How does one have a relationship with a Pantheon?!
I hate bittersweet reunions T_T

But truth to tell we know very little of his track record... We are lacking essential info at every turn so it's rather difficult to say.
We don't, but Solas implies as much. In the AU he laments:
Solas: You would think with such intelligence, I wouldn't make such terrible mistakes.
I think mistake is a "wrong" word. I firmly believe he made the best decision he thought he could at the time. If he explained them to me, I would probably say "i guess I see why you did this" but at the same time - and he admits this - he is blinded by his own intelligence sometimes which gets him into trouble. In certain situations, he's like 'well i know way mroe than you so my decision is the right one.' I'm not saying it's "wrong" but it probably wasn't the best answer to the problem.

I agree! I mean, this is essentially what Cole says. Solas did what he could. I think its easy to look back at what happened and see a failure, but...he doesn't know what would have happened if he hadn't of acted. Lets say a couple billion elves have died in various wars and slavery. That's awful. But for all we know, it could have been twice that under the rule of the elven gods. Thedas itself would be a completely different place.
If we include the blight in all of this, then Thedas might not have even survived 500 more years under their rule.

According to PW - the romance was nothing more than a way for the player to connect with Solas better. He was worried Solas would come off as too much of a villain. With the romance, you see that he really cares for these people. He cares for the Inquisitor and now his friendships with the companions are seen as sincere. That's all it was supposed to do.
And this, plus other reasons, is why I don't quite see how this could possibly end in any other way than something sad. But I'm willing to be surprised. At this point, given how much hurt, regret, and loneliness he holds within, my hope is mostly for Solas finding some genuine peace with himself in some way.

Haven't read today's remarks on the DLC, I promise I'll scroll back. But for people thinking about making the decision to spend $15 bucks on this, I don't feel any regret. I played 4 hours last night, with at least that many more to play and it really is a seamless experience from the main story. Obviously no huge story moving elements, but it tucks right it and I'm loving it as much as I loved the main story.
I will admit to wishing for more Solas...but that's why I live in the Solas thread ![]()

We were talking about this last night. I too was blinded by team optimism's cry at one point, but I think - as I've distanced myself from the acute Solas feels - that I just don't see this going all fluffy. I think he'll get a good ending. A bittersweet one though and not happy for Solavellan. I think it'll be right though. In the end. He won't be alone and you'll be there. And Cass(OMG THOSE TWO). I think that's all he'd really want. He'll get to change his story too. Get to be remembered as a person whose life and choices meant something. Remembered for the good and bad but, most importantly, remembered as a person and not as a monster/boogeyman. This...for me...is his best ending. *weeps for 1000 years for Solas*

I think we can agree he's a very harsh critic and even harsher on himself...

I'm pretty easy to please. I can see it ending happily or sadly for Solas. My only request is that he doesn't feel as though he's failed, and they don't corrupt him or do something to make a dramatic personality change just so it is easier for us to oppose him.
I don't think death is as certain an outcome as some might think...at least not yet. We do need a couple of 'strong' characters as allies for whatever future conflict the DA series is leading towards. Although its very possible the Inquisitor will essentially become Fen'Harel 2.0 and fill that role themselves.

I'm fairly certain Solas and Lavellan aren't getting a happy ending. I get the sense that the developers have big plans for Solas in the series future and the romance was really added at the last minute during that delay. Since the Inquisitor's not going to be the PC in the next game, I don't see it ending well.
We'll get a resolution though, something sweet, bittersweet, but sweet to tie off that story thread.
Doesn't Solas end the relationship before the end of Inquisition anyway?

I would ask that Solas be treated in a manner akin to Flemeth or Morrigan with whom he has much in common.

The relationship is "over", but it is clear both of them still have a lot of feelings. So whether its actually over is probably a matter of what your Lavellan feels. Solas still feels strongly.

Do you think the Inquisitor will get a chance to join Solas in whatever his master plan is?
It depends on what his plan is. My Lavellan would like to know so she could make up her own mind, rather than getting dumped for her own good (little bitter here. First Sera rejects my elfyness then Solas dumps me).

He does, but there are things left hanging and the Inquisitor doesn't know why he broke up with her. His plans seemingly change at the last moment after the orb breaks, as there were some indications he might have been planning to return (the suggestions that "all will be made clear" and the unfinished painting among them).

I am guessing this is the route they'll take. I could even see Solas and Morrigan working together in the right circumstances.
Being a recurring character in the franchise doesn't mean they'll end the romance between him and Lavellan. It just doesn't guarantee that he won't anhero at some point.

See I think this is where he gets his ending. This game - and the last one - has all been about how your story gets twisted and how it's important that you have a hand in directing that story. It's never more apparent than it was with Solas. I think his redemption is going to come in the way of it being like 'Hi, I'm Fen'Harel and I'm not a bad guy' and the world will see and it will be good. I also am kind of wondering what you do with him beyond him popping up Flemeth style thus becoming a tired and overused character. At least for me, the maximum feels and gut punch would be his ending here.

I want this so much. Particularly for the irony of my muggle!Lavellan filling a god's shoes after spending 100+ hours insisting she's not special or divinely chosen
I like apotheosis stories, whether literal or figurative, and all the problems that come with them. And of the three Dragon Age PCs, the Inquisitor is very well suited to apotheosis.

I think, given where you've posted this, that we can all agree on that. Especially given how these games have a new PC, any chance for a Lavellan to have a chance for any sort of true resolution has to be DLC.
