F-first post.  I've been lurking for a little while but afraid to post and then yesterday happened so there's nothing to be afraid of, right?  So hello!  <3

I wasn't really all that excited about DA:I until I saw Solas's interview but I've been making grabby hands ever since.  I'm entirely too excited to drag him everywhere in the game and hear everything he has to say about everything.

This is a terrible first post.  I am so sorry.  But uh... hello!

Hello!

Welcome to our little village! Glad the happenings of yesterday have given you the courage to post here. Always love to hear the stories from others, where they come from, and their theories concerning DA:I.

Sooo I've been lurking in this thread for some time and finally decided to post a bit and say hi. Also saying that you all are amazing and it's been encouraging seeing people talk and share stories about themselves without other people bashing them or the thread turning sour. So you all rock!

Looking forward to that interview and here's hoping that Solas will be a LI!! I've got a character already in mind that I want to be my first play through, a Qunari rogue, and it would be amazing if he was available.

And hello to you too!

Welcome to the little Solas thread village. AND YASSSSSSSS. I'm really excited for qunari and rogue is my favorite class so yaaasssss! All the high fives!

From the PC Gamer UK article:

Solas
“Solas is knowledgable, logical,” explains Laidlaw. “He refuses to believe in bad and good... which makes him absolutely fascinating as a character.”

To be fair, Iron Bull is the "fun" character. He's the one that'll probably get a lot of laughs so I can see why writing that type of character would gain them your favor and cause you to talk about them with a lot more passion. We also have much more information about Iron Bull's background than most of the other characters so Weekes was able to talk about him. They revealed a lot about him, now that I think about it.

Not only is Iron Bull the fun character, I think he is also pretty straight forward as a character. I think what you see is what you get.  I don't think there will be too many hidden secrets. I don't mean that he lacks depth or won't change, just that his stuff will be surrounding the Qun and the perspective he brings to that. He admits he is a spy and there have been hints of Post Traumatic Stress which is likely part of his character arc.

Solas strikes me as less straight forward. I don't think what we see is what we get judging from the across the board descriptions we have of him. Self taught, neither good nor bad, fade expert who is humble and private but also 'Nails' and 'badass' and scotch bonnet candy. They have been very elusive on his background and even the simple hedge mage business is more than it seems. In a nut shell, talking about Solas is more....complicated!

I imagine that discussions will be different once the game is out and everyone can talk freely.

I listened and wrote down the Solas part of the interview.
It may be slightly inaccurate but I tried my hardest to copy exactly what they were saying. :D

EDIT: Spoiler tagged because of size.

Guys, I can picture the first time we see Solas in-game in a video before the release date.

The Inquisitor is deciding their party and chooses to bring Solas along. Then we have a view of all the party members coming around the corner and the last one left to arrive is Solas. But who rounds the corner other than.....

Vivienne.

She's like "it's alright, I know you made a mistake when you said Solas. My company is much more important and appreciated." And Inquisitor's like "you're right, what was I thinking? Let's go, Vivienne!"

And thus, Solas is never seen in action.

You can only see Solas if you believe in the complexity of man.

I must be the Bog Unicorn then, because I've been nicknamed "moody" on several occasions. If I'm Mad-Eye Moody or literally moody was not specified. The latter, I think. A nickname so graciously given to me by my mother and grandmother.

Families give such lovely nicknames don't they?  When I was very little I was known as "Ratbag" by my family...

Um... So.... Hi? Just started using my Origins account so I could post things and stuff... Have mostly been lurking (i.e. reading this entire thread from page 1...) and quietly loving Solas from behind my monitor screen. And I have to say, you guys are my kind of people. :D

Heh, wow, some of those nicknames! Poor souls... :D

Mine was "Zippity". For two reasons:

1 ) During my childhood, an outrageously racist Disney movie called "Song of the South" was popular and the hit song from it (which is just a happy song and, fortunately, doesn't have any racial undertones that I can hear) was "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah". Apparently, I adored this song and would sing it all the time. And, naturally, "Zip-A-Dee" sounds a lot like "Zippity".

2 ) My first name is Tiffany and, when I was really young, I had trouble saying it. It would come out "Zippity". I was also very strong-headed and wanted to do things myself, not have them done for me, so my catchphrase was apparently "Let Zippity do it!" I would say that in protest whenever an adult was trying to help me with something. LOL

I have an uncle to this day who still calls me Zippity and still references that toddler motto of mine. Dad, too. I actually sign my family emails as ~ Zippity.

Speaking of nicknames, I'm interested to see if Varric doles those out again and, if so, what Solas will get stuck with. Have seen a few folks here use "Sleepy", which is pretty funny, and "Baldy", which is... probably not as humorous. :P

That cute!

I hope it's Sleepy, I want Varric and Solas to get on well.  I also want a party consisting of Varric, Solas and Cole...which is a problem for me because I don't play warriors *sigh*
