That Aveline bunny killed me.  :D

I dreamt last night that, among other bizarre things, I was at some sort of casting thing with Misha Collins.  We had to test characters from different franchises for shipping compatibility.  He, naturally, was Castiel and I was playing the part of Solas.    I had to kiss him to test for sparks.  We sort of mashed our lips together with our eyes squeezed shut but we both kept peeking.  The we were both, "Nope."

Just as I was about to suggest a more natural kiss to test it thoroughly, my dog decided it was time for breakfast.  :(

Are you blind....they made Orsino sexy...they made Meredith sexy...they made Ogren sexy???

Oghren has always been sexy, they didn't call him the lady killer of Orzammar for nothing!

It's impossible to make Carver sexy, even as a lady bunny.

Or he's TOO sexy to be a lady bunny.

How_Dare_You.gif

You tell them!

This fic is everything I usually don't like, and yet I have also fallen under its spell.

Just way too adorable.

Usually I can't stand anything that brings the hahren/da'len thing into romantic fics (I've used 'harhen' once in my writing and Lavellan was teasing him at that point).  But this is really, really working.

This. I'm not all that into AUs, and I've yet to find any personal appeal in the hahren/da'len title use, for most of the reasons people have stated here already. But that fic. It's quite well done, and it's adorable, and I will confess that I'm anxious for the next chapter installment. It's addicting and fingers all my adorable sensing pressure points.

I still can't believe there's a modern AU fic I actually like. And it's so clever about it. You can tell she put a great deal of thought into how she was going to adapt it in a way that still made sense. Basically, I'm in love.

Yep, all of this. I'm not into modern AUs or the whole hahren/da'len dynamic, but this is just adorable and I want more.

The thing I love about it is it's an actual modern day AU.  Most people who just throw the characters into a modern setting and call it a day, but this has what it would be like for Dalish elves in the modern world and other details like that,  I think my favourite modern touch is the Bull's Chargers now being a rugby team.

Don't worry, your're not the only one who finds him sexy. :P

EDIT: Did I mention that I dig old/ancient elves?

I don't usually read modern AU fics either (modern AU fanarts though, I dig them a lot.  <3), but seeing all the fanart that has been done for it (and how the artists have been gushing about it) made me think that there's more to this fic than being just another modern AU fic. It's adorable, very well-written, and well thought out.

Basically, I want more of it. D:

I can't help but join in on the fangirling. I started reading "Message sent" yesterday and I've already read the whole thing twice. I should be studying for an exam, but I can't stop reading this fic *furiously refreshes the bookmarks page*.

What am I doing with my life?

You... you should probably go study. xD Fan fiction will always be there! In fact, there will be even more of it by the time you're done studying.

Also, Message Sent made me really want to rewrite everything in my long term series to make it slow burn. Sloooowwww burn.

I think this will ultimately be more effective for the story you seem to want to tell. Now with 1000% more feels. :P

SO MUCH MORE WORK FOR ME THOUGH.

It's okay. I discovered you can actually just add chapters and insert them manually instead of being bound to posting in a linear fashion. AO3 is wonderful like that. I'm just dumb and didn't even consider that might be a feature until far too late.

Of course, I'm also writing another slow burn so... I'll end up frustrating myself. xD Ancient elves man. They take 500 years to make the first move.

GO STUDY!

Dragon Age will be there when you're finished and it will be all the more fun for it.

Already started! Don't worry, I can handle my studying. Will pull an all-nighter if I have to.

Tip for the future: do not start reading new things before exams.

Edit: Top.

Ah.. I guess now's as good a time as any to bust out my first gif!

Look out Thedas, Solavellan Commando is on the loose!

Spoiler

I really hope this gif won't crash the page. If it does, I'll headdesk so hard, the desk will end up in China.

I think this is partly why I keep writing self-contained scenes. I do have an overarching headcanon but I like filling in spaces a bit at a time. The non-sequential option on AO3 is nice for that though. Perhaps someday. I just set up my first series there so still figuring out the options overall. I want to arrange each piece chronologically once it's done, so good to know.

I don't think the non sequential is ideal, but I'm also not sure that I want to literally restart everything and lose what readers I have... so I'll stick with it for now.

I'm going far more slowly now, and carefully planning out each chapter for both. I used to just pop them out, but now with planning, it takes about two to four days per chapter, depending.

Gets kind of tiring though haha. The one thing that isn't ideal about AO3 is there's no incentive to leave comments, when people can leave kudos instead and leave it at that. I don't know about other fan fiction writing sites- I'm still new to the whole thing, so I'm not really sure what people use.

I'm sure Solas writes all his erotic friend fiction on Arlathan of our Own, but sadly, this does not exist for us shems.

Now the thought of Solas writing fanfiction is amusing to me. So THAT's what he does at that desk all day.

I think the planning will help you since you started really strong and then I think maybe hit some frustration by the later chapters. Which happens. One of my favorite fics ever is unfinished because the creator just burnt out. But then you came with the side stories, which were tight and strong again.

I'm new to writing fanfiction myself so don't ask me about the options. ;) I've been using my thoughts and feelings to essentially challenge myself into writing fiction again, when I haven't in some time. So it's been both a useful tool and helped me sort through things in my headcanon. Another reason why I've been mostly writing short things. Though I have a contained 2000ish word thing in the possible final stages of poking that I may post soon. That one kind of inspired a new Dorian friendship fic idea.

Solas writes smutty Hard in Hightown fics.  But they're really tasteful smut.  When discovered he tries to blame the writing on Sera, but everyone sees through it because Sera's previous friendfiction/fanfic consisted of 'And then Avelineeeeee and belaboots KISSED and suddenly, I dunno, bees.  But then they screwed.'

I think you'll find comments are as rare as gold dust and as precious as rubies... And really useful comments even more so... Not blaming anyone for this, I myself would rather read more or something else than comment, you have to be in a special mood, but it's sad...

I've recently discovered the "mini chapter" which is about 1000 words long. One story has several mini chapters, I guess they are basically single scenes. But I find it really encouraging to write in this format because I can post frequently and get some feedback, which encourages me to write more.

For the first time this week I plucked up the courage and took one of my fanfiction stories to my local writing group and they seem to quite like, the comments on the characters and the dialogue was very heartening, they even laughed at one point. Which was great.

I'm also currently attempting to write something original and the ideas seem to be flowing… Which again is good.

Comments are one of those things where sometimes people are reading through quickly and are just moving forward, as you say. I don't always comment, though I so try if I really like something. I commented on one of Kestrel's, actually, and was a bit worried I came off as too critical, even though it was all constructive on something I really like. I think you just never know how someone will take a comment. So maybe some people shy away from risking that perception.

And then you have the people who comment on things because they want to be super negative/argumentative/haven't had their coffee/what have you, and those are, unfortunately, often giving internet comments a bad name.
