Meh, I'd have her drop everyhing and run off with him. Then, when I saw it to completion, I'd go back to my save just before the choice and then play through the other option. And then rinse and repeat till I've seen all the content. That's just cause I get too bored to have multiple characters though and not really a personal stance. ;-)

If Lavellan has the option of vanishing mysteriously with Solas or going along with his plans, I don't think it necessarily means a loss of agency. As people noted, it depends on the character. And its also worth remembering that the first time this happened, it was with a male character giving up his plans to follow Morrigan into the unknown. I doubt very much they'll repeat the plot. But her gender would have nothing to do with it if she did.

Personally, it will just depend on what he's after and where his arc is going. My Lavellan isn't afraid of getting her hands dirty, but she [ironically] is no longer as reckless as she once was. She'd only leave if she felt she had some say or control in what was happening.

Yeah, no. I don't get that dependent fantasy at all. I would be really upset if I found out she had been used to do something that went against her beliefs.

Maybe I shouldn't have said "something stupid". I guess I meant something that seems like a good idea at the time, but if given all the facts, she wouldn't do. Maybe Solas has those facts. Who knows? I was just thinking out loud. That's the nice thing about headcanoning, it doesn't have to be completely logical. :)

Ah k, I see. Wording discrepancy. Indeed, the something stupid thing was what made me think of those other comments. The "sempai noticed me" crowd or whatever.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'd love a reconciliation as much as the next person. I realise that the way I'd worded my post made it sound like I wanted her to go all lone ranger on that ****, that's my bad. No, I'm a huge sap and would be thrilled for love to prevail. If she's into what he's about then she'll definitely go along to help.

But if it turns out that he's doing something dodgy (as unlikely as I think that is), then I'm not going to just like… toss all of my character development to the winds and have Lavellan go with him anyway just because. Each to their own though.

Edit: Also, don't fret that I'm going to start up screeching about gamer-gate or misogyny or some such. I promise I'm house trained.

Lol that's good since I support gamergate :P

But anyway, that did cross my mind. That people I know who are big feminist supporters and talk about men oppressing them on tumblr also pass fantasies of him basically usurping their inquisitor's importance. Irony.

That second piece of art makes me wonder: who RPs when talking to their LI and who picks what is likely to give approval?  Personally, I RP.  One of the main reasons I switched from Sera to Solas, actually.

EDIT: stupid autocorrect.

I RP it, though my canon Lavellan has a bit of me in there too. I feel like her personality is a bit similar to mine in that most of the 'sincere' top options fit, but sometimes she just feels like humor would be appropriate and so the sassier option gets picked. In terms of approval, it all shook out in the right place anyway for Solas, but that was because I chose to play a character that was pro mage and pro freedom and made measured decisions. So it just kind of worked naturally for him, which felt good.

I actually do like seeing my inquisitors, lavellan and trevelyan, as Thedas' "The Punisher", though the Punisher was actually intelligent, so I couldn't really jive with Solas coming in to stop them from doing something stupid... It seems like the story's going the opposite direction of that honestly.

I've seen this idea come up before, along with the ideas of Solas being the real Inquisitor, and being behind everything and this and that, and it honestly puzzles me. Not that I don't get it (well, maybe), but that people would want it. You're the hero, you're in charge. People already get told what to do on a daily basis by bosses, spouses even. Can't imagine me ever actually wanting to play runner up to someone else, no matter how much I liked that character.

It just seems odd to me people fantasize about being dependent. Submissive, I get. I write smut after all, lol. Dependent, controlled. That doesn't compute for me personally.

I actually don't see Solas even having that much control. He's too freaked out, too surprised by what Corypheus can do to be an actual "puppetmaster". He certainly set things in motion, but it was clearly not as intended - mostly because he tells you this at the end.

And yes, I agree on the submissive, dependent thing. It's something that I literally cannot comprehend. Like I get the desire - in that I understand that it exists - but to want it and believe this is a more interesting story path I'm like 'huh..?'  Like if his plans go along with mine, then sure, we'll team up.  If not, then no???  It's not about feminism, it's literally about RP-ing a character with the ability for independent thought.

Also, it's essentially turning your character into Anders - you're nice and normal but when it comes to your LI you're willing to "Drown the world in blood".  I mean if you want to RP that level of crazy, god speed, but it makes no sense to me.  Again, that doesn't apply to people RP-ing evil/morally grey characters or have goals that fit with Solas'.

For Everybody: Also, I hate to burst the choice bubble, but given that BW has slowly but surely been removing the ability for the player to make major choice options - I see whatever happens with Solas to be the one and only thing.  I don't see a world state existing where "you killed off solas" or "let solas live to set the world on fire".  He's too important, so him living or dying will impact future stuff immensely to the point where it would be a different world. I would love it, but I don't see BW doing it.

I suppose what I mean to say (before dropping the big ole 'f-bomb' like a dummy), is that I don't understand why people would want to have their Inquisitor just go with Solas even if it's totally counter to the character and story they've spent the whole game crafting. As in, have their character go with him even if they think what he's doing is wrong just because the character loves him. It's not my jazz, but then I write for a living so… I'm probably a little too conscious about making a cohesive story.

The whole 'agency' thing is just something I'm a bit hypersensitive about since I have a terrible history of being less than mindful of my own. So I don't particularly want to go and RP that when I'm trying to have a fun time.

Which rolls back into the original point of people feeling happy to have their characters take on a dependent role in the story they're crafting, when for most people playing video games is about taking action, leading, and being the hero. It's interesting. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, I don't recall anyone getting mad about the male Warden losing agency.  For the most part, people were just happy to see their swamp witch again

I'm not so sure! One could argue the Architect is a pretty major character to be left in a state of flux. Only problem is acknowledging those choices in a fulfilling way, which bioware is somewhat less adept at.

But I don't actually think Solas living or not living would really have as big an impact as you'd think. As you said, Solas doesn't have that much control. I think he often appears to be more control than he is. He's ancient, but on the other hand he's basically just a really smart guy in a burning building. That's great and all, but the building is still on fire.

The way things are getting set up, we may need some powerful potential allies.

I can't speak for anyone else, but my confusion comes from the "I don't care if he murders half of thedas, i need my EGG-BAE again".  Walking through a magic mirror is different.  I would totally leave with Solas.  100%.  But that's a far cry from genocide - which people are saying they'd commit in his name as if he's some sort of demon-god.

True. True.  But they've written themselves into some corners with the other big decisions.  That's why you had no choice but to blow up the chantry.  The OGB was relegated to nothing???   I think they could do it, but it's more that on a technical level - as you note -BW is not great at dealing with these things.

Additionally, because of the apparent difficulty in actually permanently killing a god, it would seem that (were the choice to kill him available) it would be reasonably easy to retcon that choice as needed.

I just crafted Solas the new Refined Battlemage Mail... doesn't he look younger? Maybe it's the exposed neck?

I can see them giving us the choice of killing him and, in the next game, we discover that *gasp* he faked his death. Not that I want to kill him.

No matter what he's up to, I just hope he's still redeemable. if the Inquisitor can't help him with whatever he's doing, at least I hope she can stop him before it's too late without having to kill him.

I guess I'd go through with any possible plan unless it involves mass murder (A few justified murders? Maybe?)

Also true. Honestly, at this point I don't believe half the people who are dead will stay dead. Everyone comes back!

Not that I would want that to happen, just saying that if we had to kill him, he probably wouldn't really be dead.

As far as Solas goes- I actually think the best option for bioware would be to let us have the choice of freeing him, or trapping him like he trapped the elven gods. It has the satisfaction of being a just punishment, but is 'soft' enough that bioware could free him when needed and not have it annoy fans.

If they do intend to kill him dead, I hope they would at least stick to it. The keep was supposed to make decision making easier for the writers, since there's not much chance of the game files getting progressively buggier with each addition. I don't know if they'll actually hold to it. But that's my hope. Giving us a fake kill is only temporarily satisfying at best, and exploitative at worst.

I think I could enjoy a story about an Inquisitor who, despite her best efforts, in a moment of weakness chooses her LI over doing the heroic thing. She'd no longer seem heroic to me (assuming the hypothetical genocide you mentioned), but it could still be an interesting story.

Blue-grey, Grey-blue, something like that.

2nrg2u0.jpg

I think Solas eyes are a mix of A30 and A60. A30 is too green, and not enough purple, but A60 is a bit too dark as well. In between.

My Lavellan would be a A20, but a with a bit more vibrant green in it.

As for myself, I don't see any around here that truly fits my eyes. It'd be in the D37/D50/D40/D60 corner, but I don't know which one's the closest.

I have a very distinct central heterochromia, gold/orange at the center, and green/blue/grey on the outer ring. Mostly green/grey, but it can have hues of blue when I cry (don't ask me why, I don't know, weird stuff).

Here's a close up photo of my eye, if anyone's interested (???):

they've been trying to avoid retconning for the future.  their story decisions have been more open and vague - like what happens to the person left in the fade.  or they been firm and deliberate.

we don't know what he's going to do.  again, i don't see him doing anything "evil" but possibly making life-altering decisions to the point it may start wars...then yes.  i can see this.  "sometimes one must take regretable actions..." he said this.  do not doubt that he likely has a darkness in him that may be very ugly.    personally i'd love to see it.  will I go along with it on a playthrough - for sure. just to see.  will it be canon - totally depends.
