Though there's a special place for the wordsmith who determined the default for human female Inquisitor would be Evelyn Trevelyan.  I think the accents make it less rhyme-y, but then again, this also happened:

Clearly something has happened to me at one point.

The truth is, I used to be very skeptical of every new game I started (I'll fall in love with a game I'm currently playing and find it difficult to start a new one) so I didn't really care what the name of the character was. A somewhat common scenario: a few hours in, I love the game, regret my choice of name, but don't bother to restart.

Since Marian was default for Hawke, DA:I was the first game where I took the time to find a proper name.

 

 

Edit: Holy hell, I can't believe I just admitted it. I must start a new life with a new name.

I usually get so frustrated in the CC that I just want to play the game.  most of the default names are fine and since it's only ever seen in writing, i'm like...whatever. so it's laziness and being fine with whatever.  there are few of my own that i have in rotation that i use from my MMO days - where I care more about naming since you can have it for years.

You're a good artist Mims, so I would imbue your Lavellan with your talent. I think mine would end up looking like Moondrummer did it - hidden Oghren included.  Or I would just commission Moondrummer and my Lavellan would cry at its beauty over the completed dragon foot with sword(I mean, WTF is the last panel).

I like Cal. but she is awesome for different reasons.  Mostly bad-ass freedom fighter. So you're more...heartened by her cause where Samson is just tragic.  I also think people write him off because A. he's set up as a bad guy so people are automatically booing him b. he's ugly and old(40's...so not that old) and I've unfortunately seen where - because of this - he's not really worthy of your concern/consideration.  which is quite sad.  I think it's interesting that cullen tries so hard to reject the similarities between the two of them. i think he knows deep down that it was luck that landed him in the Inquisition.  he know has friends and a support system outside of the chantry/order which samson never had and still doesn't.  i hope they don't just write him off in some codex.  the lovely thing about him, jo berry(samons' writer), seems to love his character. she's one of the few writers that actually talks on the forum. she'll pop up and show her fan-art of him and like other people's discussions of his character and their fanwork.  i think that says a lot and i think is kind of the nicest thing ever when writers show their love of their characters.  hopefully she's able to write a nice ending for him.

So it really is like the fan opinion on Carver and Bethany.  Bethany tends to be the better liked twin because she's set up with friendship points and is generally quite sweet, while Carver is pre-set with rivalry and is more confrontational.  People then just dismiss Carver as annoying, whiny and a mage hater when there is actually so much more to his character (in fact, he's not even anti-mage.  He's anti- Hawke gaining the notice of the Templers).

I don't think I'm doing too bad on the girls' names for variety.  Though they all have three syllables, so I guess that's something?

 

I never wind up putting too much thought into the PC's first name, though.  If I like it and it doesn't smash the lore to itty bitty bits, it's good to go.  I mean, my sweet and forgiving Lavellan shares a name with one of Garth Nix's more villainous characters just because I happen to like the name

You've pretty much touched on the reasons I really dislike Cullen's character(among other things about him).  I was quite put off by the way he reacted in that quest.  I don't think that's Cullen's "fault", Gaider came out really hard against putting him back in and then it seems they were sort of strong-armed into doing so, so there could be this 'golden boy' character.  In the end, his writing suffered because of it though.   But yeah.  I'm not trying to pit Cullen vs. Samson - mostly because Samson seems to really like and respect Cullen - but Cullen needs to realize he's not there for skill.  He's there because Cassandra's own weakness of being swept up by romantic/heroic tales made him out to be more than he is.  He was very lucky.

To be entirely fair to Cullen's character and his writer (Brianne Battye), I think she did the best that she could with three rather different versions of the character to reconcile.  No writer can be expected to make DA:O, DA2, and DA:I Cullen gel together seamlessly, and since DA:I was the game she was writing for, DA:I Cullen was the one we got most of, with hints of what he was like before.  I agree that Cullen's character development is weaker as a result, but I don't really see how else that could've been done.

Obviously you both remember it, and this remains a popular thing for Solavellan fics, but I wonder if it would be good if it were real or more strange. I imagine if it's deliberate and agreed upon it's not weird or jarring.

 

Like, yesterday, my boyfriend and I both accidentally fell asleep and I dreamed and he was there with me in it, doing some mundane things but then I woke up and had to wake him too since we were going to watch something.



.....and this is what I just spent three minutes of my life thinking about.

Solas tells Bull that getting it on in the Fade tends to attract demons, so I wonder if he and Lavellan actually have sex in dreams.  Though it might be different if you're doing it with another person than with a spirit?  Hot-and-heavy kissing is apparently fine since neither of them get eaten by demons after Solas literally dipkisses Lavellan and puts his thigh between her legs

Dreams feel real enough, don't they? The situations you encounter within them may often be absurd but the emotions they evoke are genuine...

Dreams generally don't feel odd while they're happening. It's only on later reflection that things might start to seem strange. For me, anyway.

 

And yeah, I've felt all sort of emotions in dreams, I often wake up crying from things that happen in them (which probably says something about me but… whatever).
