Ooh, very cool. I did not know they had more of them!
The Halamshiral is brutal. Because in my heart, I know there's no way my Lavellan would manage to pull that off without getting the boot. I compensate by at least having low approval and keeping Celene on the throne alone.

I headcanon that Viv and Josie gave Lavellan non-stop lectures before the Ball about not taking her shoes off, being polite to nobles, not being too Dalish, not being too magey, not talking about how the Dales belonged to her people... (and canon supports this. If you have Viv and are too blunt when you meet Celene then she Greatly Disapproves).
Velanna was fine. Grumpy, but fine.
And Merrill...I think I'm willing to cut Merrill a great deal more slack because she reminds me so much of what I was like when I was younger, and thought I knew everything there was to know about the worldIt's harder to dislike a character who shares so many of your own faults.
Merrill was cognizant of her own limits, she was simply willing to take risks that meant a possibility for a better future for her people; as Briala proved, the Eluvians can be useful to help the Elvhen.
Like Solas, she wanted a better future for the People. Given that Merrill took in the elves who were left homeless because of the war and she is now acting as their leader, I'd argue that she still does.

I wonder what would happen were Merrill and Solas ever to meet.
Ummmm, I did a very NSFW Solavellan animation, but I'm not sure if I can/should post a link on here? It's terrible, though :3 I'm terrible.
Post a link in a spolier tag and mark it as NSFW.
Merrill was proven right about the eluvians, but her naive waif thing still is annoying as hell. Honestly if my Lavellan has to kill Solas in order to preserve and save Thedas (assuming he would release the old gods, and that by doing so, that it would for sure threaten and destroy Thedas as we know), she'd do it. She knows the well-being of the person she loves should never overcome the well-being of million others.
She'll be completely heart-broken and destroyed after that, though. She'll never be the same, either that or getting killed by Solas, she'd be as good as dead. But at least, she'd still have saved Thedas from him and his mistakes, once again. Though, the cost would be way too high for her sake and sanity.
Whoa. You're a bad, bad girl.I just don't want to get in trouble or cause the thread to get shut down or anything.

8D ............ I uh looked at some NSFW porn gifs tbh

it's all solas' fault, his smoothness and passion have destroyed me!
I don't find anything cute or charming about a child in a woman's body. It's rather sad, actually. I don't hate Sera, but I wish Bioware would stop using that trope for female elves.
I think I already covered that I don't play Lavellan as a naif, either. Probably has to do with being a little older myself. Teenage hero saving the world doesn't make a lot of sense hence doesn't appeal.
I actually found Sera to be rather refreshing - her attitudes toward elves - "why do I have to be what you say I have to be? I am me." I really liked that. Also her attitude toward fun - about the people needing to see you as a person and not someone all serious - about pranks as a stress reliever. I really liked that. I think Sera has a lot of down-to-earth truths that are really refreshing. She doesn't always express them in the best way, possibly because of how she's been hurt by the views she's against. She lashes out as defense. At least that's how I see it.

I wonder what would happen were Merrill and Solas ever to meet.
I think it could be very interesting. Merrill and Solas don't view blood magic as evil, they view spirits as more complex than simple good and evil, they acknowledge that spirits can be dangerous (but Solas has more intimate knowledge about their nature when they aren't in contact with humans or elves from Thedas), and they want to help the People. There are a number of differences, but given that Merrill isn't the same person she was when she met Hawke over a decade ago, and is now acting as a de facto Keeper for elves who have no one else to turn to, I think it could be very intriguing. A Dalish elf who took in Andrastian elves would certainly give Solas pause to realize there are other compassionate Dalish who care about all elves, and that it isn't simply a trait unique to the elven Inquisitor.
It's just speculation for discussion's sake, which a lot of people find enjoyable or interesting. So long as we remember to state "this is just speculation/hypothetical" I don't see the problem.. theorycrafting is common in the DA fanbase and the devs leave lore hints and clues everywhere in the games to encourage just that. For me it's a nice change from "here's some fanart" and "come back to me my egg", too.. nothing wrong with either of those things (Solas fanworks are awesome and I consume them, and I'd love resolution to the Solavellan arc), just nice to mix it up. It's on-topic, too.
The fact that we know next to nothing about his plans is important to remember too though - I don't understand viewpoints like "I'd join and help him I'm not worried at all" [unless it's in a 'my Lavellan would do xyz' kind of way, that's RP so I get that] for the simple fact that we have no idea what it is he's trying to achieve, and it could easily be awesome OR awful, and we should bear that in mind.
All my Lavellan's are likely to support Solas if it is for the good of the elves, I find it impossible to RP a dalish elf that would oppose actions that would help the elven people. They might have been drafted in to the Inquisition, which is fine because the world is it immediate peril, but their loyalty is with the elves first and foremost... I want that to be something my Lavellan's can voice and act upon.
i don't know ... i'm still pretty confident i'd go along with allllmost any plan he has
depends on how many lives could be lost or the longterm effects it has
IF i have to stop him from going through with heinous plans and theres a battle ... it's going to be 100% my inquisitor is going to let him kill her. NOPE. not fighting Solas. gimme a game over. going to be so sad. write a fan fiction. move on from dragon age
edit: that actually sounds like an awesome ending. dramatic, but something that could move people. i kinda like it actually ...
but could my inquisitor throw everything away for him? hmmmm
I will be hugely disappointed if that turns out to be the outome with Solas...I'll be gutted if there are no meaningful choices to avoid such an end.
I'll also be disappointed if his plans are really obviously 'bad', because it would not really fit with the character we know from the game. Okay, after the epilogue we know that he's made some pretty big mistakes, but we don't know the circumstances surrounding these calamities so I'm cautious about viewing him as a guy who is incapable of making the right call, need more info.
Edit:
top?! don't really have any good pics...

There's a lot I like about Sera, but RPing as a very elf Dalish mage made it hard for Lavellan to like her. And a lot of her attitude towards elves seems to come from self loathing internal racism. She may say she's 'for the people' but she actually disapproves of helping elves and forming the Inquisition as an elf (she doesn't give disapproval if the player is a dwarf or a qunari and uses that during the forming of the Inquisition.) But there's no denying that Sera is a character that gets people talking and debating, and that's a good thing.
i dream of merrill coming to skyhold and telling dramatized and horrifically inaccurate stories about the dread wolf while solas sits there making that scrunchy face
"and lo did the dread wolf Fen'Harel descend upon the unwary hamlet under the cloak of night! Despoiling their maiden daughters, burning down shrines, absconding with their children!"
"..."
"Until the people prayed to our lord and savior June to deliver them from his vile wickedness! Thus were the people bestowed with the knowledge of <sabotage> and were taught to throw their wooden shoes whenever the beast appeared. And that is why to this day the Dalish go bare feet, to honor our ancestor's who bravely shooed away the dread wolf"
"..."

I'm happy for all of you who are making good life decisions and not compromising your morals for the sake of a love interest
that said, my inquisitor never signed on to be andraste's blessed paragon of goodness, she just sort of fell ass backwards out of a hole and was carried along on cassandra's coat tails.
The elves have been in mortal peril for centuries, but as soon as human faith is threatened all of a sudden all these resources open up and suddenly no obstacle is insurmountable. as long as it's to restore the status quo.
so yeah i put in my time being good, i'm ready for the crazy train. besides the meta knowledge that no matter what "bad" decisions i make the devs can't afford the resources to make the world states diverge too much so there is a very definite cap on how much real damage i can do. solavellan 5ever.

You can be all that and still be a mature person. I don't hate her, as I said, but that's also not someone I want around and I hope we get a female elf companion who's a little more grounded next time. Her fifth grade humor was funny for about ten minutes.I actually found Sera to be rather refreshing - her attitudes toward elves - "why do I have to be what you say I have to be? I am me." Merrill was proven right about the eluvians, but her naive waif thing still is annoying as hell. I know I'm supposed to think "oh, isn't she adorable," but I just want to smack her.
I doubt that she's naive about shemlen culture after a decade since she's left her clan; the fact that she's taking care of other elves in what appears to be a leadership position would suggest that she could be quite different from the young woman we met at Sundermount. What I find appealing about Merrill is that she wanted to help her people, and her dry humor aside, she was intelligent enough to adeptly use magic and built her own Eluvian from a single shard. Honestly, Inquisition skips over any culture shock for the elven Inquisitor, and even whitewashes a lot of the cultural and religious perspective of the character. We really don't have another Dalish character to confide in; we're in a sea of Andrastians who never really understand us, and arguably most of them never even try to.
Unfortunately, it feels disappointing at times, because the few times our culture is brought up tends to be incredible negativity towards it - Minaeve, Iron Bull (about the mercenary Dalish), Vivienne, and even Solas in the beginning. There's really no Merrill who talks positively about the Dalish at the front and center of the story, while there are a multitude of characters who will talk about the good and bad about the Chantry and the Andrastian faith, and argue in it's favor even when they bring up the bad. Maybe that's part of the reason why I miss having Merrill, or a Merrill-esque character who can talk about the good, about the positive, about the intriguing aspects of their culture and religion without it simply serving as a pro-Circle mouthpiece (i.e. Minaeve, Iron Bull, Vivienne) or as a means of assimilating the character into the Andrastian faith (such as when Cassandra asks the elven Inquisitor if there is room for one more god among his faith).
Admittedly, there are also Merrill's ties to the Eluvians that could have been incorporated into the Orlesian Eluvian plotline, or even the Crossroads network that was barely utilized within the narrative. However, I don't expect to change your mind; you're welcome to your opinion on the character. To each their own, of course.

Ariane for DA4. She's Dalish without Velanna's anti-shem attitude or Merrill's Merrillness. She's also fun, a warrior (which would make a change from mages and rogues we mostly get. Fenris needs company in the warrior corner) and her relationship with Finn is adorable.
Also, Finn for DA4.

I really like the AU in which Merrill is the Arcane Advisor to Celene and takes on Morrigan's role. It gives Merrill a chance to shine outside of being a party member to Hawke and having an elf lecture people about Mythal and want to drink from the Well makes a lot more sense.
