If any of you have read His Dark Materials, for my Lavellan her relationship with Solas occupies the same sort of space as Lyra and Will's.  It was first love, and it was deeply intense and passionate despite a relatively brief duration.  The emotional impact of the relationship will certainly last for the rest of her life.  But as Lyra says, at some point we have to build the Kingdom of Heaven in our own worlds.  And that means learning to love again.

Aaaand now I have feelings. And his bit about, "In another world...."

Ugh, Will and Lyra's realization that they could not even stay in the same world was so heartbreaking.  And the park bench....

Quick question.

If you drink from the well, and Flemeth survives to the next continuation of the story. Then you are bound to her still?
Meaning - if you are a solamancer and romanced him, and there is a confrontation between Flemeth and Solas - then wouldnt it be heartbreaking if you are forced by mythal to fight Solas?

Because of this I'm wondering if you who romance Solas choose to drink from the well. Because it would certainly be an OMFG moment being forced to fight the one you love :P

Sorry if this has been mentioned already, don't really have time to skip through 3000 pages -.-

It really depends if Flemeth is still alive. Solas took her power but she passed her godhood elsewhere...so we really don't know what's going to happen.

I think Mythal is definitely alive. But Flemeth very well might be dead.

IF Flemeth's Mythal power passed onto Solas then yes you're bound to her. Then Solas would technically have the leash.

I don't think Flemeth is dead. She's too tricky to do that. She'll in all likelihood come back.

This, I think. I thought it was very much a given that Flemeth died for real this time in DAI. I personally think she's outlived her role as "mysterious old witch" and her being Mythal has already more or less explained where her powers came from. However, Mythal and Fen'Harel are probably as one now.

I sincerely hope Flemeth isn't dead, because I love her to bits, really. She's badass and an overall great character, I'd be sad if that was the case.

I just get the feeling that what Mythal wants, and what Solas wants, are two different things and Solas doesn't know it.

Spoiler

Or something like that. :-) Oh I do love a good speculation. May even do a fan fic of my desired ending...once I get round to finishing the ones I already started that is.

I love everything about this. Think of the angst!

And I think that Mythal's consciousness or essence or whatever actually makes her 'her' is still around, while her power has been transferred to Fen'Harel. I would say that Flemeth is gone for good. From a narrative standpoint she's pretty much outlived (or not) her usefulness to the story anyway.

I have the horrible feeling that a Lavellan who romanced Solas and drank from the Well will not be able to continue the romance at all.  If Solas has Mythal's power over her then, given his views on freedom, he would want to be in a relationship with a woman who was bound to his will.  Unless something happens to break her geas she's under then they can never be together.

Yes. I think that's why Solas was so upset about "paying the price". Essentially, Flemeth had to die for Mythal's power to be transferred to him. Which was sad for everyone all round (especially Flemeth cause she's a shrivelled old corpse now.)

The only issue with this is game mechanics and plot issues. The devs have weaved themselves a huge web of possible outcomes, but in order to keep the game going they are going to have to make one outcome...maximum two...it might be like the ending of witch hunt where regardless of how you choose to part with morrigan, she is still parting with you.

The last thing the programmers/ writers need in future games is more and more paths to make....it sucks but the game is limited...

I sound like the biggest downer...

I think whether you drink from the Well or not, you should STILL be able to continue the romance. That would be downright CRUEL of Bioware if only one group was able to pursue him.

If that was the case, wouldn't he have broken it off straight after the Temple? We know from Weekes he wasn't planning to when he takes you to the waterfall of doom.

For ToP, Solas and my best girl ;)

Even if it meant not continuing the romance my Lavellan will still drink from the Well.  To let Morrigan take the knowledge of her people would be so out of character.  I'd rather lose Solas then have her betray herself.

He only absorbed Mythal's power after the orb broke and his plans changed.  Now he has Mythal's power of her it's changed the dynamtic of their relationship.  I can't see a man with Solas' views on freedom be willing to have a girlfriend who was bound to him.  Even if he never used the hold he has over her he couldn't go back into that relationship.

Not necessarily, since the orb was still intact and he had plans to recover it. Once that orb was broken, his plans had to change to plan B and thus, he went for the nearest divine battery. ;)

I had Morrigan do it since my Lavellan listened to Solas when she asked and he advised her not to. But depending how it all works with story DLC, I might change the world state to be different.

I don't think drinking from the well/not drinking from the well will have an impact on their romance. I'm not really sure what the well choice will really impact other than possibly some future things with Morrigan.

Its possible that if we do run into another elven god in a DLC, the character who drank from the well would 'remember' them. Or have some bit of important information.

Which makes me hope that maybe Morrigan would be playable for a post-game DLC. We do need a mage, since you can potentially run off all of them...

I do not think that's going to be the case for about 1000 reasons but the biggest one is the shitstorm BW would get.  Not least of all people unknowingly being locked out the romance.  Then, there's the implication of being "controlled" by an ex-bf...if you thought BUll/Dorian shitshow was bad.  BW is not that dark.  I think they will make it very clear, all that Solas has is Flemeth's "power" like she was a battery.  The godhood - the thing that would control the well - is not his per the dev notes. If he has it, it is something he can't use or has to store.
