Well, Weekes did say recently that Solas has a more grey view of the mages/templars issues. At the same time, though, we know he's very into freedom and that's why he clashes with Iron Bull over the Qun. It's a little unclear what Solas's views are on the issue. I'm not entirely sure how strongly anti-templar either Solas or Dorian is, come to think of it. Maybe Dorian is the mage freedom proponent, Vivienne is pro-circle and Solas is more "I can see both sides", because it seems "both sides" is sort of his thing.

I don't think he's lonely, per se -he had his passion for the Fade to occupy him- but I also think that learning to live with other people, and enjoy their company, could potentially be a part of his romance/friendship arc.

Or hell, I could be completely and utterly wrong, but it's fun to speculate.  :P

I've got a second Inquisitor lined up for him; a female kossith mage. She was inspired by the part of PW's interview where he said "Honestly, Solas hates people who look at him and just see an elf." As both a qunari and a mage, she knows that most people look at her and see a monster, and that takes a toll. What she really wants is someone who can look past all that, and who doesn't care what's on the outside. So...now that I think about it it's sort of a reverse BatB story.

Ohh, that would be a really cute way for it to develop, actually!
But haha, omgosh. Solas as Belle. I LOVE IT.

if i could draw you better believe i'd be drawing the crud out of that rn.
Qunari even have the curvy horns and everything!

I'm sure it will.  A reaction that strong is pretty rare but circumstances shifted here early on in July and I've been having a harder time functioning like a person ever since.

All this talk of Inquisitors kind of makes me want to talk about my first lady but I'm not sure how to do it without babbling uselessly.

I'm sorry to hear that, but I can understand. Things have been on a downswing for me lately as well. I hide it by SHOUTING A LOT, hahah.
Just remember! THE ANXIOUS-SOLAS-FAN BLANKET IS HERE FOR YOU.  ^_^

Also, I say go for it! I babble about my wardens ALL the time... I love them so dearly, I'll talk about them to anyone who will listen, heh.
I don't have anything planned for an Inquisitor, though... beyond DALISH MAGE. Because elf mages 5ever.
But I don't know enough about how things will be to form a solid story yet, you know? I've got like, a rough outline... but that's it. I'm okay with that, though. My first playthroughs are always a MESS anyway. And since I'm a perfectionist, I've basically relegated them to rough drafts of what will be my canon, heh.

You know, that's an interesting guess, actually. It's pretty hard to tell, I think... He IS an apostate and he is big enough on freedom to having spent his whole life alone, away from everyone... but if he's "gray," well, I can't imagine him being straight up combative on it, either.

I could probably see that more from Dorian, really, considering the templars he's used to are incredibly different.
also a little OT but Dorian seems like such a cutie omgosh. I never even considered playing a male in a BW game, because, you know... if I want to play a male, I can play anything else??? but Dorian though. I might just do it to see his romance, eep!

I love what we know of Dorian and I'm looking forward to seeing his romance. We have an interesting group of mages, to be sure.  :P

The mages all seem to be the smartest of the group too. All three are described as very intelligent. I hope we get to hear some of that come out in their banter and that all of it isn't teasing the poor scruffy hedgemage about his outfits.

We really do! I'm loving that we have three and I love how each of them represents a distinct viewpoint that's both very different and opposite from each other. I mean, Morrigan and Wynne were obviously directly opposed in Origins... but while I love Morrigan, I never wanted to hear it from her when it came to the circle, tbh. She had no idea what she was talking about. And Wynne of course was just an Aequtarian so, while I also love her, she had nothing interesting to say on it either. And Anders and Merrill, well... they had nothing in common at all? I mean they were both apostates, but that's it. There were no interesting conversations to be had and it made me sad. So really looking forward to Solas, Dorian, and Vivi!

That and I am very excited to able to have an all-mage party. I don't care if it doesn't make tactical sense! IT'S GONNA BE AWESOME.  :D

Babble away!

I'm just worried about keeping Solas' approval up. Lenore is pro-templar. Actually she's mostly pro-whatever keeps the peace because revolutions tend to lead to destroyed farms and dead children.

I think Solas is pro-Templar to the extent that somebody needs to help protect your average farmer from mages and demons that wish to do them harm. Considering that he doesn't like people telling others what to think he probably doesn't like that the Chantry is the one regulating magic usage.

"Magic is to serve man, not to rule over him" to most people means that mages need to be controlled or we'll end up like Tevinter. It could also be taken as "with great power comes great responsibility" meaning that a mage must control his/her power instead of the other way around.

Solas doesn't fear the Fade or his magic, but he does respect the danger that it represents. I wonder how he'll get along with Dorian considering that he can throw around quite a bit of power and combines it with Tony Stark level cockiness.

Haha. That's basically me. I don't know if I'll get around to romancing a female LI, but if I do, it will definitely be Viv.

Same here... and I mean, I've loved all the mage companions in the whole series so far (minus Awakening, because I haven't played it). I loved Morrigan and Wynne, Bethany was great, I happily (relatively speaking, since both were a bucket of issues) romanced both Anders and Merrill, and I'm really looking forward to romancing Dorian, and possibly Vivienne and Solas as well.

I don't think I can say the same for even rogues (my favorite class), and certainly not warriors.

I gave Solas's profile another pass over and it seems like it would suggest he sees the circles as teaching the mages to be close minded in their dealings with the fade and with spirits. I think he basically sees their approach as a sort of racism. Especially from the summary line about his conflict with Vivienne saying, "you're close minded and we should be making friends with spirits". It also says he comes basically because he suspects you'll need someone that better understands the fade and he doesn't trust that with circle mages. So, from that, I would assume that he thinks the circles are doing things quite wrong. He might understand that they exist out of fear and not have a lot of anger or disdain for them, but I don't think he will support their existence or the belief set of the Chantry.

OT, I know but I am excited for the Josephine thread. Here is a link to DG's tumblr http://dgaider.tumbl...-get-back#notes

"I need you to grunt five times, like you’re being hit with a sword."

"Oh, is this for her soundset?"

"…Yes. Oh, thank God we don’t have to explain."

I wonder how much advisors say to companions. I just want to hear Josie and Solas talk to each other so I can gush over smexy accents.

On the subject of fanart, is it okay if I put any future Solas themed art here? I don't want to make it seem like I'm clamoring for attention or anything but I put up a Vivienne painting in the Fan art section and the comments felt kind of...dead...over there? If no, I'll just keep Baldy McLongjohns to myself.

No take backs, fanart is now expected. I will just wait right here

I think they actually have exploration options for everyone now. Rogues open doors, mages can fix bridges WITH MAGIC, warriors break barricades. They also mentioned a long time ago that some characters only would know about like, certain dwarven runes or elven writing, etc. There's no winning, I think. You just have to keep taking everyone back to the same places and making them look around. lol

Three mage parties rule. You get your dedicated healer, your debilitator that renders all your enemies useless, and your primal mage to throw down the fire and lightening. Your rogue just kinda stands there like "what? I'm just here to pick locks and sh!t." Fun times.

Also, i just watched the new Alix video. I just love her voice. I hope they do one for Sumalee though... I've Youtubed some of her stuff (and of course, I loved her in ME3), and she's got that bit of grit to her voice that I think would suit my girl really well. It'll be hard to choose which to use first.

Man, I'd feel terrible if I had my all-mage party with me and I came to the point they showed in the demo, with Leliana being tortured behind a locked door. I'd have to leave her there and go all the way back to camp to grab a rogue.

"Sorry Leli, be right back!"

"Where do you think you're going?!"

"I need someone to open the door!"

Maybe she'd mellow out on her, "NOBODY SHOULD HAVE THIS POWER", attitude, though. See, Leliana, it's not so bad. Defeating mages is easy, we just need a well thought series of locked doors and they'll all be undone.
