That's really nice.

I plan to to make one that is much smaller/more subtle and, if possible, double corded like his is. Just need the time to go get black clay and cords.

That's how it works. You either have none, or you have too many to even write down.

So true. I had lines and even whole ideas come to me earlier as I was out for a walk. Like nooo, I already have plenty.

How's your fluff vs non-fluff struggle going?

Embrace the fluff.  Always embrace the fluff.  There's too much angst and wangst and wailing/gnashing of teeth in this fandom already

Oops, I did another short, feelsy, reflective thing again just now. I have two in what I foresee as a series of...5 around the central theme.

I should take this advice and attempt fluff though.

I might do some fluffy stuff about my Lavellan and her first love, falling for her training partner when they were young. That was the full idea that came to me earlier in my previous post.

*grabby hands* Is it ready for public consumption? Cuz' I'm hungry for some feels.

Plus, I'm in a bit of a slump and could use a nice distraction. I can't seem to make anything I'm happy with at the moment, and I'm too wired to sleep. Urg. I was drawing Solas stuff earlier in the evening, but everything I've done is p!ssing me off. So I thought I'd write instead, and now I'm just sitting here, re-writing this same dumb paragraph over and over, to no avail. •_•

Anyone have any amazing tips to encourage the self-doubt to bugger off and get the inspiration flowing once again? I just wanna do stuff. Silly brain.

Well, as with anything it's just my opinion.  But personally, there's only so much angst I can write.  If I want angst, I'll just go back and replay the breakup scene, or my Tabris's death in Origins.  For truly epic sobbing, there's Mordin's death on Tuchanka.  And currently, Pillars of Eternity is giving me a good strong dose of Obsidian-grade feels.

But what the games don't do (for budget reasons) is the in-between stuff, so that's often what I end up writing.  And it's frequently fluffy, sweet to balance out the in-game bitter.

I find myself drawn to a mixture of both. I almost always write in between stuff, or parallels. I do read fluffy stuff but what really got me about Solas was the sadness and tragedy and hurt inherent in his character. He's so layered, and coupled with the reveal and analyzing how he's been over the whole game, the blend of his whole character, which was written so well.....that's a large reason why he's so utterly fascinating to me.

Hey, I like fluff when it feels in character, and some people have totally done that well. I think I just have a lot of feelings.

The training partner thing i am actually considering writing this within a greater fluffy Solavellan thing where she's telling him this story from her past.

That doll I ordered, I'm hoping I get to the mailbox before my mother does when it arrives. I don't want to have to explain to her that I bought a Solas doll from the UK for $52.

Picture?  I'm so desperate I'm attempting to make a Solas doll...

Oh and that elf male.. you'll hear later more about him xD

And lastly.. when I make comics I do not make them as detailed as my normal drawings on purpose I hope you don't mind that but this is just a sketch of the beginning.. I only made lines.. gonna detail it still a little XD Hope you like it.

Oh I understand ranting..I do it all the time on my Facebook wall (probably too much)..but I like you said...the people that go into fan threads and rant are asking for it. I don't understand those people. And people that go and like a celebrity just so they can tell them how much they suck every time they post. Why? Does it make those people feel important? Does it make them feel empowered?  I just..don't get it.

Because people have to let the world know how much they hate something.  And how they're right and oh-so-smart and fans are dumb and wrong wrong wrong.

I swear, if Fiona and Bianca were men they would not get nearly as much hate.  In fact - compare Maric and Fiona.  He's just as much a Mary Sue as Fiona, makes terrible decisions and yet he doesn't have this hatred from fans that Fiona gets.

I don't think anyone who spends their last few days alive having their blood sucked out of them can be called a mary sue.

I fielded a lot of Maric hate back in the days when I was a Theirin fangirl. Prissypants, Mary Sue, the whole nine yards.

And as I said in this thread already, the whole "they hate them because they're female" thing is IMO a case of seeing a pattern where there's just scatter. Sure some female characters get hate. Some male do. If you want to see a pattern, that's what you'll see.

Depends. Sounds like a rather passive role to have in the issue.

I wonder if people appreciate the meaning of Solas' big reveal.

This franchise had never acknowledged the existence of any gods before. The Maker? Never.
The Old Gods? Even Corypheus wasn't sure if Dumat ever existed.

But hey look, Fen'Harel walking among us. Not a mere host like Flemeth, but the real thing.

Well, some think Solas is just a vessel too. Remains to be seen.

I'm placing my bets on the other alternative because unlike Flemeth he was in slumber. A vessel doesn't need to do that.

Another difference is that Flemeth doesn't identify as Mythal. She treats her as a separate being. Solas however, speaks in the first person the entire time during that epilogue scene.

Of course, people who believe he's only a vessel still do have a case. Solas claims to have a mortal childhood.

He's the king, connected to Flemeth (which automatically puts him on the same level as a player character), he has speical dragon blood, every woman he meets falls for him, and, despite making really terrible descisions, he ends up winning.

If the gods were just powerful mages then him having a normal childhood doesn't stop him from also being the real Fen'Harel.

His mum was murdered in front of him, his first love betrayed his army and was then killed by his own hand, his wife rotted to death and there was nothing he could do about it, his best friend becomes cold and distant and also gets his son killed, Fiona leaves to go to the opposite side of Thedas, and he spends the last years of his life having his special dragon blood sucked out of him with a straw.

As for the terrible ideas, he only wins because Loghain and Rowan constantly bail him out, most of the battles he fights result in heavy casualties on his own side despite having a Loghain. I mean, for someone called Maric the Saviour I expected him to be more perfect.

I, personally, am in the Solas is truly Fen'Harel and not a vessel group. The thing is, I'm looking at it from the writers' perspective of they've done it already with Flemythal. If they do it with Solas, then it's going to get repetitive and display a seemingly lack of creativity on their part. It's this reason (along with others) that I also don't think Sera is Andruil's vessel. From my position, the only way I could see them doing Solas and Sera are vessels is with a really, really good reason, or if they do it with all the Creators, and even then they still need a really, really good reason. If not, then they risk appearing repetitive and doing the story a major disfavor. There are, of course, a collection of other reasons I don't personally believe Solas is the vessel, but this is just one from a logical standpoint. Ultimately, I believe Solas is actually Fen'Harel, and I believe that Sera is special in some way. However, I will be the first to admit my logic and reasoning are anything but concrete.

Assuming they are actually gods (Solas included), Solas doesn't seem to think the elvhen gods are actual gods after all.

That said I'm also betting Solas is the actual Fen'Harel, not just a vessel. If the elvhen body is immortal and he was never killed then I doubt he would need to switch bodies, and considering his biggest fear (pointed out in the fade) involves something to do with dying I also doubt Fen'Harel has ever died (seems you wouldn't be afraid of dying if you could just move your soul wisp to someone else after death).

I'm not sure if I believe the god thing though. Mighty damn powerful? Yes. Gods? I'm not sure. But I guess that depends on your definition of a god.

I'm in the ancient Elvhen + powerful mage camp... He might have been viewed as a god but I don't think he self defines as such...

I'm of a mind that Solas is just Fen'Harel too and not just Fen'Harel in a vessel. I think there's a distinction between him and Flemeth in that way and what reason would there be for a piece of his spirit to have to take refuge in a vessel?

As for Sera being Andruil, it has a lot of evidence but I'm hoping it won't be true. I'm not sure it won't be true, but I just don't want it to be! It kind of ruins the effect if so many characters we know were secretly elven gods in disguise and though there are slight hints with Sera, her suddenly revealing herself to be Andruil's vessel in the future would feel like it was really out of left field. Solas was subtle before the reveal, yeah, but he still got a reveal. Andruil Sera would pop completely out of nowhere as of now and kind of cheapen Solas' reveal a little.

Oh and hi Solas thread! Been busy as of late so I can't do more than lurk every so often. I hope you're all being stand up fans and treating each other well.  :D

I agree. I think people just assume he could be because of Flemythal but she's a different case because of her murder.

Rowan fell for Loghain?

Fiona does net a high octane grade of vitriol, but IMO it's due to the elf haters and pro-templars in addition to those who are disgusted with her actions in Asunder and DAI. If it were only one of these, she'd get your garden variety kind of hate. As it is, she's got the trifecta and people jack off to her skewered voodoo doll.

Bianca's kind of a putz. She was just disappointing to me.

Rowan was in love with Maric before falling for Loghain.  I've never been able to work out what Fiona does in Asunder that's so bad.  She only holds a vote and goes with what the majority wants.
