I don't understand people that make or post in hate threads. For example..I hate Twilight. I'm not going to try to convince people who like it that it's complete crap. If you like it..that's fine..I'm sure there are things I like that you hate. I'm also not going to make a thread in a forum about Twilight talking about how much I hate it. That just seems pointless and asking for people to get pissed off at you. There is already so much hate in the world, why add to it with stupid crap like hating a book or TV show or video game characters.  It seems so unhealthy to be filled with so much hatred. Pretty much like Delphine said, why not put all that hateful energy to good use.

 

I really do not like Inquisition. I thought it was by far the worst writing BioWare has done in a modern game, with weak and shallow characters and a incredibly vapid plot.

 

Why do I spend time here? For one, I like being able to analyzing stories and the responses I see here allow me to develop and refine that skill.

 

But I'm also here on the off chance developers can hear what I have to say and hopefully implement it. I think I'm pretty much done with Dragon Age, but I'm still very much invested in the Mass Effect series. I care about it greatly, I enjoy it, and there's any way I could push it in the right direction instead of the direction BioWare seems to be heading, I'd like to do that.

 

For the record, I do put time and effort into making sure my posts are argued as well as I can argue them. It is energy put to 'good use.' I'm not here to mindlessly foam at the mouth.

 

That all being said, in the unfortunately likely event that the next ME game turns out to be a dud like Inquisition, I probably won't be here much longer.

(I can relate, I had the same kind of feels when the game started talking about that Grand Duchesse Florianne. My name's Floriane, and it's already pretty rare in French, but really unheard of in English-speaking games/books/series/anything )

Thing is, the right direction for you might not be the right direction for most folks. Inquisition in particular had the feeling to me of trying to please everyone, which is not at all surprising after the vitriolic hate for DA2. I finished it with mixed feelings, for a lot of reasons, but I played it again for my story-writeup, and ended up enjoying it a lot more going completionist - which is unusual for me. I liked that there were all these things you could find out if you wanted, but didn't have to - initially I had agreed that there were too many non-critical maps. Most of the fights were still simple, but I had some amazingly long ones because of some stupid mistake I'd make right before that made me happy. There were so many times I could say, "Ah man, I wish they'd..."

 

But for every time I wish something had played out differently, a hundred people may be sending them happy letters. More than that, for every hundred people complaining about something being pointless, a single person may send a meaningful thank you that made their time worthwhile. Who is one person to say what the right direction is? It may well be a different direction than many posters would like, but it doesn't make it wrong. This, more than anything else, is what keeps me from even the most well-reasoned topics devoted solely to deconstruction - the certainty that they have merely gone astray, and require one specific person's guidance to get back on track. That's not how it works. Feedback is important, but it just comes off armchair-developer.

My friend was talking earlier about 'if only she had a Cullen/Fenris' pillow and so I just sent her this link. She's in Europe and sleeping, but she should see it when morning comes.

I also told her earlier that I am not interested in a Solas pillow. I'm still not, but I would take a little plushie Solas. Or maybe try sculpting a tiny version of his necklace to wear.

I understand it a bit because sometimes you just need to rant and get it off your chest. It's the people who keep on ranting I don't get, there comes a time where for your own sake you just have to move on. I'm never going to forgive or forget the growing sexism in Mass Effect but I'm passed the point of spitting vitriol about it. 

 

People who go into fan threads and post nothing but hate though are just looking to start trouble.

Oh I understand ranting..I do it all the time on my Facebook wall (probably too much)..but I like you said...the people that go into fan threads and rant are asking for it. I don't understand those people. And people that go and like a celebrity just so they can tell them how much they suck every time they post. Why? Does it make those people feel important? Does it make them feel empowered?  I just..don't get it.
