It's probably not all that active at the moment; it's been years since ME3, and not more than a peep about ME4.  Or the next Mass Effect, whatever they're calling it.  But they were really fun, chill people.  Like all of you 

 

True, I didn't think about that. The ME forums will have quieted down by now with no new games or anything. Hopefully more DA fans will try out out ME after beating Inquisition though, and I hear they're thinking about making a remastered edition for PS4 (which actually kind of sucks for me after buying the whole trilogy).

So, I imagine this has almost certainly been covered in this thread already, but I had a certain sense of excitement today, related to Solas.

 

I started two different characters, and played through the into with both. With one of them, I maximized approval with Solas at first meeting, and with the other I went with aggressive choices and didn't ask any questions, rendering 0 approval. 

 

When we were headed to the forward camp, and the mark acted up, Solas' reaction was different. 

 

For the female Trevelyan, who had gained approval, he appealed to her. "For your own sake, let's move quickly."

 

For the male Trevelyan, with no approval points, he appealed to Cassandra. "If we don't get him there quickly, etc."

 

I'm hoping it is approval based, and not just alternate dialogues for each gender, because I think that's a pretty cool touch. 

 

There is a variety of different responses but I have no idea if they're approval based.  I'll do some testing of it over the weekend and let you know.

I know, right? It's actually kind of odd I haven't spent more time in here, considering the fact that I loved Solas from the first conversation in Haven. From the very first discussion of spirits and the fade.

That first kiss was a really fun scene. 

 

The first kiss is really awesome. I remember the first time I played being really surprised at how enthusiastic Solas was about it. Now, it's like the best thing ever.

Some more World of Thedas Vol. 2 stuff from Tumblr. For those who have been theorizing on the whole concept of "Shartan = Solas", this is an interesting read:

Shartan in World of Thedas, Volume 2

 

While I’m not sure if I believe the “Shartan = Solas” theory, I can’t deny that there are some fascinating similarities. (Similarities like GeekRemix mentions in her video [here].)

 

But, I’m reading The World of Thedas: Volume 2 preview on Amazon, and I found something interesting on page 66 that I thought I’d share to add to the Shartan = Solas theory melting pot.

 

I’ll add the whole paragraph and bold what particularly stands out to me. It states:

 

Authorship of the canticle has never been determined. The earliest versions appear in the Dales around -140 Ancient. Elements appear very similar to ancient elven folktales about a rebellion against tyrants led by a trickster warrior, and it is hard to determine which parts are rooted in history and which in heroic myth. It is certain that slave rebellions across the central Imperium were instrumental in the success of Andraste’s campaign against Tevinter, but we cannot verify Shartan led any of them. Different versions of the canticle place Shartan’s rebellion in Vol Dorma, Marnas Pell, Solas, Marothius, and Hasmal – all cities that suffered significantly from the famine that struck the Imperium and where the sites of brutal slave uprisings. Some scholars even suggest that if “Shartan” existed at all, the name was a title or ideal. Perhaps every rebellion had a Shartan, and he was truly the leader of every group of elves.

Don't doubt Solas was involved though as it was the last major elven uprising that gave them their own land, a place to rebuild.

I am actually surprised. (Imagine Siha's surprised face here.) I thought lurkers preferred the desert? Have you been fooling us all along?

 

 

I am always glad for an opportunity to speak of my people! Many of us actually lurk in wetlands, but really a creep of lurkers will settle anywhere there are multicellular organisms to feed on, from birds to fungi to humans. We will eat just about anything and can survive just about anywhere, so the desert provides both "anything to eat, anything at all" and a very low population of "anyone who can aggressively keep themselves from being eaten". However, as a lurker outside of its creep is more easily dispatched, solitary lurkers often stick to the cave environments we are usually imagined to be in - it's dangerous to hibernate anywhere something might stumble upon you. Also, while venom-spitting is a perfectly natural weapon, it is also a defense mechanism when startled, which can quickly lead to new, complex social situations when trying to interact with humans.

Yeah! My Inquisitor was positive she'd get ears-clipped by the future and was all eager to rub Shartan in people's faces until she saw him in all the stained glass windows. *cough*

Fen'harel literally means rebel wolf, doesn't it? That's not really a name you're born with. It seems it is part of elvhen culture to change your name after failings or extremely important life events. I wonder if his original name might have been Shartan?

I don't think Solas is Sharten because that would involve him entering uthenera waking up and then going back to sleep again... Plus from that description Sharten is as physically dead as Andraste is...

 

However, it is very touching to think that Sharten may have loved Andraste in the same way as Solas professes to love the inquisitor, because she is a brave, visionary and inspiring leader...
