It's in his eyes, mostly. Very subtle, but it's there. Which is why the cutscene team and motion capture people, and animators deserve so much credit.

Also, carefully observe during the game when he either looks away, even for a second, or pauses while speaking. He's very deliberate and careful, so if he pauses, trails off, looks away....

Yea I've been told this before, but that could mean a host of things. It's subtle alright. Too subtle, imo. It's something one couldn't really know for sure unless later mentioned. Which, it might. If so, then I can appreciate the subtlety.

Though really, I honestly don't see it, and I've watched that scene five times now. Youtube though. Still haven't finished my lav run.

It really is like the polite society 'nice' racial slur but the Orlesians almost don't even realize how offensive it is. They certainly treat it like a pet name.

The Orlesians are incapable of realizing how offensive their very existence is.  What's a few slurs here and there?  :P

I'm finally reading Masked Empire, and those Orlesians man. They do not treat elves well. I'm pretty sure 'Rabbit' is practically a pet name, in the grand scheme of terrible things they call the elves.

I find 'rabbit' worse.  At least with 'knife ears' you know where you stand with who you're talking to.  They see you as less than human, you know they're a massive jerk.  'Rabbit' seems to be said by people who don't even think they're being racist.  Plus, later in the book, there's university papers about elves are closer to animals (the long ears...) and so can be hunted.

Wait a sec, did weekes say that they gave clues in his eyes and all that, when he said Solas hesitated? Or did he just tell us that Solas was going to tell us but changed his mind?

Solas always pauses before he lies and there's a pause right before he says 'your face'.  So... I think that answers your question?

Rabbit is a perfectly acceptable social term for those that understand their place and show the proper amount of gratitude for the favor bestowed upon them by their betters.

In my current Trevelyan playthrough..I created an a-hole Hawke in the Keep so I could leave him in the Fade without feeling bad. He did a lot of bad things. Varric pretty much hates him. He romanced no one, but he kissed Felicia Day. It felt good leaving him in the Fade.

I feel similarly. I see "rabbit" as very dehumanizing and patronizing. Also disingenuous since "rabbit" sounds like it's a pet name (and thus a positive), but it's really used as a racial slur and a diminutive nickname to remind the elf that they are considered lesser ("less of a person" and "lesser social status").

No, I mean did weekes confirm that they left these clues or did he only say that Solas wanted to reveal this and decided not to? I ask because that pause to me could have been read as anything, him bracing for what he was about to do for instance. That's how I saw it anyway. Is this an official thing with the body language or is it hindsight speculation in other words.

edit: I'm not trying to say weekes is wrong or something, just to clarify. Considering who he is and everything.

The first time I heard rabbit used was when the Orlesian woman wanted me to find her ring. At first I had no idea what she was talking about. I was thinking about it half way through the whole winter palace mission until it hit me.

It's consistent with the rest of Solas' behavior, which is why I said throughout the game, pay attention when he pauses or even looks away for a second.

He pauses then too, and Weekes made reference to the pause in that podcast.

He was focusing on the catch in his voice, if I remember correctly, but overall appreciated that you could see it in the scene. I think it's only obvious to him because he wrote it, though I don't mind it being very subtle, mainly because I think having an obvious subject change would demand the opportunity to question it. Full disclosure, I did have that interpretation when I saw it, but I don't really know that most people in that actual situation would have noticed anything except "wtf?"

Lol no. It's a small thing really, I'm just thinking because it's possible he didn't say it for more than just the reason we were given, and if so, he might not have even decided right then and there. I'm trying to get facts separated from assumption for the sake of my own theorycrafting.

Now, from about 6:34 onward here (this should play at the proper time, but you never know)....he pulls away, his pupils shift ever so slightly, and look at his eyebrows.. The realization is definitely in his eyes and his expression.

Honestly, I had already been accidentally spoiled on who he was right before the temple but not on the breakup, and I was watching his face carefully in part because I was marveling at just how wonderfully subtle his expressions were throughout, so I caught that and spoilers kind of helped me though my poor Lavellan. :/

He was gushing about the voice actor and cinematographer really carrying the scene and capturing the right-then-chickening-out.

That voice actor, damn, what a guy. He couldn't... remember the name but he's really a big fan.

This was after I left Alistair in the Fade.

So then...bug? On whose end, not sure. *shrug* I went first to Solas (straight after Abyss), then up the stairs to turn in creature chunks, then turned to look for Fiona. I wanted to see if she would say anything about Alistair if left in the fade. But she be gone! Even looked at the Mage Tower and the Garden/chantry chapel (just in case). No Fiona.

On topic: per the "color" convo a few days back. I have done the earthy tones on Solas, and some royal colors (the reds and blues), but I am in my white/black/grey color palette phase, for him. Damn I love that tinter-table! <3
