My boyfriend has a limited edition expensive, huge print of Tali art, he had mounted, framed and shipped from a gallery in Europe. Some official art that was released after ME3. I'm fine with his Tali love. I find the contrast amusing.

Can we talk about how terrible some of Solas' promo art is?

I think the snarl is good, but yeah, the early shots did Solas no favors. I wasn't interested in him until a bit at the chuckle, then when I heard he was gated to female elves for lore reasons.

Sorry, but trying to guess how someone else is, what they're thinking and how a relationship is without the proper context and going off of only what you have experienced is bull****.

But in the game.....as soon as he talked....and he wasn't exactly like his promo art (which, given how they've been releasing the promo art as prints, will probably be his print  and ugh, no, please)....I was ready to listen some more.

I tried to stay away from pretty much all of it until it came out, so only knew a few things. Mostly the cool stuff that didn't make it into the game... hehe.

So I take it by laugh, you don't mean amused, but judging. Lol all I can say is I was rather creeped out myself on the outside of the thread looking in, before I participated. It's not the obsession that weirded me out but all the people reflecting themselves on the character so rabidly. That was a lot worse back when the thread moved so fast, that it didn't feel much like a community, just a chatbox. It's different now though.

This forum is a little daunting in its fervor...well initially. Prior to this - my experience to online forums was relegated to private ones. Things for guilds etc., so posting was more personal and ridiculous.   My boyfriend was like: "It's a forum.  For one character? How much is there to say?"  And I was like...uh...plenty? I guess not much since my posts more less just descended into snark, but it's been good. Met some COOL people.

 

Anyways,  BF doesn't particularly give a **** about the love I have for my husbandos - he watched some videos of Solas and thought he was a neckbeard but saw the appeal and left it at that.   Also he had to deal with me during Chrom-pocalypse and that was worse.  We fully accept each others particularly brand of nerd and move on.

With Solas, at least mine agrees/gets it. He even said, as soon as he started playing (he got his copy a bit earlier than I did), "You're going to love this guy," and predicted I'd want to romance him too. Especially when I made an elf at the last moment (I remember stuff like 'good, now you can romance Solas").  I resisted the idea because I always pick whoever draws me in the most, and tI wanted to get to know everyone a bit first, but ultimately he was right.

When Bioware was showing us all the companions before the game came out..I thought that Sera would probably be my favorite character (other than Varric).  Ha ha ha! 

 

I always make a female elf first in role playing games if that is an option, even though I really had no opinion of the bald mage elf, I thought I would try his romance first. And we all know how that went... :-P

I don't think anyone literally thought he was jealous of a game character, though; HiddenStrike's comments in that nature seemed more born out of irritation than analysis, RB's double-checking because of uncertainty and bad vibes - you never know -, and Siha's revolving more around the response to his comments/opinions/concerns (ie outright dismissal), just like the responses to the complaints that have been made are not so much about the fact that he does not like the game, but that he does not 'allow' her to enjoy it. Going from "can't understand" to "won't let it go."

 

Are you for hire? I have use for somebody to professionally explain better what I tried to say.

However, maybe one thing to add: HiddenStrike complained, more than once, about her boyfriend hurting her by dismissing her positive feelings for the game and I just don't think he meant to do so. Life could be so easy if we didn't make it unnecessarily hard. (And I say that because if my boyfriend had a pixel waifu, I'd laugh at him all day long.  ) She said "I don't know why he....", so I said "You might not have told him clearly enough". Ooorrr she exaggerated her discomfort here on the forum; you never know.

I was all about playing a female Qunari mage at first because I thought that would be the coolest thing ever as the Herald of Andraste.

 

I got spoiled on the Fen'Harel thing for Solas though and changed to elf solely for the lore aspect. Of course, once I go to know his character...

At least with Solas I broke my mage/non-mage streak (Surana/Alistair or Surana/Leliana and mage!fHawke/Fenris).

I was going to romance Cullen, who I felt was a bit meh... And then it was going to be Dorian... But I would have to play male and that is never my first choice...

 

And then WELSH happened, given that hubby is Welsh and I've been madly in love with the accent/intonation for 25+ years and this was actually the first thing that attracted me to hubby... Well my choice was made.

 

And Solas is great. Such a beautifully complex character.

I never kissed her.  I just asked her if she wanted to date.  I think of that as the first trigger in the romance.

I was still in the middle of Origins when I first began getting interested in Inquisition. I'm terribly slow at catching up to present releases when it comes to games. I had heard and became interested in Origins I want to say...a year-and-a-half, maybe two years ago? Steam had a sale and I was able to purchase Origins Ultimate Edition for $7.00. However, I am sad to say it sat in my download queue for some time before I actually downloaded it. Limited internet data sucks. Of course, when I did get around to downloading and playing it, as I expected I fell madly in love with Origins. To be perfectly honest, I thought I'd play Origins and be done with Dragon Age then, because I hadn't heard good things about 2, and Inquisition was just coming out and I wasn't sure about dropping that much money on a new release I didn't know much about. I finished multiple playthroughs of Origins within a month or so. More for story and character reasons more than anything, I gave in and purchased 2 and Legacy to give a shot. I'm firm believer of playing a game and deciding my own views and opinions concerning it for myself, rather than base it all solely on reviews. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it immensely. While still playing 2, I concluded that I would undoubtedly like to give Inquisition a try, and began looking into it. I loosely planned to give Cullen or Blackwall a shot where the romance aspect was concerned. Solas was interesting, I could admit that, and I wasn't really put off extensively by his appearance, but frankly I was much more interested in romancing Cullen or a Grey Warden for story interest. This was of course before I knew about Blackwall. Also, indirectly discovering Solas broke up with your character was rather off-putting as well. Not too long before I bought Inquisition, I looked more into Solas' character for curiosity's sake. My curious nature can be the death of me some times. I found out he was rather nerdy, intelligent, and the rest of the basis of his personality. It drew me to him, if I'm honest. I fought with myself but ultimately decided I would give his romance a shot first. Theeeeen I accidentally discovered his identity as Fen'Harel, and that put my plans at a halt again. However, for fascinating story and lore reasons, whatever hesitations I had were chased away and I conceded to romance him. No regrets, although I suffer from many an excruciating feel.

3. the same class as my PC (My f!Mahariel and Alistair were both S&S warriors while my f!Hawke and Anders were mages, though if I did romance Cullen or Blackwall I would have broken this streak anyway since my Tala is a rogue archer.)

I just mentioned it since it was a repetitive occurrence with regards to this game and also specifically he started picking at the fact I have the Solas romance tarot card as my tablet background and I've been posting/tweeting Solas related things. Which, is only natural at this point. It took my Liara thing time to settle into 'I still love you but I'm not actively in everything that has to do with you constantly anymore'  and this will probably go the same way to some degree. I'm prepared for that. The fangirling life cycle.

The DA stuff lately is him feeling that the game is just so bad, corroborated by other people's criticism and all I've said was I agree on some of the faults BUT please finish the game so I can discuss my reasons without spoiling you on the entire game/story. Especially as it pertains to Solas, because oops, a major reveal happened and he has some role to play yet.
