Oh my, do we share the same minds? I was just wondering about whether ancient/elves actually stopped physically aging and whatnot a few minutes ago.

Because yeah, I do want to know more about this little detail.

Judging by how frequently the two of us jump to a perverted place whenever discussing Solas, I'd say yes, the chances are good that we share the same mind. WHEhehehhhhh.

If Solas is Fen'Harel and not just a vessel, that pretty much answers that question.

And general fantasy immortality tends to go with the stop aging, no old elves idea...

Well, not necessarily. I'm totally on board team Solas-is-Fen'harel-is-Solas, free of body-hopping or skin-puppetry, but his body could still be physically aging. I mean, I presume immortality was something ancient elves were born with rather than something gained--though this is an interesting thought, if not--and I imagine Solas wasn't born looking like a 42-ish year old man. ;D

But yeah, I'd guess that as far as biological mechanisms are concerned, the immortal elves in Dragon Age probably age similarly to humans until they approach young adulthood, at which point I think the physical aging process would slow as they get older. Maybe it stops at middle age? Or perhaps not. I'd sure like to know...

Edit: IF immortality was something gained or bestowed at a certain point, rather than something born with, I wonder if it would "freeze" the ageing process at the point it is gained, like is popularly portrayed with vampires. Hm. I tend to think the elves just were immortal from birth, but if not, this is an intriguing thought.

Edit #2: I am out of likes. u_u Capricorn, I like your post.

I agree with you and as a telated topic, I'm ultra curious about the very brief mentions of Solas' youth and/or childhood. Like, what that means in context. Was he ever really a simple (well, immortal) elven boy with extremely powerful magical gifts once?

We also know, as to your edit, that godhood could be bestowed on someone so if Ghilan'nain was elevated but was in an ancient time where everyone was born immortal anyway, how might that work/be different?

i'm kind of on board with Fen'Harel is the original form and very slow physical aging but there are so many points to wonder about.

Meer, those fanfictions of yours took my heart and introduced it to a whole new bout of feels centering around Samson. I didn't want that heart intact or anything. Thanks a lot.

Seriously, though. Your writing is beautiful. Poetic, wonderful, and I'm jealous. Evelyn is wonderful, Samson is wonderful. It's all wonderful. I didn't know I needed those in my life until now.

Oh! Thank you so much for reading them, Elira. Your praise is much too kind, but it makes me so happy my writing could move you to new feels about Samson. And if there's any consolation to be given, Kissiebear and I weep about Samson/Evelyn on a daily basis, haha.

It's funny, I'm not so sure of that at this point, given how much Solas comes to respect and play with Sera. He tests her, she trolls him, he also trolls her back, then all of his mentoring on conducting effective rebellions and his ultimate respect for her. I think he might also even kind of laughing to himself silently appreciate her 'all of that is stupid' rejection of the elven gods stuff and Dalish history and traditions. That said, Sera also has a lot of fears, like spirits, from growing up Andrastian, and those things could create potential conflict.

That said, Merrill has enough that sets her apart too. It would certainly be interesting if we could get the three together and watch. :)

I'm wondering about the tainted eluvian and her belief that she cleansed it.  Solas would respect her "go your own way" attitude but if the speculations about his sealing away the pantheon because they were blighted ends up being accurate I can't help but wonder if he'd freak out a little about her fixing it--particularly if she was less successful than she thinks in removing the taint entirely.

yay vessel discussion!

I want solas to be fen'harel, full stop, because the big reveal kind of loses it's impact if it's only sort of true, or if the explanation is especially convoluted and some of the glamor sort of wears off

but on the other hand

i'm also nursing this "elves were spirits that materialized like cole did" theory (abelas' temple codex talking about being "trapped here", keiran wondering why elves "want to look like that", solas' emphasis on spirits being people, mythal joining with flemeth, entering uthenera and drawing substance from the fade, codex entry about falon'din guiding the people in the beyond and then being able to return, immortality an innate part of being an elf)

and also that solas is or was possessing shartan (the chantry stained glass window of shartan is suspiciously familiar, the chantry banter solas has with cole, "it makes sense, it (presumably fen'harel) holds them as they die", solas mentions "this isn't the first cause i've joined")

also, solas speaks about having a childhood, and doesn't consider the pantheon (which would include himself) to be gods

it\s a neat story either way, i just think it would be cool if he were shartan because of the parallels between the inquisition and andraste's crusade against the imperium, and how cool it would be if solas were there both times and him and varric were like "ugh not again, we're getting too old for this ****"

Absolutely. I'd kill for more of a glimpse into Solas' past, childhood, youth or adulthood. And I'm pretty sure a massive amount of the Solasmancing fans continue to go a bit berserk over the whole "hot-blooded and cocky" comment. At least I do. Yes. Yes Solas, I would have liked to see you when you were younger. And always ready to fight. Hhhng.

*blinking* Where am I? Focus.

Beyond the distracting, sexy implications of Solas' youth, I'm also super fascinated by what exactly "godhood" consists of for the ancient elves, for exactly the reasons you've said: it can be bestowed. Pretty fascinating. If I had to guess, I'd venture that this "godhood" thing is akin to the highest regarded position in Ancient Elvhen society, like an extremely rare and coveted title, given to only the most specialiest, beautifulest, powerfulest, unique snowflakeist, crème de la crème of the elves.

But wait no that can't be all, because there's that whole essence of Mythal's godhood to go to Morrigan business. Ugh. What does it mean. Tell us your secrets, Bioware.

He'd be a perfect Dalish. Just one who slices a non-elven visitor's throat as a welcome, who insults every stranger, and who sacrifices his fellow Dalish if he thinks it would gain him victory over the humans.

But now I wonder what Iorveth would do about Dalish mages. Or about the Eluvians.

So, my Lavellan, essentially.  This sort of behavior is why they sent her to the Conclave with strict orders not to harm anyone.  They figured either she'd fail and get killed or realize that humans are people, too.  She's very, very cranky about how this is all turning out.  :P

She writes them so beautifully! She makes me cry every time.  I'm just...so in love with them right now.  Also bonus - Liz drew the most beautiful Evelyn.  She sort of imbued her with this sort of Byzantine aesthetic - which is perfect for her.  Also on topic - we headcanon her relationship with Solas to be pretty respectful, mostly because she responds to his manner well. He's respectful and so is she. She also recognizes that he's clearly powerful and therefore useful. They aren't best friends, but cordial.  SO..I'm happy more people are jumpin' on this leaky, sad ship. It's not pretty but it's sweet and wonderful!

The whole concept of immortal things being born as infants always confuses me.  I have a tough time wrapping my head around the idea of a body that does the normal growing up thing and then just...stops doing it.  Does hair still grow?  Do they still have to cut their toenails?  Are they immune to change in every way or are they somehow magically renewed in a more-effective way than we mere mortals?  The Asari/Krogan thing makes more sense to me, with their body simply aging so slowly that they're still a teenager at 200.  At least the elves have uthenera to explain long stretches of not dying...
