What the heck are you supposed to do with those levers scattered trough the map?

I press them and Egg keeps saying "we need to try something else", but doesn't give any clue, nor have I found any clue anywhere?
hold position doesn't work cause they are too far apart. 

This woman Colette is supposed to be inside the ruin waiting for me but I can't access it...

Anybody knows? Or am I being stupid and missed something obvious? lol

He does say occasional things or make some comments, and there is a moment where you can ask him (or Cole) to address a situation. But nothing very relevant, I'm sure every character has some of those comments. Dunno about the last part since I haven't finished yet, but doubt it anyway

Okay, so I finished it.  Spoilerssss...

This DLC seemed to focus a lot on the Inquisitor and what it means to assume that role and be forgotten underneath the legend...which you can take as foreshadowing if you are so inclined (which I am).  

 

The last Inquisitor, Ameriden, turns out to be an elf (shocker!) who was keeping Hakkon, in dragon form, at bay by freezing them both in time.  There's this very poignant moment after you tell him that his lover died trying to find him & how the elves in the Dales were betrayed, and he starts lamenting about being burdened with the role of Inquisitor.  He says something along the lines of "Cherish every moment of happiness you can get, Inquisitor...the world will be quick enough to take them away."  And you can follow up with an "I feel that way, too" kinda line - which of course is the line I chose, since I like my Quizzie being angsty and melodramatic.

 

Also, Scout Harding has a dialogue immediately after you defeat Hakkon where she laments how so much of who Ameriden was ended up being erased from history (that he was an elf, that he died protecting everyone, the fact that his lover was a mage AND an elf), and that the the more people start thinking of the current Inquisitor as 'more than a person' that she/he starts becoming 'less than a person'.  The moment is pretty sad and ominous, and paired with Ameriden's speech from before I think it might be throwing a thread out there that might be picked up in later DLCs. 

 

It would have been nice to hear a romance-specific comment after being addressed by Ameriden specifically, but alas, nothing...though Solas did in fact speak to him regarding the elves.  Hell, it seemed an appropriate time for all of the love interests to chirp in with a comment, but...?

 

The parallels between Fen'Harel and the Inquisitor, though, are obvious.  Both are figures who become/became distorted over time and adjusted to suit the needs of the storyteller.  Very good DLC all in all; I ain't mad at the price.

Quick no-spoilers impression of the DLC so far (I'm only a few hours in):

 

The Avvar are awesome, and their lore is fascinating.  Seriously, why couldn't we have these guys instead of pussyfooting about with the Orlesians?  Also, bring Solas and Cole along.  They have some interesting things to say.

Their Master of the Hunt cracked me up.  Watching this huge shirtless Avvar get into a pissing match with my tiny little Lavellan?  Pleasantly reminded of the krogan headbutting each other

Well, they pretty much promised the Orlesians with all the references in previous games.

When they got to this DLC, I think they realized this would be their last chance to explore the Avvar at all (Assuming they're moving the setting north in DA4) since they only inhabit the Frostbacks (And evidently some made it to the southern Vimmarks) So they had to do it right.

I think that Avvar had a dog... But I can't remember whether it was a general Avvar practice.

Non spoiler review:

Pros:

- Spent a lot of time in it

- Enemies are beefy

- Incidental companion dialogue

- Lots of lore building for the Avvar and some others

- Lots of Scout Harding 

- Story is fun, but not too indepth. 

- Beautiful landscape

 

Cons:

- Nothing revolutionary. It is basically like a missing map from the game. With maybe more substantial of a questline. 

- Enemies respawn fast, occasionally gets tedious running around.

 

Overall, I'd say it was worth it if you enjoy playing DA:I and you want some added hours to the game. If all you want is Solas resolution or a strong narrative, you might not be satisfied. I'd like to see more cutscenes in the future, but otherwise it was good fun.

End-of-DLC boss fight spoilers!

Do you mean the final guy indoors, with the four mages and two big bruisers? I did him on Nightmare, second hardest fight I've had in DAI (the first hardest for me was that very first Pride demon on Nightmare, as a warrior, before the game lets you re-spec or get better gear or anything, but I'm tangenting).

 

The way I did it was I dropped down off the ledge thing with full supplies (there's a cache right before), immediately put my companions -- all ranged -- on Hold. The bruisers ran at me and I aggrod them with the aoe warrior taunt, and then I did my damndest to keep the entire fight squished up against that ledge. Once they were dead I let cooldowns reset and then took everyone off hold and trotted forward. Four mages, bam bam bam bam, then the Big Jerk.

 

On him, I realized he spawns adds constantly, and I don't think there's much that can be done about it. Focus fire him, and have companions res each other every time one goes down. When you run out of healing potions, there's a cache up against the center pillar and you can hit it during combat.

 

There's probably a neater, cleaner, more elegant way to do it, but that's how I did it and it worked for me. I dunno how tanky KE is compared to 1h/board Champion warrior, but hell with it, Big Jerk refused to stick to me anyway and kept chasing my poor companions. My method may go even smoother for you since I bet your Inquisitor puts out a lot more damage than tankyface Alleyana does.

So...there are a lot of cute Avvar.  Like, a LOT.  All I'm saying is that Solas is lucky I'm playing this from a savegame before the Temple of Mythal 

 

Also, quick question for those of you who've completed the quest with the Avvar hold:

Can you still get the friendship of the Avvar if you give the offering to Finn instead of the huntmaster?  It's what my quizzy would do since she feels bad for the poor kid, but I noticed I don't get any approval for the quest going that route.

It's not what I'd have preferred, since it doesn't seem to be heavy on story and companion interaction, but I am pleasantly surprised anyway. It's a good holdover until the SUPER MASSIVE STORY DLC WITH LOTS OF COMPANION DIALOGUE AND STORY STUFF comes out, right BioWare? We are getting that too, right? Good.

Yeah I know I'm late to the "draw your Lavellan"-partyu, but us PS4-folks has to keep ourselves busy somehow while waiting for the DLC.

I have spent literally all of my waking hours today playing the DLC and I'm still not done.    I'll wait until I've finished the main quest to really decide my feelings on it, but so far it has been worth the money. It's not what I'd have preferred, since it doesn't seem to be heavy on story and companion interaction, but I am pleasantly surprised anyway. I like traipsing about and getting distracted by shinies.  I like story and companion stuff better, but this is just fine by me  And the Avvar lore is fascinating.

 

Also, as someone whose Lavellan was all "OMG I AM NOT THE HERALD SHUT UP":

I love the Avvar religion.  It's refreshingly practical, and forms a nice foil to all the creepy ancient elf stuff, and the pure faith required by Andrastianism.  My Lavellan's got a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to praying after all the Herald malarkey, but she was happy to join the Avvar's religious rites.  Between Cole, Solas, and the Anchor, she's pretty chill with spirits now

I've barely scratched the surface of this DLC. Turned out I was busy until much later than expected. But at least it made me laugh out loud a few times before handing my ass to me fighting everything at such high levels.

You were all so right.

 

Solas, Dorian, and Cass have been my go-to team for the harder fights so far.  Enemies in this area seem to go for the zerg swarm strategy.  So Pull of the Abyss + 2x Fire Mine has been working pretty well thus far.  My archer Lavellan picks off lone guys.
