... I don't know why, but I just had the image of Solas being like, "Yes, vhenan. I am an artist. I will create a masterpiece of your courageous exploits within the Inquisition and present this to you as an emotionally charged, meaningful gift."

 

And then several months pass and he hands you a piece of purple construction paper covered in macaroni, pipe cleaners, glitter and glue. It's the thought that counts? I don't know. I shouldn't be awake.

This was the first time a BioWare LI made me blush IRL.  I am a grown-ass woman who has been playing these romances since Baldur's Gate, and the Fade nerd makes me fall all over myself.  The other line that made me blush was this:

 

Solas: I do adore the heady blend of power, intrigue, danger, and sex that permeates these events.

Ooh yeah, those are good ones. And yeah, when he said sex I think I just about fell out of my chair. Well, not quite. But I did break in some sort of ridiculous high pitched laugh.

 

Also, is it just me or does his accent intensify during the Winter Palace dialogue? I feel like it was probably an intentional thing on GDL's part, due to the knowledge that Solas was all high on the atmosphere and a touch drunk. Unless I'm imagining it. But if not, it's great.

No, he does sound different there.

 

Also, his "hunt well!" made me laugh because it was an unexpected thing to say but also he sounded.....exuberant? about it. Meanwhile, we're kind of supposed to be undercover.

I love drunk!Solas.  He's happier and less inhibited, and at least at the Winter Palace, he shows more of his darker Dread Wolf side too.  "Hunt well."  He has no compunctions about the Game and its gilded savagery, and if anything, he admires the Inquisitor who plays the Orlesians for fools.  Such hot wow.  Much smooth.

So when I was lying in bed last night, in that awesomely comfortable state between wakefulness and sleep, I had a chunk of Solas' dialogue repeat in my mind, and it occurred to me that not a single one of GDL's deliveries of Solas' lines fell flat for me. I honestly can't think of anything Solas says that sounds anything but good, as far as the voice acting is concerned.

 

So I fell asleep thinking, hot damn, we really hit the jackpot with voice actors in general in this game, and doubly so for Solas. GDL is just so spot on for Solas' character. I feel like a good 80% of my affection for Solas is caught up in what he says and how he says it. So. I might have to build a co-shrine to Patrick Weekes and GDL: the former for writing the best character and accompanying dialogue ever, and the latter for having a wonderful voice coupled with the ability to convey metric ****-tonnes of nuanced emotion.

I know a lot of people here don't like how antagonistic he is towards Bull but pre-Tal Vashoth!Bull and Solas arguing about the Qun is amazing.

 

Him giving Sera advice about revolutions is amazing too.

 

Some of his banters with Vivienne.  In particular the 'accidentally set his coattails on fire' the one where she tells him to ask if there's anything about magic he doesn't understand.  Sarcastic!Solas is the best.

Here are some of mine. :3

 

• "That's a matter of debate. Probably best discussed after you... wake up!" - This along with Fade tongue really got me. 
• "Sleep well?" - It's the way he said it, especially if you've started the romance with him...

 

And for the feels:

 

Lavellan: "Solas, don't leave me, not now. I love you."

Solas: "You have a rare and marvelous spirit. In another world..."

Lavellan: "Why not this one?"

Solas: "I... can't. I'm sorry." <--- The anguish in his voice! Great job, GDL!

Cute! I've always had this personal headcanon of Solas teaching Lavellan how to dance. My Lavellan, in my head, is a good dancer but she has no idea how to dance with people like those fancy pants Orlesians. Of course, Solas would come up with the excuse of, "I saw it in the Fade."  And for some reason, I always pictured Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" playing in the background as he teaches her. (Don't ask, I just love that song.)
