Honestly...anyone in general.

Edit: I would throw the mic at Anders too.

I really like the part where he throws the mic at Anders.

I can't find the reference now of course, but I'm pretty sure someone verified that this is referring to A Wonderful Life. Which is like...the most depressing interpretation of that movie ever.

That last one is said to be a reference to Meet Joe Black. The It's a Wonderful Life one is very sad, but I love hearing it flipped.

Are you saying that Solas' current body is Shartan's? How is his body not decaying then? From what we've seen bodies decay even when they're inhabited by other spirits (Justice, Zombies).

Justice was forced into Kristoff's body, which was lying dead and decaying in the black marsh for quite some time already

i could be totally wrong, but if i had to speculate (or at least throw out some enough plausible reasons to hand wave it away) on how FH could possibly still be carrying around Shartan's body without it rotting away i would hazard that

a) fen'harel is a god, justice is just a spirit

b)ancient elves were said to be immortal, an innate part of being elven which i suspect had something to do with Solas's fixation on spirits and the relationship between the two

c)the body sustains itself the same way cole sustains himself without having to eat or sleep

at the very least, i think this is more likely the case than cole and solas walking around discussing movies. I know cole's comments in the tavern are movie and game references but i don't think everything he says is just obscure pop culture triva

I haven't thought about that movie in ages, but you could draw parallels between the way the romance is dealt with in that film and Solas' relationship with Lavellan. It's actually… pretty similar.

At that point I would just have to ask the people - so what? I love BioWare games for all that the characters are and maintain that they don't have to be bangable to be awesome and worth taking around with you in the big wide world. But if someone plays the game because they like a specific character, or they prefer the romances first and foremost, why is this bad? Are we to suggest that they are being silly girls? Does this take away from the possibility that they otherwise like the game? Why is it automatically a negative? Anyone suggesting there is something "wrong" with a person for liking a romance story might want to examine why they take pleasure in stealing someone else's joy.

Also, the slobbering stupidity of "youz jus liek Solas cuz he god" needs to die. Those who romanced him first had NFC. Those who ran through the romance after finding out so they could experience it and find they liked it did not necessarily like it because he's a god, but because it's a damn good romance. Wallowing in personal made-up negativity you project on others has to be a really crappy way to live life, yo.

Agreed.  Who cares why anyone romances any pixel bf.  I ended up with Solas because he's charming and has a cute Welsh accent.  The End.  But even if I romanced him AFTER I found out about the reveal and wanted to date a God. So what? Why does it matter why anyone does ANYTHING in these games. If I want to headcanon that my Lavellan is a terminator sent back from the Cory infested hellscape future to save the world and I have to romance Solas to steal his power-orb in order to finish building my nuclear missle arm then dammit I'm allowed to. The reasons why people romance anybody in this game are personal and their own. It's not anyone else's business.

In all seriousness, he's a lore relevant romance, so whenever you go in for any big stuff regarding what he is, you have the extra umph with the romance. People like that. It adds DRAMA.  So if people went after the fact, then it makes perfect sense.

I think Lavellan/Solas is running into the same **** that Coulsand/Theirin ran into in DA:O. Though it's not as popular in terms of numbers, it's clearly the most impactful to the story in some ways. It also has a very loud fanbase only because it's still up in the air.  So you have the push-back from the anti-fan-girl brigade which is typical in any fandom.

I only saw it for the first time about 3-4 years ago, and I can understand drawing some parallels. It's also relevant to Cole since it seems the films he talks about  outside the tavern are centered around spirits or ghosts or angels, etc.

I want futuristic cyberpunk Inquisition SO BAD.  Solas can be one of those grumpy jerks, all like "In the days of Arlathan, the elvhen had no need for crude mechanical augmentations."  Then Lavellan can punch him with her badass rocket launcher arms until he sees how awesome augmentations are.

The only star-shine worth shining.

Lavellan-Cop: Citizen, where are your papers?

Meek-elf wandering through Redcliffe: Papers? What? I mean...I can get you some parchment.

Lavellan-Cop: Citizen, please produce papers or you will be considered hostile.

Meek-elf wandering through Redcliffe: Look, mam? Sir?..I can't really tell, I'm sorry. I don't know what you're referring to but if you need some parchment I can go get some.

Lavellan-Cop: Hostile combatant detected. Deploy missiles.

If you couldn't figure it out, the elf dies. Because  Lavellan-cop is judge, jury, and executioner!

On Deus Ex (isn't that an appropriate title?):

You can see the trailer below for yourself, which shows what protagonist Adam Jensen Solas is up to after trying to save the world in Human Revolution following the fall of Arlathan. This is a mission that looks to have gone a little awry, and Jensen Solas feels that he failed, instead plunging the world Thedas into a deeper level of chaos.

Lavellan-Cop: [menacingly] Please put down your weapon. You have twenty seconds to comply.

Confused huntsman: I think you'd better do what he says, Rolof.

[Rolof drops his sword. Robo-Lavellan advances, growling]

Robo-Lavellan: You now have fifteen seconds to comply. You are in direct violation of Penal Code 1.13, Section 9.
[entire area of people in full panic trying to stay out of the line of fire, especially Rolof] You have five seconds to comply.

Rolof: Help me!

Robo-Lavellan: Four... three... two... one... I am now authorized to use physical force!

[fires pec-cannons like a fembot]

Never Alone was cute and very interesting for discovering a culture and lore I had almost no previous knowledge of, and I found the story charming, but on a pure gameplay level, it was quite frustrating at times. There are still some bugs left, and collision boxes here and there that are faulty enough to make the player rage. Especially when things are time limited, and you have to be super duper precise about all of your movements. I enjoyed it a lot still, because of all the things I learnt (really loved all those documentary bits here and there), but I don't think I'll ever play it again.

:/ That's disappointing to hear. I'll probably pick it up at any rate, cuz' it looks so damn cute and pretty and I'm really into the cultural aspect of it. But I'll adjust my expectations first.

Oohh hi there. Don't mind me; I'll just be staring at this for the next twenty minutes or so. Wanna grab him by that fine jaw and crush dat mouth with mine my Lavellan's.

Well, maybe, but I didn't see anything particularly objectionable. I prefer a diverse group of people to a knitting circle.

I think we do have a diverse group of people here. And part of the reason why I enjoy this thread so much is for most of its contributors' open-mindedness and ability to share varying thoughts without resorting to needlessly antagonistic or superior communication styles. But I know it is the internet, and not everyone is happy to control their jerky impulses in this regard. ;)

What do you think of The Unfinished Swan? (Is that indie at all?) I am not really into platforming/exploring, which is probably why indie games have rarely reached my heart so far. But from a purely artistic point of view I see the appeal. And TUS should be really interesting for you, considering how original it is?

The Unfinished Swan was great. Really different, visually interesting and enjoyable. Oddly uncomfortable, as well. I'd recommend it.

For me, it's a side thing that CAN and usually does add value to the main story/journey. I'm always interested in going on a journey with my player characters and in Inquisition, it was a last second decision to make mine Dalish. I just happened to zero in on the romance most relevant to the plot.

Of course the plot stuff and even the breakup are entwined with his identity so if boyfriend thinks I just played something full of rainbows and easy sap, I can't even tell him the feelings side of it.

But additionally, the romance with Solas has become just one piece. I mean, I still have a lot of feelings and they can be called up for various reasons, but the overall character is such a great creation, including how they left all these clues that you'll notice on subsequent plays but one could've guessed. And how things like his dialogue should always scream "red flag" but he's also just so fascinating and magnetic you go for it anyway.

And yet....the series has been seeing Fen'Harel for three games now, as well as books, and more. And we learn a lot about him while still remaining with a lot of questions by the end. It's intriguing.

And that's incredibly difficult to explain to a naysayer who hasn't even done Adamant. :)

Hubby thought it was hysterical, when I was so wrapped up in Alistair's romance, but getting dumped and then having him feed himself to the Archdemon was what clinched my love for Dragon Age the first time I played.  Here I was, expecting this stereotypical fairy tale ending (not necessarily what I wanted but what I thought was coming) and I got slapped down to earth hard.

Even the characters I don't like usually have an interesting story to tell me.  I don't trust Morrigan in the least, for instance, and she usually irritates me with her disapprovals but she's got a whole lot of crazy in her back story and she's definitely interesting.  Without those stories the games would be a tiny sliver of themselves.  Without romancing or even agreeing with Solas you still get a weird new perspective (spirits are people, too) that deepens the world.
