I imagine that if this were the reason why Solas didn't break up sooner, that it was another case of him thinking and waiting until he felt he had to take action. Perhaps he didn't want to make his departure after that much harder. Dumping and leaving without ever returning, after the ball was obtained (if it wasn't shattered) really would have made her feel used and like nothing to him. Just taking his ball and going home, as it were.

I don't know what he would have done with the orb intact. Maybe he would not even have left the Inquisition? Maybe he would not have taken Mythal's power?

I really fear it's just monetary reasons why they did not polish it to be believable enough. I do see how it can be realistic that they have different ideas, disagree with each other, and still get along, on a basis of mutual respect. But it would just require a few more scenes, explanations, and discussions to sort things out. I even think, DA2 did a much better job. But they were forced to, because rivalmance was a deliberate design choice, while in DAI it just happens unintentionally.

And while I never could make out this stuff myself, apparently if you romance Solas, they talk about you both as elves and say it's kind of boring but makes sense and might be calling you knife ears.

They definitely call you knife ears. They're pretty nasty about it, to be honest, saying something to the effect of 'well they are elves, what else are they going to do but have sex?'

Which is kind of like… rude. This is my house. And I am standing right here. And yes, my gigantic pointy ears can hear you.

Since it has been touched on, in the last couple pages, I have a question. (Sorry for off-topic)

Fiona has always been at Skyhold after Abyss for me (in fact, she has a very moving converstation with Inky about 'not regretting your past actions'), but she does vanish near the endgame.

Hmmm. Thanks for answering. :)

This is banter about the castle?

I still have yet to hear anything interesting like that from them.

That being said, I wish I could attack them or at least kick them out.

All of those douchey Orlesians that always hang about in Skyhold. Mostly they're just like 'Inqueeezitor.'

But occasionally you get 'lucky' and they bust out the racial slurs.

Honestly, I do think DA 2 handled their romances better than inquisition... I mean, I think Solas and Cassandra are far better than any other romance they've done so far, and Cassandra's easily my favorite, but the mechanics of the actual romance, when willingly established anyway, was a lot better imo. I think it's the fact that they took place over years for the first time also, besides rivalmancing.

As for Solas leaving, I have no idea where to start on that, but one could guess that he might not leave. After all, we assume based on the notes and speculation that he left for her power out of necessity. And I would assume that if Mythal had her way, she'd give her daughter her power as well as divinity, so I doubt this was planned.

I'm not sure what others think about his departure concerning lavellan, but a case can be made that he'd have stayed if the ball was in tact, since he leaves for every inquisitor. Of course, I would still leave if I were him. Wouldn't want to risk the Inquisition wanting my artifact for their own needs.

I got that line from the Orlesians under Vivienne's balcony, just inside the entrance.  Vivienne and my Lavellan were (to my immense surprise) excellent friends, so I like to headcanon that Vivienne pulls another "B*TCH FREEZE" on them the moment Lavellan pretends not to look.  And ne'er again did any Orlesian have the gall to badmouth the Inquisitor or her lover within Skyhold

This is my thinking exactly. Like, how many more people is a bro gonna kill without Hawke there to stop him?

I may have written some extremely depressing drabble about what happens to Anders after Hawke dies in the Fade. Even in Act 3, he says that Hawke is all that's keeping him sane. Maker, if blowing up a Chantry is sane, I'd hate to see insane.  I don't think he'd last long after Hawke goes.

There's the meta knowledge that we have as players, which is that Solas considered telling her the truth and staying with her, which doesn't preclude the need for him to go off afterward with his orb, but it would've been in a different context (much like Alistair as king is stuck ruling while the Warden in my game is off on her search).

And how is this related to him not ending the romantic relationship with Lavellan even though she does things that completely contradict his morality and belief system? :D

Some of the gossip is based on who you romance.

If you romance Sera, the betrothal and/or wedding dress line gets an "or is that two wedding dresses?" line added.

And while I never could make out this stuff myself, apparently if you romance Solas, they talk about you both as elves and say it's kind of boring but makes sense and might be calling you knife ears.

No, they say "Be careful. Ears." Implying that you can overhear, and probably a nasty comment about the size of ears. But they don't call you knife ear. I have CC on so I don't miss lines haha.

I need to recreate my cannon but I can't decide between a Warden or King Alistair. Warden Alistair is so much more fun, yet I worry about what is going on in Weisshaupt (can't spell) and I would have to kill Hawke. I honestly don't think either are truly dead but I'm going to be mad if my favorite playthrough kills Hawke and Alistair in vain.

I swear to god there is also some point where they point out that 'The Inquisitor is also a knife-ear.' But I could have misheard. Or it could have been those other jerks out in the courtyard. It's hard to remember with everyone being so rude. Haha.

Those are the same jerks who are planning your wedding after you broke up!

Got my Lavellan print. Soo nice. But I had to take down Grunt in order to have enough room. I feel really bad about it.

Whenever you go to Val Royeaux for the first time the guards call you a knife-ear. That is the only time I heard it.

Mmm... wondering that myself. Beyond that it makes me think yet again he didn't reveal it for reasons other than "he wanted to but didn't because he didn't want to burden her". I think people read into that scene too much. Hell, I don't even see the moment of hesitation people talk about and that the author mentioned.

And then there's the woman who lost her ring and refers to you as rabbit. Well, thanks for using the 'nice'  racial slur, lady.

Am I the only one that thinks this would be a cute pet name for an elven mistress? Lol.

I'm pretty sure that guy near the stables who's always ranting about elves definitely says 'knife ear' at least once.

tbh I don't even know what this guy is doing with the Inquisition. If you hate elves so much maybe you should just… idk… **** off? Just maybe the organisation run by an elf is not for you.

I'm finally reading Masked Empire, and those Orlesians man. They do not treat elves well. I'm pretty sure 'Rabbit' is practically a pet name, in the grand scheme of terrible things they call the elves.

It's in his eyes, mostly. Very subtle, but it's there. It's like a tiny second where you see the realization. Which is why the cutscene team and motion capture people, and animators deserve so much credit.

Also, carefully observe during the game when he either looks away, even for a second, or pauses while speaking. He's very deliberate and careful, so if he pauses, trails off, looks away....

It really is like the polite society 'nice' racial slur but the Orlesians almost don't even realize how offensive it is. They certainly treat it like a pet name.

I never had that banter at all.  They just talked about how it was a little dull.
