I haven't seen anyone say that Solas isn't straight. He is. Asexuality has nothing to do with that. I'm straight and asexual. I find only men attractive. I fall in love with only men. Do I want to have sex with them? No. I could but I'm liable to read a book or make a phone call during it. The physical act of sex isn't important. I can fall madly in love for who a person is without needing to take my clothes off.

Do I see Solas as asexual? I don't know. All I know is I interpreted my game as sexless. And it's a relief to be able to do so.

This wasn't the point. The point was that his sexuality, which asexuality is called, isn't up for interpretation, certainly not playersexual, because if he was, he'd be whatever the player was and could be in a relationship with them. It doesn't matter that you can be only into men and asexual or otherwise. That's besides the point.

 

Playersexual isn't represented here. You might make that case for DA 2, but not here.

 

And as for this last part, like I said, having had sex with Solas was what the devs said was ambiguous, not the sexuality, so I'm not talking about if you think you banged him or not.

One could argue that it is all on topic, not simply because it started with Solas, but because fiction, like the Fade, reflects the real world, reenacting our arguments and opinions - and if consulted carefully, with a reasonable and open mind, one can find wisdom I am obviously biased in this, however, as I am essentially a spirit of debate drawn across the Veil. Think on this the next time you meet a lurker in game... *looks around*

Techincally Weekes never said Solas' sexuality was open (and a lot of people have a problem with open to interpretation sexuality due to the playersexuality debtates of DA2).  He said it was whether or not they had sex.

Why would sexuality be more open than someone's religion, or morals as far as how the character sees it goes? The problem is people are thinking about themselves, not the character.

I have a problem with Solas as asexual because that would mean he is lacking in sexual desire, libido, and clearly in the game that is not the case. Whether or not he has sex with Lav or whether or not she is asexual is neither here nor there.

 

So yeah, I do have a problem with his sexuality being regarded as open insofar as asexuality is concerned because it isn't. When Lav kisses him, his pupils dilate he turns towards her, he reaches for her, his expression is one of pleasure, we know through their subsequent conversation that takes the initiative in the kissing stakes... Harking back to the definition of asexuality... the lack of sexual attraction to anyone, or low or absent interest in sexual activity. 

 

Either he is asexual or he isn't (you can't be a bit asexual) and, basically, he isn't.

 

Now... If someone wishes to imagine him as asexual, well all power to them but that doesn't mean that he is.

Put a cat in Solas' rotunda (cause I still think he'd be a cat person despite being the Dread Wolf).  Put a nug up with Leliana.  A fennec in the garden.  A mabari (or wolf) next to the throne.

 

In this interest of moving forward from all of this unpleasantness, I will second the notion that Solas would be a cat person.

 

I also wish that Leliana's nugs could come live at Skyhold, because pets.
