Lavellan(who is also on fire): YOU BETTER NOT! SCAT. GET ON OUT OF HERE!

Solas: But...but...sobs

Lavellan(who is alson on fire): I NEVER LOVED YOU ANYWAY. *possibily crying*

We'd have to hope that Lavellan is better at Whitefanging people than Solas is. Because that's basically what he does to Lavellan in the Fire Swamp, but surprise surprise he's bad at that too. Incredibly, telling someone you love them is not the best way to get them to leave you.

I have an image of her(on fire) tyring to kick at him uselessly from the stake.  I mean it's the most riduclous scene and really just undercuts the gravity of the situation. He's standing there...in the fire holding his head in his hands crying. He kind of looks like how a Sim would cry.

Also yeah, he really did do that to Lavellan. Oh...comparing lavellan to a dog.  hahaha.  im actually kind of happy i went with the angry option. i stormed off first. the only reason i choose that is i like the way he says 'i can't do that'.

That was so awful. Regarding GoT.  I was happy it was not prolonged.

Also, I'm good at delivering the pain.

I've watched every option more then once and will choose the angry one on Lavellan #2. I think that that one and the sad, I love you options are the two best.

I don't know what kills me more, his 'I can't do that' in the angry version, or her 'Why not this world' in the teary one.

Ergh. Such feelings.

Invisible War allows you to play Alex Denton as male or female.  And...that's about all we're going to say about Invisible War.

I used to only play female PCs in video games, but Adam and The Nameless One broke me of that habit.  And I'm so glad for that.  I never would have experienced loveable Renegon Bro-Shep, Nicholas Boulton's glorious purple ManHawke, or my deadpan-but-essentially-nice Man Adaar without them.

DAO was the first game I played a male character in a game where there is a chance to play a female one. I must admit I play male characters in RPGs only if is to romance a female character (I prefer straight romances over S/S ones, and until now I find only Dorian interesting enought to try a S/S romance).

But I have always played games with male protagonist, so playng a male character is not a problem. I have simply this little distaste for games that are called RPGs but don't give the chance to choose to play a female character, since for me is a very important feature for a RPG.

Usually I find all the games with a fixed character just adventures with RPG elements, but I don't consider them RPGs.

Yeah, so am I.  I had no trouble with a lot of the scenes in GoT that distressed people, but that one really got to me.

I couldn't do that because she looks way too pathetic. i was like...stahp.  that's not my lavellan. i like them both in the angry option. like she questions him first - as she would - and then he's all 'please vhenan'(ha) and she's like 'wtf - tell me you don't care then'  and then he's all sexily "i can't do that' and she storms off.  and he's standing there with a bit of dignity and she leaves with some of her pride intact i guess.  i didn't want that last image of the relationship to be this sad puppy walk and then the sad puppy crumple face of lavellan.

I would have picked the angry "tell me you don't care" option if it hadn't involved shoving Solas.  I don't think my Lavellan would do that no matter how upset she was, so I went with sad puppy.  I agree that it's a little pathetic, but even heroes can have moments of weakness that they regret.  The anger came later, in the follow-up conversation.

I had no idea how any of that would go, so I went the way I had generally played her, mostly sincere top option, so I wound up with the sad version, which wasn't pathetic at all to me, just frustrating and sad.

I kind of headcanoned her as a more emotional sort anyway, and picked the teary option on a number of occasions, so it felt right. But so did the anger in later conversations.

Hello Solas thread, my name is Siha and I have a problem. All my friends are hellspiraling over magisters and I don't know why. I feel left out and detached from my peer group, which is causing me massive emotional distress. Thank you that I could talk about this openly. I hope you can help me.

I invite you to come have feelings about Abelas with me instead.

I totally get where you're coming from. I'm generally too proud to take the super sad options even in games because it's like… man, this is pathetic, this character is just totally falling apart here, this makes me feel weak and bad. But this time I feel like that's what my girl would do. I think she was too surprised to be angry. Just… completely blindsided by what had happened. She didn't really let herself get vulnerable with anyone else and him pushing her away like that just… hurt.

She was angry later though, in the follow up conversation, once she'd had a chance to actually think about it like 'what the actual ****, guy?' I feel like all their interactions after that point just become painfully businesslike. No more feelings, no more anger, just the polite Inquisitor mask all the time.

Same here. my Darel was too much prideful (like someone) and too little delicate for the sad response. Too feminine for my rogue, too weak. She survived too many horrible things to just became so delicate. I loved that she shoved Solas away, tryng to get a reaction. I really felt it was the right response for my character.

Solas is left knowing she is hurt, she attached like a wild beast would when hurt. Aggresively. and she have defended her pride.

Yeah the shove...erk.  I actually went with the tearful option first and was like...nope. can't.  this isn't her.  so i was stuck between a rock and a hard place.  it was also about how he looked. shuffling off. the whole thing kind of made me groan a bit.

yes yes, rolepay weakness etc. etc.  so let's chalk up my lavellans rage-y outburst to that.

this is also not a bash at anyone who took that option or thought it was emotional. it was mostly just how i - personally - ...was not feeling that for my game.  also...i actually pick the more mellow follow up.  i also like those a bit better. i dunno, the whole situation was shitty.  he dumps you. it's  a mess for every lavellan.

I am a really emotional person in real life, and while I try to not self-insert too much, I have an easier time relating and enjoy it more to explore characters who are on the more sensitive side too, especially when that leads to some inner conflict (which is going on with my Lavellan too, and I've been exploring in some writing) . So, choosing something that seems like a sad option never leaves me feeling like a character is breaking (unless they are or I'm headcanoning it that way for later) or weak, because even people who have spent a long time building their strength can sometimes be very emotional people.

I think this is probably why I can't help but push back against being really emotional in games, well, when it comes to romance stuff anyway. I'm way too like that in real life and tend to get really pathetic about break ups. The whole 'but I love you' thing is… probably something I would say in real life, which is likely why it makes me slightly uncomfortable to have my character saying it too (though, in this case I did it anyway because it was right for her). I guess I just really don't like that about myself.

I had a horrible horrible HORRIBLE Solas dream.

Solas sacrifices himself to redeem himself somehow and Lavellan holds him while he dies. He's at peace, because at least he isn't alone but she's in a state of shock. She saw him die before in Redcliffe, but this time she knows he isn't coming back and there's no going back in time...

Hey. Sounds like a good dream to me.  That's my favorite ending for him.  Bittersweet tears. He didn't die alone and he died being loved.

I can relate, but the fact it's something I would also say in real life made it feel more realistic to me, I guess.

Which is also why I like seeing other people's responses, since it's a good learning experience. That last bit I wrote was kind of based on personal experience in just realizing I've developed a greater confidence over time and accepted that I'm kind of a big sappy, emotional, sentimental person and that's okay...it doesn't invalidate the strength I've built over time and it isn't some kind of flaw or anything.

So I also like exploring the spectrum of those things, of characters on personal journeys that sometimes feel conflicted over things about themselves (not necessarily this way. My Lavellan is a bit like me in that she's more emotional but part of her conflict comes from wondering how exactly she steels herself up for the kills she made in her clan, or now, outside, while remaining otherwise that same emotional person.

In this intimate moment with Solas, she feels like she can be herself, be free. He always held back to some degree, but for her, she felt like she could be completely sincere and herself.

So the I love you option was just...right.

I managed to spoil all the reactions before actually reaching that scene. The angry option seemed so promising, "Tell me you don't care" - "I can't do that" just sounded like the perfect scenario. I read about the shoving too, but pictured it.. differently. When the time came and I finally reached that scene, the shoving disturbed me a little, it seemed too rough. It made me reload a save and choose a different option.
