Are you talking about when you talk to Solas in the rotunda after the breakup? If so, then you're not the only one. I'm a masochist and I always go pester Solas about that whenever I go back to Skyhold, even though I know nothing good will come out of it. 

 

Yes, all of this, exactly. I swear I do this every now and then because I guess I like pain and even though I too know nothing will change. :/ Also, as I said, the voice acting on GDL's part, making the end bits sound lower   and inflected with hurt. Doing this multiple times also got me into the right mood to write my last feels-y, angst filled post-breakup fic if anything good came of it. The fact it is made obvious that Solas is also hurting over his decision kind of....helps in its own strange way.

It helps and doesn't help.  It's good to know that he still cares so deeply about Lavellan.  On the other hand, it means I have to be sad for both of them instead of just Lavellan. This romance.  It requires actual emotional capacity for a bunch of pixels

It really does. And ugh, here we are. How sad and tragic and layered and still mysterious Solas is still inspires much thought and emotion, and Lavellan, almost completely left in the dark. So much left unresolved.

Considering how many players romanced Alistair, Solas, and Anders...I'd say we sent that message pretty loud and clear  Especially with Anders.  Solas and Alistair's potential tragedies kick in later.  When you meet Anders in DA2, he's already possessed.  There is no way that could end well, yet I jumped on that burning ship and rode it all the way to Nightmare Demon Reef.

 

No regrets.  Would hellspiral all over again, 11/10.  Though Solavellan has been the worst by far.  First romance to inspire wish-fulfillment fanfiction from me.

I am always more sad for Solas than I am for Lavellan. I think she'll probably move on and find someone else given enough time, but I feel like he just... Won't. And that's really depressing.

I wonder if this was what Solas could have been like in earlier drafts? Maybe less on the crazy but the concept arts did show him to be a bit more cunning-looking.

True. He looks less unassuming in his concept art, which is why I'm glad they went for the look he has now since it made the reveal at the end better. I've seen some fans crying that Bioware should have gone with his dreadlocks look and I'm like:

I need more of this AU.  It's wonderful.  I wonder how a more serious Red Jenny Sera would work?  And would Solas be upfront at the start that he's Fen'Harel?  I may have to start writing this AU.

That argument is so ridiculous because honesty, haven't y'all heard of google? But, realistically, so much of female character design in video-games is to appeal to the male gaze, why not throw in some babe'n dudes? Who cares if someone wants look at an attractive person? How is that an inherently flawed reason for doing anything? And why shouldn't I think a character is attractive just because like… two dudes are going to be jerks about it?

 

But I digress, the reason I like his in-game design is mostly because it makes the reveal more surprising, but it also seems like Concept!Solas would have been a completely different character, and not one I would have necessarily liked.

If they went with Concept!Solas, do you think he'd have even more fangirls (and fanboys?) than he does now? But then that would be at the expense of making the reveal at the end a big surprise. And as Catfishers' said, he might even be a completely different character, which is something I'm sure a lot of us would not want to happen (unless maybe some of you do want it to happen, I dunno).

It certainly fits the whole "hot-blooded and cocky, always ready to fight" description that Solas gave of himself back then.  Though if Bioware were to show a flashback to his youth, I won't be surprised if they don't use Concept!Solas as Arlathan!Solas.   (Because, hey, this is Bioware we're talking about. Though who knows, they might still surprise me at the end.)
