Hmmm. I don't know about that. I don't think anything we've learned about the Pantheon necessarily invalidates the existence of the Maker. Especially if it turns out that the Elven Pantheon were nothing more than incredibly powerful immortal mages, which is a popular theory.

Edit: And to add to this, Corypheus aspired to godhood through the accumulation of magical power. If power and godhood can be conflated, who's to say that the Pantheon weren't just mad powerful?

But if you had magic and immortality, why would you need the Maker even if s/he existed?

Sera's mistrust of elves and all things "elfy" doesn't really bother me. She tries to help the people who need help the most and that makes up for most of her ignorance. I just look at her as a cute, lesbian, Bart Simpson. :)

It's funny, if you have both Sera and Solas in your party they tend to approve of many of the same things.

I didn't use Sera much since I was the party rogue and I'm mostly going to use Cole on my second playthrough, but their banters are well done. Also, Solas starts out a bit maybe annoyed and also testing her while she trolls him (also he's annoyingly elfy for her), but in the end he even comes to have respect for her and the part where he starts coaching her on how to run effective rebellions is great.

You wouldn't. But things don't exist only when they're needed.

But why worship anyone? why did they bother to worship the pantheon then.  Also, just because you have magic/immortality - doesn't mean you know everything(as solas has proven).

some people - or a lot - find solace in looking to someone/something for guidance.  the maker - this sort of unknowable being - is sort of this nice abstract idea that someone is looking out for your and there will be peace after you die.  my thing with religion - if it drives you to do good things and be a good person, i don't care if you worship the squirrel that lives in  your backyard. that's your own business...

I *love* how Cole messes with her! So funny. And Solas' lines about not accounting for "winchy-ness" is one of my favorites... Ahh, good times.

Oh I did not like Sera at all the first time I played. I couldn't understand a single thing she said and the subtitles were so small I couldn't read them without giving myself a migraine.  Now, I actually like her. I've gotten used to the way she talks and now that we can make the subtitles bigger, I can understand her more. My Trevelyan had fun playing pranks and throwing cookies at people with her. My new Lavellan (Atisha, which is going to be my canon as soon as I can fix her nose) hasn't gotten that far yet. She just made it to Skyhold. I think they are going to be good friends since Atisha doesn't really feel Dalish and questions everything. My Atisha has also never really had any family growing up (her parents were killed, she was raised by the Keeper) so Sera is going to be like a little sister.  And I'm rambling again, sorry I do that a lot.

Weird thing about Sera is, as far as her "philosophy" goes, she's kind of the one character my own views agree with most, on a base level.

People are people. Treat everyone the same whether they're elf, dwarf, human, qunrai or nug. Doesn't matter if they're the friggin Queen or live out of a shoebox. Help the helpless and harass those who abuse their power and trust on those less fortunate. I can even go with the whole "say what you think" attitude.

BUT!

I cannot stand that she will not change her views when presented with evidence to the contrary. I cannot stand that. The willingness to just close her eyes and stick her fingers in her ears and grasp blindly to her own "truth", even when she knows herself that it's a lie, is just...gah, I don't know. The combination of the two is something which makes me conflicted about recruiting her. If I treated it more like real life, I'd have given her a chance and then booted out once I had fully come to know her.

Glad I wasn't the only one. My reaction was astonishment and "what was bioware thinking". I was really hoping she wouldn't sound like that in the whole game..

I said this before, but if I were an immortal with powerful magic and could still screw up things immensely and people looked to me as a "god", like Solas for instance, I'd be downright frightened. Believing in the maker wouldn't change anything, but lol, I think someone like that could very much find a use in religion. Them most of all, even.

I talk a lot of trash about her, but I think the irony of an elf being more faithful than the herald of andraste (depending on your response) is delicious. She's more devout than the lot of them when you look at it.

It's a set of memes/gifs that feature an inquisitor with each romance option and their 'description'.  Love is kind...patient....etc.  I can find the Mass Effect Version, but I know that the Dragon Age Inquisition version was posted on this forum back in the 1000's or 2,000;s.

I know the thing you mean.  Solas' is 'love is selfish', right?  That's the one you're thinking of, isn't it?

And a lot of people tend to use 'me' and 'my character' interchangably.

Yeah....I just can't find the darn thing anywhere.  I've got a co-worker who wants to play and I want to give her 'spoilers' without giving her spoilers.  She thinks Solas is to unattractive to romance.  So I kind of want to give her the flavor of each.

And be thankful I played Solas first so that I didn't balk at a second playthrough with him.  ;)

I've been searching and can't find it.  It crops up on my dash every so often.  I see it again sometime soon and I'll grab the link.

I think deep down, she's just really scared.  She touches on it when she talks about Corypheus, how not even fanatics want to be this right about the end of the world.  She doesn't want to think about things like gods and elfy stuff and the Fade, because whenever she does, it feels like the world is coming apart at the seams.  It's a bunch of scary stuff that she can't hide from or change, and so she tunes it out for her own sake.

Not that it isn't a frustrating viewpoint, but it is understandable to some extent.  And again, interesting foil to my Lavellan who values the truth, no matter how much it hurts.

Same.  You know you're fallible, but other people believe you're someone who can change the world on a whim and fix all their problems.  There are shades of god-hood with the whole Herald of Andraste thing, and it terrifies my Lavellan out of her mind.

I love Sera a lot. She's just too pretty. And she's my Lavellan best friend along with Bull, Dorian and Cole.
After the Temple of Mythal, she says you're being stupid because you're the Herald of Andraste while you believe in elven gods, and if you tell her that she's the first who says stupid things she agrees with you and she gives you approval. Also, as seen in the DLC

Spoiler
.She just doesn't believe it, and she needs to believe in something.

I think she's way more mature than she shows.

AND SHE'S PRETTY OKAY.

I almost completely agree with this. I certainly appreciate Sera as a character, I just really dislike her personality, which is possibly the point. She's designed to be divisive. Part of that is that she doesn't treat everyone the same, even though that's her philosophy. She is disparaging of elves, especially the Dalish, and clings to her dislike of what they are instead of accepting that individuals are individuals unless you get to a very high approval with her (I've never had that scene myself, still working towards it, so I'm not even sure if she changes then?). In a romance, she makes you choose between her and your faith/lifestyle. Essentially she wants you to renounce who you are to better fit what she wants you to be. That's not treating everyone equally at all. Is she equal across the class divide? Yes. Just not across the races. It's her hypocrisy that rubs me the wrong way, along with her willing blindness to the truth as you say.

As I say, I've not seen all of Sera's content so if I've got anything wrong, let me know. But from what I've seen of her so far, that's my impression of her.

Mine never claimed to be this Herald, and always claimed belief in elven gods, so this was particularly jarring since the whole 'hey, the gods exist in some form, although I learned a few things that make me question what we actually know'  and then her response was just SO tone deaf and hurtful.

I do like her character (and yes, she is quite pretty...those lips and eyes) but for my canon, she's kind of hot and cold on Sera, but still considers her a friend and respects her values and such.

With Solas, she just connected more, even though she probably came across as overeager to relate to some people who looked similar to her but who she discovered, were both quite different in their own ways. I played up her Dalishness in the beginning most.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love Sera a lot. I love bits like the pranks scene, the hat gift when you romance her, and the fact that when you asked around people's opinions about what gift would please her, just the fact you did that makes her happy beyond belief. Or that bit about pride cookies. I would never want to kick her out of my Inquisition, much less so not recruit her.

I don't see my Inquisition without her, I love her take on the little people, sticking up to the nobles. I'm pretty sure she's the only one having that kind of point of view, and my Inquisitors value that, even though at times, they totally disagree with her, find her insensitive and a bit of a jerk. But my Inquisitors know also that it is necessary to keep her around, because she's a breathe of fresh air when she wants to be, and because her point of view is something they don't want to dismiss. All other companions are mostly educated people, coming from privileged social classes, and she's the only one I'd consider coming from the lowest social class, and I wouldn't want my Inquisition to become a circle-jerk of people having the same opinion on everything.
