I actually did not like this - ma vhenan(initially) -  until I read up on it a little more, but ma is definitely a possessive. so either is correct. vhenan has just an implied possessive.  so it's like my sweetheart or sweetheart.

But I also hate playing a mage...so...I never get to play with Carver in my party :'( She always goes to the circle anyways. She likes it there so I guess its not bad...

Yeah, I know both are correct, but Solas uses 'vhenan' as a term of enderment (and only uses 'ma vhenan' as part of a longer sentence).  While there's nothing wrong with authors using 'ma vhenan' is something I assoicate with Merrill rather than Solas.

Fixed it for you.  Although Carver and Bela do have something going in Legacy (and Hawke's freaked out reaction to Carver's flirting suceeding is worth it when she's in a romance with Bela.  That's what you get for always stealing your little brother's girlfriends back in Lothering, Hawke).

I've always seen the 'vhenan' vs 'ma vhenan' thing as a difference based on how earnest he's being. Vhenan could be thought of as similar to sweetie or love, something you'd say off the cuff as a term of endearment. Whereas 'ma vhenan' (or my sweetheart/my love) carries a lot more weight and sincerity. Once you put an actual possessive on something rather than an implied possessive it sounds a lot more personal and intimate.

Anyway, I was just playing in the Fallow Mire, and I have never taken Vivienne there before. We run into the Skywatcher Avvar guy and he's talking about the lady of the sky and Vivienne calls his superstition "preposterous." I techincally have nothing against Bethany, if only because I feel nothing towards her.  I've tried to play non-mages but Beth never felt like my sister.  It was like a TV show.  Bethany was a guest star and Carver was a main character.  If that makes sense.

To be fair my opinion of Carver is based on when I watched my partner play DA2 when it first came out, and I think I hated nearly everybody back then, Carver especially so. I remember him being whiney. x) Maybe I need to do a mage playthrough... Bethany's sweet, I just wish she didn't have her cleavage out all the time. Sweety, you spend all day with your sister, between you and Isabela I just barely have a fully clothed human companion!

 

I know a lot of people here believe that playing Mage Hawke makes more sense for the story... but I don't see it. I think playing a non-Mage Hawke who fights for Mage rights because she wants her sister to live free makes for a stronger story, despite how Bethany seemed to be a little relieved to go to a Circle. Even Kirkwall's. But each to their own. x)

Inquisition as MMO players

 

Cassandra: Extremely good at managing parties, but comes off as harsh to new players. The one everyone goes to for tank advice. Is so serious in chat that people wonder if she’s roleplaying.

 

Varric: Has a friend in every powerful guild. Chats casually with legendary players while others watch in starstruck silence.

 

Leliana: Always knows the latest game news first, and no one can figure out how she does it. Has an alt for every occasion. Guildmates stop questioning the volume of low-levels that teleport to her and then quickly away.

 

Iron Bull: Very enthusiastic about raids, but is usually the first tank to die. Is the leader of a small alt guild. Often confuses the chat windows. Overuses emoticons. Steals kills by accident, doesn’t apologize.

 

Josephine: Doesn’t participate in raids/dungeons and isn’t interested in hitting level cap. Sits in a major town and slowly takes over the game’s economy. 

 

Cole: Is always available when someone asks for help in chat. Has the highest DPS anyone has ever seen but seems more interested in crafting items for low-level guildmates. Gets excited for holiday events.

 

Dorian: Doesn’t have a max level character, but has a mid-level character in every race and class combination. Very knowledgeable about skill combos. Will wear outdated gear if it looks better than new gear.

 

Vivienne: Every gear set looks good on her character, even that one level 50 set that everyone bypasses. Whenever the level cap is raised, she already has enough experience amassed to hit the new cap. 

 

Solas: Has a perfectly organized set of skills that were optimal last year. Always talks about the “good old days” of the game before it “sold out.”

 

Blackwall: Doesn’t talk much in chat. Seems standoffish for this reason, but is actually just really immersed in the combat mechanics.

 

Cullen: Good at planning and tactics but is too busy irl to log in every night. On the rare occasion that he joins the raid, it is an overwhelming success. 

 

Sera: Very engaged but only when the current event is exciting to her. Disconnects halfway through anything important and gets too distracted to log back in. Steals kills on purpose, apologizes sarcastically.

 

I'm definitely Solas. xD

Not at all. Bethany is the sibling I'm most attached because she was the first and my canon, because Rogue Hawke is best Hawke for me. But I, too, adore Carver. To be honest, I hate saying I have a favorite, because I love them both, and of course my Hawke loves them both. Bethany may be my canon, but my affection for her does not diminish my affection for Carver. They're both dear to me, just in their own ways. And of course this is the same for my Hawke, just stronger because they're his/her siblings, and not mine.

I recommend AO3 over sites like Deviantart for Fan fiction. It's just a smaller user base that's all there to actually read, whereas I'm pretty sure like 90% of Deviantart's fanbase is there to view inflation art of Sonic the hedgehog and one of the dinosaurs from Land Before Time. Tumblr can also be okay, but again, the sheer amount of users, and the way the site is formatted, means that people are far more likely to respond to visual art than the written word.

When he greets you without the elvish, he says, "My heart."  For me, the "ma" portion isn't a possessive implying ownership of Lavellan but emphasis on the fact that he holds her within his heart.  I do agree, however, that it's more useful as emphasis rather than being constantly used.  Personally, I wish there were a few more endearments so people had more variety to include canonically.

My problem with Bethany is how she comes across in the beginning: as a simpering git who has outgrown her shirt and doesn't even realize it.  Eventually she grows a spine and stops sucking up to mama, which makes it far more believable that Hawke would ever take her out of the house.  That said, I adored the dynamic with Carver.

Which option do I need to pick to hear him say the emboldened part? 3 PTs and I think I'm willing to give Sadx2 options a pass on The Breakup. If anyone could let me know that'd be brilliant. :>
