So... I just read an article about a man who now has kidney failure because he's been drinking like 4 litres of iced tea every day....

I just wanted an excuse to post this pic again. teeeheeee
It's mine as well. (not just because it's ours). it sings to my tiny socialist heart and makes solas about 1000x sexier to me some how. also the guy that wrote the codex - even though he comes off as a total looney- i want him to be just...AMAZING. i love the first line, it's so powerful. all passion. loose cannon. saxual revolutionary mohawk elf hair. (I have not thought about this extensively AT ALL)
right now i just want to go hang out with fen'harel in arlathan setting **** on fire. i want that story.
Badass revolutionary socialist Solas is something I could definitely get behind. I want to see that. I want Fen'Harel setting Arlathan ablaze with his fab hair blowing in the smoke-filled breeze.
I want it for… science.

His banters with Sera about revloutions are some of my favourites. He gets really into it and then tries to cover by saying that he knows all this from 'the Fade'.
Meanwhile: Lavellan Greatly Approves.
Wow that's a lot of tea. I don't know why anyone would think it logical to drink anything in that much excess.
I agree that the protectiveness probably extends not just towards physical protection from death or harm, but protection from the truth, protection from ugly things he may have to do. And there's probably a certain freedom in going into it alone because he can be singularly focused on the task, not allowing himself to be distracted by her safety or her state of mind.
IMO he's still angling for a punch to the dick ![]()
The future of the People isn't his to determine. It doesn't belong to him alone. It belongs to Lavellan, to the city elves, to the Dalish, to the elves who are still enslaved in Tevinter. And it's CERTAINLY not his place to decide whether Lavellan can handle the truth or not. If that winds up being his motivation for leaving, he's in for a Molly Weasley caliber ear-blistering from my Lavellan.

On topic: Solas' butt.

Also, I get the feeling that whatever this is that he's planning, it may severely impact all the other races in Thedas, whose fate also isn't his alone to alter as a consequence. The lack of a say of anyone else is what would turn him to a tyrant/dictator, as I suppose he has already been subjected to with the current perception of Fen'harel.
Jebus, I hope he doesn't just go and do the same thing again, forcing a huge change because he is convinced his own opinion is correct. You know what they say about people who keep doing the same thing while expecting different results. It would seem to go against what we know of him. Logic, cause and effect, the basic right of each individual to chose their own path. If he is going to force through some huge, global change, well, he'd really be no better than Corypheus. Actually, he's be worse due to having witnessed his downfall in the first place.
I know I know..not Solas...but it made me giggle

The future of the people, maybe not, but if it's about who he is, I'd say he has every right to decide whether someone can handle his truth, since it concerns his own personal identity and life. She's not his wife.

Blunt as ever - god love ya'
But I agree. I also don't think it's about whether or not she can handle it - I like to think he knows she can. Or at least accept it with some grace instead of throwing a fit. However, it is HIS decision if she gets to go. I also think his fear of her leaving with him to do whatever is he is going to do is real and somewhat justified. I have a feeling it's just going to be a mess...not just because of him too. He knows his own weaknesses and it's fairly established that one of them is his feelings for her. If she were to insist that she goes - i think he knows he couldn't decline. He may even trick himself into believing it's for the best, but then...it probably wouldn't be. We'll see how it plays out. It may be one of those things where he should have asked for help and didn't and it blows up in his face. Or it's totally understandable.
But I do agree with Sable - it's not for him to decide what's best for the people. What's "best" is so different for each elf that it's insane to think that what he's doing is a good idea for all of them. then you have to think about the rest of the races in thedas, it's bad news bears.

What we can tell is he seems to want to fix his mistake injudgment, but from banter and other bits, it also seems to be that he has learned some lessons to a degree, regarding his regrets and knowledge that he acted potentially without enough foresight/care.
How that will play out remains to be seen, but he seems to have (over?) analyzed his actions and, in some ways, possibly matured in his ideas. That said, he has made multiple mistakes before, so this is no guard against further bad decisions.

He can't even let her touch him after he breaks it off. He'd get drawn back in.

And there's the rub with all of the theories I've seen/come up with so far about what Solas is doing. If he restores/releases the Creators(who were tyrants), if he disintegrates the veil (which will obviously cause issues for many people), it goes against those principles we know he holds dear. Even restoring the elves to the point of making them all mages again sort of does that b/c it'd be without their permission. The only one that doesn't contradict that I've seen is that he might be going to try to solve the issue of the blights, assuming the taint has an origin with the ancient elves, which I think it does. But that would help everyone, not specifically the People, so...
What is this egg-headed, wolven, fade nerd up to??? >_<

Druid is what I was most tempted by, I want to roll a Fire Godlike instead of a Nature Godlike. Does it make a difference?

Yes. Totally. Absolutely. Though I wouldn't discount your theory because it helps everyone and not just the elves. I think Solas, as much as he can be given that he's found himself in a future that has a larger diversity than he was probably use to in his own time, is very much for equality. I think if it helped more than just the initial group he had targeted, then he'd be more than happy with this.

Maybe... though the dialogue exchange with an angered Solas comes to mind here. Rough quote here: "I thought Humans brutish and thugs. And you proved me right. You have no idea what a comfort that is." -Cue dem chills, yo.

Yeah, dude takes no half measures when he's angry. There's definitely a less 'chill nap time fade-bro' side of him.
Here's my happy wish fulfillment gif spam for how the reunion with Solas goes.
It starts with "Vhenan, I have returned."

Then "You egghead, you left me in the fire swamp!!!"

Then "But Vhenan, I did it because I looooove you."

And finally, rainbows and sunshine and bunnies for Cole.
