I liked this ramble. 

 

And I think that's one of the strengths of the DA universe, you're free to construct your character almost from the ground up. They can be absolutely whoever you want them to be and can believe almost whatever you want. The universe is flexible enough to allow for a wide variety of belief types without breaking the game experience.

I probably would have, but I can't say for sure since I was also drawn to Solas. But I had the meta knowledge that she wasn't an option so maybe that worked in his favor. She's just such a wonderful character and, for multiple reasons, I just wound up loving her more and more as the game went on.

The one thing that kills me is the wait for whatever story DLC will advance anything to do with Solas. Given that JoH isn't even out on 3/5 of platforms and they've promised more MP DLC and they will probably do something else in between, given the track record (and whatever THAT is probably won't be out until sometime over the summer at minimum)......I think we need to go back to that idea of bribing Weekes with glitter and LEGO.

I think Bioware is dropping the ball on the post-game content. Maybe they bit off more than they can chew with things like the Black Emporium, technically speaking. But even with the story DLC, just dropping it with no fanfare, giving no hint about anything further. I'm hanging around for Solas but everyone but the very dedicated has moved on.

I've been wondering what this slow takeover of tentacled avatars was all about.

I just love being able to play the viewpoint that gods aren't anything inherently special.  It's not that they don't exist: Mythal and Fen'Harel clearly do, in some form.  But in other fantasy universes, such a viewpoint often winds up being Flat Earth Atheist (like Forgotten Realms, for example, where those who don't worship a god get cast into a creepy wall that eats their souls).  

 

In Dragon Age, the gods (or god claimants) you meet are powerful but very fallible, and there's nothing about them that makes them inherently worthy of worship.  That is what I really like about it.  It's up to the PC to decide how important they really are, and the PC can just go, "Screw gods.  Let's work on people instead."

Bioware also touches on the idea of apotheosis in a really interesting yet subtle way. There's Corypheus, who claims he will be a god if/when he does a thing. There's Ghilan'nain who was given godhood by Andruil. There's also your inquisitor whose power and mystique grow without any real control. 

 

In a real way, Dragon Age makes you question what a god exactly is. Is it just power, like Corypheus seems to think? Why does he think he needs into the Fade? Why not conquer the world with your rock candy army instead? For all that Corypheus works towards going back to the seat of the Maker, it's Dumat he calls for in the end ( I get so emotional about this part omg Giton what have you done to me?). 

 

The inquisitor is another person on the path to some kind of godhood whether they like it or not. A big part of the narrative addresses how a hero has no real control over how they are treated by history. In 2000 years, will the inquisitor be mere legends of past power, as Fen'Harel is in modern Thedas?

I know you likely mean by legend rather than any actual god-like power, but this alone would cause me great irritation if we load up DA4 and people suddenly have no idea where the Inquisitor went. I know they want a new protagonist in each game, but unless they strip the Inquisitor of the anchor and all the stuff that goes along with it in some DLC, it's going to feel really strange. And annoying. I'm tired of magical disappearing heroes. We've had way too many of them, followed by an unsatisfying reason for why they disappeared. Only to have them sort-of pop up. Kind of. Please no more.
