I can see your point there, and it totally makes sense. Though, I think, looking at it from a relationship perspective, a person in general may have things they are comfortable sharing only with their significant other. And, they also may have things they share only with their friends. While a non-romanced Lavellan may follow the same path in being open to Solas and his ideas and Solas may come to deeply respect them, the doors that he needs opened emotionally to share with them the same truths as a romanced Lavellan aren't there.

Though, again. I totally see where people are coming from in wishing a non-romanced Lavellan can learn about the vallaslin as well. I can just see why for Solas, he might not be open to it.

I completely understand the wish for exclusivity because this is what distinguishes the romance from the friendship (like Illyria mentioned). But I also see how it's sad Solas keeps this knowledge from another Lavellan (as Giton said; and I felt the same, not being a Solasmancer). Maybe I would like some middle ground... like letting all Lavellans know the true meaning but only offering a romanced one to remove them? I don't know. Solas just isn't usually the type to hold back knowledge (if knowing it is appreciated). Maybe that's where my dilemma comes from.

After playing through the Solas romance once, I seriously can't look back even if I try. Damn they wrote it too good, and him too good! I can't hate him though I know I should in the end, and thank to the DLC, it's even more addictive!

And why exactly should you hate him? It's not like hate made us better people.

Clearly I need to try a playthrough where I don't offend him by my very existence.  Though I suppose he was nice enough to my Adaar until Adaar was like, "Dude the Qun blows."  That...kind of put a dent in their embryonic friendship.  As did blowing up the dreadnought

My Lavellan is fairly anti-qun.  I had Solas with me on that quest.  I'd feel sorry for Gatt, but - no, I don't.

I know right? It's logical if you role play it, but as the player I can't see why everyone hated him. It's clearly stated he wasn't using her or didn't love her.

Depends entirely on what you roleplay... hehe.

Not logical in my world actually. I've never hated anybody. Especially not people I once liked very much. I might be angry, sad, disappointed, hurt, whatever. But hate? I think my lifetime is too precious to be wasted on something so useless. Especially if he didn't gut my family, blow up a continent, and killed the last unicorn. He simply left.

I could have been better. More powerful.  If only he would have let me absorb his knowledge and power. Also he stole my ****.  When I find him, he better believe he's paying me back WITH INTEREST. That **** was NOT cheap.

Exactly! Oh and I role played a sweet Lavellan who was loved by all, but had a temper, so she should have snapped at him, but I couldn't do it. Lol

And yeah I was shocked at all the negative reactions from it. I was expecting the worst when I tried the romance, but felt the opposite. Heck even Anders is debatable, but Solas? Just don't see it. Glad I tried it despite the comments in the past. Total worth it!

So you're pissed at him, will rip open his chest and out his heart, with your bare fingers, to play ping pong with it before stringing his body up in the inner courtyard and using his blood to write a warning on the outer walls of Skyhold. But that doesn't mean you'd hate him, huh?

I don't know anyone that hated Solas by the end. I think those who outright hated him might be ignoring the nuances to his character, might have had severely low approval (he can say some venomous things) and never brought him anywhere, so they were probably taken aback at the end when he was disappointed over the orb and just took off. Especially if they were on the low approval end where he doesn't even say a word before he goes. No I respect you, no, whatever happens, just silence.

I also think that sometimes players don't like it when the game DOESN'T revolve around the PC.  For the most part, BioWare is getting better and better at having characters be their own people, with their own interests and opinions on which they absolutely will not budge.  And that rubs some players the wrong way.  Just look at all the flack Alistair got over Loghain and the Landsmeet?  Never mind that it makes perfect sense for the character to throw a fit, what about my magical player mind control powers?  :P

My first time I played, I was a Noble Human Mage romancing Cullen, but Solas and her formed a nice friendship and he gave her the respect line at the end. I liked him since and tried the romance just before the DLC release. Also what I read was YouTube comments, and they were so nasty (all over a game character and no role play involved) I was wondering if it was real life experiences that affected these girls.

No. That's just pragmatism.  He'd understand. I would rip his heart out lovingly.  He deserves that much.

In all seriousness - I was sad about him leaving at most. Lavellan was maybe a bit hurt, but mostly worried and sad.  He seemed so distraught.   I know her first question to him would be like 'are you ok?'   Just knowing he was safe would really be enough for her.

The comments are dark and full of crazy.

And probably some IRL projecting.  Romances are very personal, and I do understand how real-life feelings of rejection or deception could get muddled up in the romance.  No one wants to deal with that when they're trying to go for a bit of fun escapism.

You nailed it. Lol

And yes, Alistair had a right to feel that way and it made him one of the most realistic characters ever to me when he showed I couldn't "persuade" him, and some characters prefer men, women or elves (Solas obviously lol) and that shapes their personality.

A friend of mine really didn't like him. But he sided with templars, allied with the Wardens, and basically just unintentionally made every single decision that Solas disapproved of. Also he didn't take him anywhere, not even the Temple of Mythal.

So then when Solas turned out to be the Dread Wolf he was just like… oh-kay? Because to him Solas had been a complete nothing character.

Bro made poor choices all round, to be honest. I told him as much. And at least he's resolved to doing a second play through and paying more attention this time.

Funny that you say that- I actually thought I did something wrong when he dumped me.  I - the player I mean. I thought I had fucked up somewhere down the line so I actually looked it up to see.  Nope.

I get the anger a little. I can't help but feel though that it was supremely fucked up to write fanfictions of companions and the Inquisitor practically beating him to death post break up. Like..I get it. It's cathartic...I guess...but if that's your idea of dealing with a reasonable break up then what's your idea when the guy totally fucks your over?

One would hope that people able to buy M-rated games are also able to distinguish between fictional behavior, and appropriate IRL behavior.  One would hope  A lot of the comments on Solas's romance were probably made in the heat of the moment.  The RL equivalent of Lavellan's outburst: "Banal abelas, banal vhenan!"

Me, I was just a mess of tears.  I was way, way too sad to get pissed because I'm basically a useless sap.

I found what Blackwall does to you far worse, but hardly anyone reacts as badly! Solas doesn't sleep with you, run off and confess he's a murderer and if you dump him, turns real nasty with you. I even accepted Blackwall back as a friend in a non-romance with him, and he implied Leliana would kill him if he did not say he was loyal. Solas accepts your anger and even apologizes.

I was also sad. And my Lavellan was a mix of sincere top option and middle option (like...70/30?), so this moment was the I love you all the way.  :( I too am a sap. This is why everything was feels for days. I put the game down after the breakup and didn't play again for like 2 days.
