Everytime I saw someone saying that the explosion only killed Elthina and a handful of Templers my reaction is tumblr_ngxt36Zsn71smwj1yo1_500.gif

Lay brothers and sisters, scholars, refugees, orphens, people who came in to pray or seek guidance, people who happened to be near the Chantry, priests.  That's just the groups I can list off the top of my head.

Dont forget:

Oh, good. So I wasn't remembering totally wrong. I need to play through again at a more leisurely pace and have a closer look at things. I did everything available, but I was so caught up in the story and exploration it sort of blurred together for me.

As to what it could mean... maybe someone better at digging into things like that has an idea. I'm at a loss today.

It's possible this has been discussed before but...I remember reading this codex but didn't think anything of it at the time.

He spoke to me later in the day, and asked that I call him Corypheus, as it was the name he would take for himself after a ritual. Master - now Corypheus - told me that my people, the elves of old, were tied to the Fade, and that in order to carry out the will of Dumat, he would need to call upon the magic that lives in our blood.

I'm desperate for more lore. I mean, Coryfish liked to listen to himself talk. We could have sat down over a nice cup of tea (with Solas sneering in the background) and discussed things like adults.

After I stabbed him a few times.

Now we have to wait 4-5 years for another game?

Solas was in Dawn of the Seeker?

46.jpg

After Solas' departure from Lavellan, he found himself shaken. Full of grief. Eventually, he found a plucky little squirrel in the woods he wandered. Solas found the squirrel's exploits to be so impressively captivating that he began painting the forest trees in fresco, an homage to the little creature's brave choices.

Unfortunately, so bound by his woe was he that Solas found himself unable to hold his painting hand steady, and a particularly bad tremor led to a massive blob of magical golden paint landing in one eye. He left it; just one more stark reminder of his many failures.

He then found a bottle of Tevinter ale, got ****** drunk, fell face first into a stump, chipped his tooth, mumbled something about the ale being of Elven origin anyway, and woke up with no memory of the previous month, with bits of squirrel hide haphazardly bound together like sloppily spread swiss cheese covering the gaping wound over his head.

You're welcome, thread.

Hardly. Origins came out in 2009. That's 3 games in 5 years.

We're looking at a 3 year wait, tops.

(I've thought about this a lot)

Okay... something I was thinking about from an earlier conversation:

I have trouble seeing Solas as a self-loathing character - someone who separates himself from his friends and loved ones because he feels he doesn't deserve them. And I just realized the reason for that is because I don't think he could have let himself into the relationship with Lavellan if he truly felt he didn't deserve her. He's the one who says he needs to consider and think things over, and afterwards he comes to admit that he respects and admires her and tells her he hasn't forgotten the kiss. If he was actually self loathing, I think he would have just came to the conclusion that he didn't deserve her and leave it at that. He has plenty of chances to walk away from her and if he was self loathing, I think he would have taken them - not gone into the relationship after careful consideration.

He does tell Lavellan before the second kiss that leaving "would be kinder in the long run." I think, what he's talking about there is that he knows his path is dangerous and could end in his death, and he doesn't want to start something that could end that way. As we know, he adds, "but losing you would-" He decides that walking away from her and not pursuing the relationship would be worse than the possible outcome of how the relationship might end. This is something he decides is worth having, something he embraces - not something he walks away from because he feels he doesn't deserve it.

In short, I think he certainly feels guilty for his "mistake." But I don't think he hates himself or feels he doesn't deserve to be loved because of it.

Okay, that does make me feel better but did I mention that I'm extremely impatient? Like sitting in a doctor waiting room for five minutes already cussing kind of impatient?

*whispers* It hurts so much.

Okay I'm not that bad but I did ignore all DA:I news until two months before release. Ah those were blissfully unaware times when I had no interest in Solas at all.

*rocks in a corner laughing hysterically*

I'd agree with that assessment. He seems rather a bit too pragmatic for the self-indulgence of sitting around hating himself.

Though it does still leave the question of why he leaves. Does he think his path is too dangerous? Is she a distraction? Is he worried she'll retreat from him, knowing who he really is? Or is it because she thinks he won't agree with what he plans to do? I honestly have no idea. But I do think that, for him, the relationship is really built upon the fact that he sees something in her that reminds him of what he used to have, of how their people used to be. And I think he lets himself get involved with her because it's so hard to see that, that chance for redemption, and not want to be close to it. So it would seem, tragically, the very thing driving him into the relationship is what eventually forces him to end it.

Well. Probably they'll have some sort of resolution or tying up of loose ends in DLC, which will be out in considerably less time than a new game.

But sometimes I wonder that we shouldn't be careful what we wish for, because they certainly might give us that resolution. Of one kind or another.

Ahhhh, how simple life was before Solas existed.

I'm also incredibly impatient, hence why I have taken the time to figure out what my average wait-time is looking like.

I was under the impression from Weekes' Nerd Appropriate interview that he left because he almost abandoned it all just to stay with her. A mega distraction. He couldn't betray himself and all he's worked for. And if/when she offers to help he flat out says no.

I see part of that no as his pride rearing its head, as in he started it so he has to finish it alone, (his parting words to Cole) and also because he might believe she can't help. She's strong, yes, but is she on the same level as him and Mythal at full strength? And that seems to be what's needed.

That podcast made me need the blanket fort.

I guess I just can't quite get around his refusal to let her help. She's the leader of one of the most powerful organisations in Thedas, she's hardly some shrinking violet. It bugs me. I just feel like there has to be more there than just 'it's mad dangerous, yo.'

I can see that. I do think part of why he leaves or wouldn't want her to help is because he's protecting her.

And I can definitely understand him leaving if he almost gave it all up for her.

But I wish he'd let her in, damn it!

Shhh~ No, don't say such things. Strangely, when it comes to these games I'm an eternal optimist and hopeless romantic. Real life is another story, however.

As time goes on I am becoming okay with the prospect of Solas maybe dying and his spirit reforming in the fade or something. But I do want the option to go out with him at least. My canon Quiz would do that in a heartbeat.

Otherwise it better be a happy retirement ending where we drink fermented fruit on a fishing boat all day.

Funny you should say that given that the devs said that had the Exalted March expansion for DA2 been made, the story would have involved more tragedy and grimdark. I suspect a LI or sibling would die.
