggregated insight between twitter postings and whatnot...

 

I will happily unadult for the next few days/however much time until this DLC actually releases.  And I'm so glad I'm playing Awakening right now.

One thing about this analysis: we've been told that the Morrighan'nan in this poem does not refer to our Morrigan. It might still be important as a tip-off toward Flemeth/Mythal's involvement with the Avaar, but we can likely discount this mention otherwise.

Left unspoken: the 'I want to know more about one specific character AND get some sort of closure, hopefully peaceful or happy for him and their poor, heartbroken Lavellans' camp of despair.

I really enjoy that they are. It mirrors real-world religious mythologies that way, where they all kind of devour parts of each other.

That was on purpose.  He was pretty up front with the speculations on Tyrrda - a lot of people assumed the "leaf eared lover" was Solas. They came down and said 'no' it's clearly a woman.  Morrigan is just Morrigan - i mean Flemeth makes her more - but the only reason Gaider picked the name was because he saw it in some celtic mythology book and liked it.

Confirming that Morrigan and Morrighan'nan were accidentally named very similar. There's no hidden connection between the two characters in any significant way. Flemythal would be the person to focus on in terms of connections to Tyrdda's story.

Seems possible! Either the avvar just adapted their own form of creator worship, or perhaps the elven gods directly influenced their tribes for whatever reason. 

 

Or it could be mostly coincidence. We shall have to find out! It seems like, judging by the achievements, we'll be proving something false. Maybe another 'god' appears?

 

Also curious if it has anything to do with Skyhold.

Hold your breath guys, I highly doubt that this answers that question. As Cassandra (I believe it's her) and Cole (his hat) are in the party. So the dlc will probably be unlocked once you get skyhold or haven. Obviously Solas leaves the party at the end.

From what I remember on his Tumblr, he said the name came from a character he was fond of in a tabletop game of some sort. He never found out why or where the character's name came from beyond that.
