I'm not quite as picky when it come to fanfiction but I can't say my standards arent  pretty high. Like, I'm not expecting James Joyce or anything, but you know...I will put it down if the writing is just all over the place, boring prose etc.  At this point I usually just read quick fluffy stuffy(this fits since it's not A LOT of writing) and porn. There is very little in between...obviously friends/people on here are exempt since I try to support y'all. 

 

Chicago - baby girl otter. she's a few months old now. maybe even a year.  but i saw a pic come up of her again and iw anted to share because she is adorable. google - chicago baby otter and look for the video. SQUEE-FEST. Also there is a "Director of Otters and Penguins" at the Shedd Aquarium. I feel like I made the wrong decisions with my career.

 

If they're able to perform basic grammar, write where it's not boring or making me cringe, keep the characters well enough in character, and not writing about anything that's just plain unbelievable, generally I'll like it. I know it's hard to stay entirely in character, because we aren't their writers, and we don't know what goes on in their minds like their creators do. I mostly mean I won't read a fan fiction where, as an example, Cole is a romantic interest and suddenly is incredibly consumed by romantic passions. Or where Solas is this mad, cackling, mustache-twirling villain, hugging himself in glee and giggling madly as he steals cookies from children. As long as they stay true to the basic character we've been given, all is well. I love an assortment of writing styles. I'm just...a grammar nazi. Basic grammar functions must be performed, or I cannot compute.

 

Anyone on here who writes things automatically receives a read from me. I favor you all, obviously. You get to bypass all my picky-ness.  I haven't read a single thing by you people that hasn't been wonderful and earned my love, though. I love all the things. It makes me happy. 

 

Oh. My. God. This is a death I will gladly accept. Death by cuteness overload? Oh, yes. I'm just going to go melt and squee and cry because I can't handle all this adorableness.

It's okay to admit to tears. I have no shame in saying I cried and wibbled a little bit.

This is the best puppy drawing. You can always tell if somebody's an animal person by the way they draw critters (so I arbitrarily decided just this moment - but whatever, I think it must be true.)

 

I'm sorry about your in-laws' dog. What's the point of all that science, if they haven't figured out how to make pets immortal.

 

Thanks, MTC--both for the compliment and the condolences. She may not have been my doggy, but I spent a lot of time around her and still feel the loss. I've always maintained that pets should live exactly as long as their owners, down to the second, and that way neither pet nor owner has to mourn. *thumbs up* Make it so, science.

 

And I think you're right about the animal person thing. It always seems to really shine through with those who've taken the time to study animals, or just really love them and have a solid understanding of their characters. I spent about 90% of my childhood drawing dogs, so it's nice to hear some of that has come through. ^__^ Hahah.

Gorgeous work as always, MTC! I'm particularly fond of the dead beaver hobo!Solas clutches in his bony paws. Hobo!Solas visits Canada, brings back national symbol for barista!Lavellan. (This will earn her love, once and for all.)

 

It might not be the best idea to bring genetics into a fantasy world, but it could provide some answers.

First of all I'd like to clarify that the process of aging isn't the same as growing up. The current theory proposes that aging is partly caused by the accumulation of DNA damages (mutations), which makes the cells less and less efficient. For elves to be immortal, they would need magnificent DNA repair mechanisms, because even at a low mutation rate the DNA damage accumulates and they would eventually die. And that can no longer be called immortality.

So, no mutations, no aging.

Nails/hair would probably grow, because it's not aging, it's a growth process.

 

Talking about genetics gets me really, REALLY excited. I hope I haven't bored anyone to death.

..I have thought about the genetics of immortal elves more than I dare to admit.

 

I'm super interested in genetics, though I'm not all that knowledgeable on the topic. Never apologize for science. Keep going!
