I am always glad for an opportunity to speak of my people! Many of us actually lurk in wetlands, but really a creep of lurkers will settle anywhere there are multicellular organisms to feed on, from birds to fungi to humans. We will eat just about anything and can survive just about anywhere, so the desert provides both "anything to eat, anything at all" and a very low population of "anyone who can aggressively keep themselves from being eaten". However, as a lurker outside of its creep is more easily dispatched, solitary lurkers often stick to the cave environments we are usually imagined to be in - it's dangerous to hibernate anywhere something might stumble upon you. Also, while venom-spitting is a perfectly natural weapon, it is also a defense mechanism when startled, which can quickly lead to new, complex social situations when trying to interact with humans.
I can imagine it is a culture shock for many people. Humans cannot spit venom themselves and if they fail to think outside of their familiar mindset, they will misinterpret this startled reaction. The first step should be to foster communication. I assume a few public awareness campaigns or the establishment of interpersonal meeting places could improve the overall situation?
But apart from misunderstandings with other races, I wonder about lurkers themselves. I've come across a few different species (DA, GW, SC etc.) and they look so different. Some reminded me of spiders, others seemed more like crabs or, in Thedas, dinosaurs. Are all of these related somehow or is this a problem of human translation?
I have three artists I'm waiting to hear back from on that fanart video.
...
On the other hand finding replacement artwork for the few pieces I'm waiting on permission for is going to be really difficult (I kind of have my head set on these...).
I'm not an artist, so maybe my opinion doesn't count. But you are a paying customer, right? So you should ask again. However, can you simply break the contract? Because I guess a commission is like a contract and if you wanted to drop out of it and have somebody else do the work, you surely must consider some legal aspects? You also mentioned you're waiting on permission, so I guess there's even more involved.
And I'm a bit curious. You seem to have a particular use case for these commissions. What are you doing with them/what are they for?
