Didn't stop me when I was fourteen and doing ALL the bad Mary-Sue self-inserts. Like, Hogwarts transfer student bad   But in hindsight, the more writing you do, the better you get, even if it starts out a little painful.

 

Confession: I did write one or two (I think it was two) FF7 smut fics when I was fourteen or fifteen, but I never posted them on FF.net. xD They were mostly just kept hidden away in my computer files. Come to think of it, I think I wrote a DBZ smut fic as well... (Yes, I have a problem with smut, don't judge me!  )

 

If I ever find the urge to write fanfics again, I'll let you know... ^__^;

I've never really been into the smut, always the everyday lives, the feelings, the greater situations, etc. I don't see myself writing that sort of thing either. Though a friend keeps teasing me about "Fade banging", but no, that's not where I'm going. Ha. I heacanon my Lavellan and Solas as definitely physically involved, but mostly in the real world. I see myself writing around the theme of sleep next. Unless some JoH later inspires me.

 

 

I have an entire, very through Mass Effect headcanon too but that has never been written down.

Ha, the first time I ever wrote smut was my Poisoning the Well fic. The reception though, was overwhelming. I did it for a bit of a laugh and challenge after inspiration came while I was reading Kink Meme prompts and eating pickled beetroot. Never thought it'd grow arms, legs and threesomes. Strange and stranger.

There's never any problem with smut.  NEVER.  *rolls around in the garbage*

Srsly though, i like the pretty fluffy tales and non-smut fics just fine.  Some are wonderfully written but it is unfortunately rare.  So if I must deal with a story sans sex, it better be on point with characterization, pacing, adherence to canon somewhat(meaning it still retains the world's logic)etc.  When it fails, it's painfully obvious and I lose interest pretty quickly.

Lovely story! I've a confession to make. I never read fan fiction before this year. Now I find myself reading DAI fan fiction every chance I get.

I've been writing fanfiction for a number of years now, it's fantastic practice for when you want to branch out and write your own things.  Most of the stuff I write I always look at and see things that need improving (pretty much why a lot of my stuff isn't posted, I edit WAY too much) but it's fun to let your mind wander in a pre-existing universe like Dragon Age.

 

I have to admit, I was in a writer's block before I finished DAI.  Now I find myself writing a lot more across my stories, adding bits and pieces here and there.  Other fics and artworks help with inspiration too, I've read some amazing fanfictions that can rival any book

 

Things need to be lore-friendly though...I'm a little weird with that.  I've ended up dropping ideas that just didn't work because of that xD

 

I'll also add that I love writing about little day to day things and sad scenes...but I an my own worst critic and see the sad stuff I write as "too angsty" so I never seem to finish it.  Or I do and I don't like how it turns out.

EDIT: But yeah - my writing is not great. i work in the legal field so my writing is very matter of fact and to the point.  when i tried writing solas/lavellan stuff...erk. I'm good at setting up scenes and i think i actually have a good handle of characterization.  i'm actually fairly ok at writing solas' voice, but then it's putting them in larger scenes...it's just...meh.  so it's more like...i have high standards. i like to read!

If I'm perfectly honest, I'm pretty immune to the Solavellan feels at this point - EXCEPT for that fic. That one KILLS me every time.
