I guess its just not a big deal to me. Fans will do as they want, they always have. If there's enough wiggleroom that someone is able to get more enjoyment out of the romance than they might not otherwise- I'm not going to stop them.

I like the fact that the romance can attract all sorts of people. To me, that's part of what makes the romance so strong.

Well, it's not a big deal to me either, hence why if it was just headcanon, I wouldn't care. It's when it's pushed on in a discussion as something more than that that I gotta throw my two cents in. Like what was said before, his sexuality wasn't said to be ambiguous, but his having sex with Lavelly was. My thoughts on the status of its ambiguity aside.

I need pets period. Where is my nug! Or mabari! Or Storvacker!

Was anyone hoping that nug that we can free from the cage at Stone-Bear, could have come back to Skyhold with us? It'd have been adorable to see that thing running around the Skyhold garden, or have a little hutch set up in that large empty patch of grass by the stables?

Inquisitor: No Leliana, we're not naming it "Schmooples III"...

The problem is that neither side is willing to compromise or accept that his sexuality is open to interpretation. It's my way or the highway.

I'm very much of this school of thought. It's clear that a lot of asexual people are happy to see themselves represented in some way through the romance/character. As they're already a fairly under-represented group, I'm rather loath to take that from them, despite what my personal interpretation of the character is.

See, my beef is, the status of a sexuality is a fact. Not something up for interpretation. Skyrim, that has playersexual npcs. This? Not stating a sexuality isn't playersexuality. If it was a thing, any gender could bang (or be with and not bang, whatever) the ol' wolf god. That isn't the case, however, which means there is an established sexuality... people just choose to ignore it.

I haven't seen anyone say that Solas isn't straight. He is. Asexuality has nothing to do with that. I'm straight and asexual. I find only men attractive. I fall in love with only men. Do I want to have sex with them? No. I could but I'm liable to read a book or make a phone call during it. The physical act of sex isn't important. I can fall madly in love for who a person is without needing to take my clothes off.

Do I see Solas as asexual? I don't know. All I know is I interpreted my game as sexless. And it's a relief to be able to do so.

I think many of us ran around it to see it follow us, hoping we could actually do that ._.

Ah sorry, I didn't follow that particular Harry/Hermione story that closely. But you can substitute the example with "Dumbledore is gay". There's evidence of it in the text, but it's not absolute. Does one take her word as canon because she is the author? I've never seen FMA, so I can't really talk about your specific example, but I get the idea.

To be clear, I agree with you. Throwing out evidence by the author is stupid. But what I view as evidence and what another views as evidence can be vastly different. Sometimes, what an author is saying is "obvious," to me, while being opaque to someone else. The reverse happens too. I'd argue that there's a scale. At 0, you have something that's not mentioned at all in the text (e.g. Solas' favorite breed of bunny). At 10, you have something that is explicitly stated in the media (e.g. Solas hates tea). In the middle is a range of stuff with varying levels of support. And I might not always place a given fact at the same place that someone else would put it. An author's comment might move me one way or the other, as might a thoughtful analysis, but it might not.

I'm just not of the mind that there's very much that is concrete in ANYTHING. Of course there are things that I think are untrue or unlikely (e.g. when people say Solas is evil), but I'm hesitant to put my foot down and say "no this cannot be" on anything that's not a "10". So I'll tend to argue from that point. If we differ in this fundamental view, then it's going to be difficult to find common ground (which is still fine! I love talking about this stuff, even with people that don't agree).

I thought we agreed to finish this discussion?

If we haven't then I would say Solas is sexual is a reading of the game text whereas Solas as asexual is an interpretation headcanon...

Well at least, we have arguments, but we're still on topic, since it's Solas-related!

And Sera's thread is back o/

Pretty sure the Sera thread got locked for its pages and pages and pages and pages of completely off-topic chatter.

Reasonable debates are what character discussion is made of.

True, but I doubt any of us want to have to start the thread over.

Especially now that we're definitely winning the secret page race vs the Sera thread.

I figure someone in that argument reported the thread, then there was plenty of justification to abandon it as long having left any semblance of being what it was supposed to be about. But the lesson there is, as someone hopefully learned here a month or two back- never, ever call in the po-po's. Not even if the place is on fire.

I'm going off topic and you can't stop me!  Well, just a little off topic, ok?  And then I'll say something on topic.  Or, wait what was I going to say again?  Oh, right!  It annoys the heck out of me that I can't get my Mass Effect 1 symbol to show up in my list of games under my pic in my posts.

And pets, yes pets would have been fun.  They could have been another Skyhold collection.  Put a cat in Solas' rotunda (cause I still think he'd be a cat person despite being the Dread Wolf).  Put a nug up with Leliana.  A fennec in the garden.  A mabari (or wolf) next to the throne.

Yeah, some people seem to have a beef with "its open". Their interpretation is the way it is and everything else is headcanon.

But Merrill is Dalish and we all know how much they get right concerning Fen'Harel. ;D Maybe Solas x Mabari would be the bestest of friends!

It's impossible to say, since I think Solas could have been quite different than the man who ended up opposing the Creators and the Forgotten Ones.

Felassan also talked about Fen'Harel as a trickster in some stories to Briala. Fen'Harel may have been quite different as a "young" pup, before he became a rebel against the system.

Of course we are unsure what time-frame Felassan is from, his stories might not be much more than fables either.
