She likely approved it. Signs say a lot of the other elven gods were getting out of control. Likely she gave him extra power or the ability to stand up against the pantheon (or at least that's my theory, it explains the orb and the fact that Solas never seems to be 100% sure what the orb does). When the others of the elven pantheon found out she was helping Fen'Harel they had Mythal killed, hence her betrayal. At least that's my theory anyway.

I think Mythal was helping him. In the legends we do have, she is usually the one who steps in when the other gods go too far. It might even have been why she was murdered.

It works well, with the June/Sandal Sera/Andruil thing, as much as I really don't want Sera to be an ancient god,I like it for Sandal. I think Sera knowing who Ghilain'nein is, could be another hint, or it could just be the devs acknowledging the theory and taking the mick, or maybe she just looked at the pictures at the temple of Mythal and I'm being an idiot.     If the forgotten ones are the old gods they are going to need to add a few more soon to get the numbers even.

Well you're basically off to recover the body of the last Inquisitor who died 800 years ago about the time of the second blight. There are two Avaar tribes in the area one is friendly and the only is trying to summon their god Hakkon again, the last time the Avaar did this was 800 years ago and the former inquisitor was sent to stop it by emperor Drakon who was fighting another God Dragon in the Anderfells. The last Inquisitor couldn't beat it, instead freezing it in time, after doing various quests you eventually stumble upon him, defeat the Avaar trying to waken Hakkon and speak to him, it turns out the last inquisitor was Dalish as well as Andrastian (he is the guy from the promo with Dirthamen's vallaslin). He's pretty disappointed when if you tell him Drakon's son destroyed the Dales, and says he was good pals with the emperor, before he dies and Hakkon wakes up. Then you go kill Hakkon.

 

I thought that basically up until this part of the story the dlc was pretty boring, but I doubt my description done the ending justice  .

Okay, so I finished it.  Spoilerssss...

This DLC seemed to focus a lot on the Inquisitor and what it means to assume that role and be forgotten underneath the legend...which you can take as foreshadowing if you are so inclined (which I am).  

 

The last Inquisitor, Ameriden, turns out to be an elf (shocker!) who was keeping Hakkon, in dragon form, at bay by freezing them both in time.  There's this very poignant moment after you tell him that his lover died trying to find him & how the elves in the Dales were betrayed, and he starts lamenting about being burdened with the role of Inquisitor.  He says something along the lines of "Cherish every moment of happiness you can get, Inquisitor...the world will be quick enough to take them away."  And you can follow up with an "I feel that way, too" kinda line - which of course is the line I chose, since I like my Quizzie being angsty and melodramatic.

 

Also, Scout Harding has a dialogue immediately after you defeat Hakkon where she laments how so much of who Ameriden was ended up being erased from history (that he was an elf, that he died protecting everyone, the fact that his lover was a mage AND an elf), and that the the more people start thinking of the current Inquisitor as 'more than a person' that she/he starts becoming 'less than a person'.  The moment is pretty sad and ominous, and paired with Ameriden's speech from before I think it might be throwing a thread out there that might be picked up in later DLCs. 

 

It would have been nice to hear a romance-specific comment after being addressed by Ameriden specifically, but alas, nothing...though Solas did in fact speak to him regarding the elves.  Hell, it seemed an appropriate time for all of the love interests to chirp in with a comment, but...?

 

The parallels between Fen'Harel and the Inquisitor, though, are obvious.  Both are figures who become/became distorted over time and adjusted to suit the needs of the storyteller.  Very good DLC all in all; I ain't mad at the price.

They left enough hints that I want something to be special about Sera, but making her an elven God is just too much. Sandal was always more of a joke character, so I doubt it for him too. Her knowing who Ghilanain (however you spell it) is seems a little out of character, but maybe the writer momentarily forgot who they were writing and thought "Hey, she's an elf, she'd know".

How many names do we have now, anyway? 2? 3? They are "Forgotten", their names effaced by the ellven pantheon, so the Old Gods would represent them as they reinvented themselves.

The codex itself was also curious, but mostly dat timing tho.

The runner strode the winding road,

'Pon the bastion of the huntsmen true

To make her desperate plea.

 

Ameridan in dragon's hide,

Haron clad in blessed steel,

Came forth to hear the tidings brought

With so much breathless zeal.

 

"Upon the lonely moors," the runner cried

"A loathsome beast now dwells.

As day gives way to night, it strikes.

All in its path, it fells."

 

Three sould bravely led them out

The dark'ning moor to see

As sun slipped 'neath the sighing heath

The hunters' guides did flee.

 

The moon crept o'er the heather

As a terrible cry released

In silvered light the hunters saw

The arrival of the beast.

 

Favored like a wolf it was,

In size like Woodsman's Death.

Within its eyes burned eldritch fire,

The Fade in every breath.

 

Swift as thought, the hunters struck.

The demon wolf fell back,

But mortal strength alone could not

Prevent the beast's attack.

 

With one huge paw, the monstrous thing

Struck Ameridan the Brave.

Across the moor he flew, and fell

Into a watery grave.

 

Jaws like a dragon's clamped down tight

Round Haron's armored chest,

And with the knight it sped away

From moonlight, to the west.

 

No living eye was there to see

From peaty swamp arise

Ameridan, who found himself

Alone, 'neath darkened skies.

 

The shattered shield of Haron

He found upon the moor.

In grief Meridan did his vengeance swear:

The beast's head he would procure.

 

Whilst the wolf across the moor

Bore Haron to its lair,

A labyrinth of winding cave

Any mortal should beware.

 

By worm-light in the twisting cave

Haron bravely fought

To free himself from death's own jaws

Before his life was naught.

 

With blade-arm free, the knight struck true

Into the monster's eye,

And it fled into the dark

With otherworldly cry.

 

The wounded knight in darkness

Found within the cavern's gloom

An idol carved of Fade-touched stone,

Which could prove the monster's doom.

 

Ameridan all alone did seek

The demon-wolf's fresh trail,

And to the cave he came prepared

A wolf's heart to impale.

 

Down the winding cave, he sought

The beast that slew his friend

And in the eerie worm-light

Met the beast at cavern's end.

 

With burning blade, Ameridan

I played post-game, so no Solas with me this time. There was no mention of Solas, directly or indirectly, by any of my companions or by my Lavellan herself (who romanced him, of course, this is the "Veilfire Bones" Lavellan). However, there was a pleasing number of references to having beaten Cory, if mostly by Scout Harding. The game seemed quite aware of where we were in the plot, as it were. I mostly wanted to see if there were any comments about looking for him or etc, and sadly no. Though Alleyana was mentally squinting at the parallels between herself and her predecessor. Those elven Dreamer mages who end up split apart from their Inquisitors, man. (I don't know if this is the point in the story I'll have it happen in VB, but she was squinting anyway during this play-through.)

I don't actually think this is Fen'Harel. I think it's a possessed wolf. The poem says that it took both warriors killing the beast/destroying the wards simultaneously.

If I recall correctly, both come from the Alamarii along with another tribe called the Clayne. The Avvar were driven into the Frostbacks. The Chasind, into the southern wilderness and swamps. The Clayne and the remaining Alamarii inhabited the Ferelden valley and became the ancestors of the current Fereldens.

Also the Chasind are known to be fairly peaceful while the Avvar are...not.
