Though I knew of Thane dying before I played ME, but that's not the reason I picked Garrus.. I just couldn't resist the Turian.

I know XD I knew him dying but I just fell in love with him completely. liked Garrus only as a friend through the game. I romanced Garrus first though.. but Thane took my heart.. and kept it T_T
I feel good about the Liara romance since you can, with DLC, technically span it across the whole series. Though they have their points of separation and difficulty, it still all felt well done and satisfying. There are also the questions of lifespan differences and other issues. It also helped to read the first set of comics (or their summaries) that filled in a few gaps. I seem to mostly wind up choosing the most story-relevant characters to romance.
Liaramancers tend to get looked down on by other ME fans due to her status as the most plot relvenant LI, but that wont stop me romancing her or having her as my canon romance. Same with the Alistair and Solas/mage Lavellan romance (although I haven't yet done the Princess CousCous/Alistair romance yet. My f!Cousland married him for politics and romanced Leliana.)

As far as Liara, yeah, I've seen a lot of that chatter. Boyfriend is all about Tali and meanwhile, she's like my little sister. So we get into friendly, playful debates even now, once in a while, because I think Liara is the series' best character.
I'm kind of itching to replay Origins and finally do a Leliana romance, but my canon is my Amaya Cousland marrying Alistair for love.
Anders....Anders was an evil plot by the devs that began in Awakening and yet, stirred up enough in me that I followed that anyway.
Going back a couple of pages when we were talking about things that are hard to write - I'm currently struggling with a confrontation between Fenris and Dorian because I love them both and I just want them to stop fighting and go back into the tavern and play cards with Varric.

I do love Liara but I don't really care about lesbian romances and creating a male character is not the same for me cause I cannot relate to him the same way xD I did try Liara's romance and it is amazing but I still cannot feel that... amazing feeling that I do when I play with female and romance a male character ^^ and I know Liara is technically not a female but she looks too much feminine for me XD with all the voice..
I think if Aria was romancable... daym I would've picked her too! Probably would've been my second fav romance XD or or Javik.. I always wanted to romance Javik.. would've been so epic romance XD

I was just sort of having some trouble with Dorian dialogue. I'm trying to write a scene from after his meeting with his father that utilizes the option of not telling him about the letter, so an apology but also my Lavellan offering some understanding from her own perspective. A bit of quick friendship stuff.
I can't romance Liara..she's too much like a little sister to my Shepards... and while I do love the Garrus romance..Kaidan is my favorite...followed by Thane.
I love how different everyone's response is. Boyfriend loves Tali, but she's like my Shepard's little sister. Garrus is too much like my Shepard's best friend. I do love Kaidan, and feel like he's underappreciated.
I might attempt a Garrus romance on a second playthrough but it will probably feel weird. My first romances usually somewhat ruin me for other options. It feels kind of wrong to consider someone besides Liara, even though she's fictional.
edit: Or Traynor. She's rather delightful in her awkward, nerdy, weirdness.

I need to do actual work prep things so I'll return to it. But I thought of this after I finished the thing I put up yesterday about my Lavellan's first kiss with the girl who was her first love. Since I headcanon her as bi, I feel like she can offer some additional understanding in light of everything that strengthens their friendship. It's going to take some work but I'll consider it another challenge.

(I don't even finish anymore ME3. I just get Anderson speech, than turn off the PS3. I can't digest any of the endings. They are all equally horrible and make me feel sick

Liara I know I'm in the minority, but I really don't like her. I find her quite bland, never really resonate with me. With Miranda I've learned to respect the character, I liked her protective nature towards her sister. With Liara... nothing. I just felt like the game trowed her in my face screaming "here! she is blue! she can reproduce with everything that breath, LOVE HER!!!!" at every corner in ME3.
I have in mind to try romancing Tali one day, but for maleshep my preferred romance was Jack. A pity her very small presence in ME3, where she became really interesting.
This may sound weird, given the romance aspect, but I related a lot to Liara, and that was one of the reasons why I love her so much. It's not a weird type of narcissism though. My Shepard is only a bit like me, but had a lot of qualities I admired. Liara, I related to just so much.
As far as DAI, I couldn't even think about romancing Josephine, despite how adorable her romance is, because she's too much like me.
If you want to know anything about how I am in real life, just mix Liara and Josephine together.

I'm not into lesbian romances either for the same reasons as yours. xD Buuut I'll be honest, if Samara was romanceable, I'd romance her in a heartbeat. (What is it with me and being attracted to older, thousand year old beings?)
Aaand, while I love the Kaidan romance, I was hungry for some James Vega loving... If he was an actual romance, I might have left Kaidan for him. Don't ask. Don't judge.

I felt the same way about Liara. She's sweet, but I felt like Bioware has been pushing her on my face when I'm really not interested in romancing her. 
As for Tali, I'd love to try romancing her with a male Shep one day. (My male Shep romanced Jack.)

My ex romanced Tali..and I watched..lol....she's just too adorable! 
Vega is a cutie, but I dunno if my Shep would leave Kaidan for him. If Vega were in ME2 then maybe..since Kaidan was absent in that one..that's why she romances Thane, to get over Kaidan. But then Thane dies and she goes back to Kaidan. Aaaahh...drama.
