Weekes just tweeted this ! Could it be with Solas? OMG

 tumblr_nn5xmg8ow71tkkjqso1_540.png

All right. This sounds bad.The earlier tweet could be about anything, but this is clearly about Solas and something even more heartbreaking than what we already have. Why do I always have to choose the most difficult romances?  I want some happiness too. :(

Can anyone tell me, who is Sylvf1 and what did she write in Inquisition?

I, for one, am with you. The card change/romance lock after the break up gives me hope. Straight-up hope. I don't see any reason not to be optimistic.

Solas wasn't always going to be a romance option, therefore all future content is going to suck? He wasn't going to be a romance and all content up to this point has been amazing.

He's got plans that are going to be carried out no matter what? All the more reason to concentrate on his feelings and what is going on in his head--which is a whole freaking lot of love.

The break up scene is, imo, the best romantic scene I've ever seen. I don't think love has ever come through as well as it did while he was breaking up with her. I love that scene. I replay it as often as I replay the ridiculously well done kissing scenes--and I replay them a lot.

This romance is so well done. Why would that suddenly change?

This. If they were going to kill him straightaway after the game, why would they bother? Why would they bother with the Mythal scene? Why would they bother with implementing a romance late in the day? Why would the romance lock in after his breakup scene, if there wasn't more to come?

That is Sylvia Feketekuty. She wrote Josephine, as well as worked with Mary Kirby on both In Hushed Whispers and Champions of the Just, as well as wrote for the accompanying Samson and Calpernia quests.

I think they havd plans for him that extend for a while, so they wouldn't spend three games seeding the legend and alleged deeds of Fen'Harel and then have him revealed to be your companion and possible love, only to just kill him at the end.

I do have some optimism about the timing of the lock-in, but I think maybe some are just being cautiously optimistic instead of full-on optimistic.

Me, I want whatever happens to ultimately lead him to some peace. If not with Lavellan, then somehow.

I don't think anyone was implying that all future content was going to suck.  Nor does it mean that the fact that his focus has been on crit/story mean that his romance has to be bad. His romance is as well written as his overall character arc.  I doubt it would suddenly change. I'm assuming the end will be written as well as PW can manage - which is well.  I'm optimistic for good future content.  I don't know what that's going to entail, but I'm optimistic it will be there and it will be good.

I think someone in the Twitter thread pointed out they are imitating Zapp Brannigan, so maybe best we not jump to terrible conclusions quite yet. :P

I do have faith that the outcome of Solas and the romance will be handled well, even if bittersweet. I would be less upset about it involving death or being forever apart than if there was never any mention made of the romance again. Or if we just get a couple extra lines of dialogue thrown in. Nope. I want actual story behind it, not just a one-off. And most of all, I want Solas as we knew him to have some peace since I'm more invested in him and his story than I am the romance. Not to say I wouldn't prefer if my Lavellan could enjoy the side benefits of Solas at peace, but if that can't be the case then I can live with a well-crafted story that leaves me satisfied. I want the story to move me, and you don't get that from an extra line of dialogue and a sad scene. All you get there is frustrated and annoyed.

Spoiler

I feel the romance lock was on purpose, it was basically the best worst cliffhanger possible.  The last scene adding to the "WTF IS GOING ON" feeling we have with that romance arc.  I agree that any future dread wolf-related DLC will offer us closure, which will most likely be bittersweet, however I'm totally okay with something fluffy (I am a Unicorn after all).

You hear that PW? I'M OKAY WITH FLUFFY, WE'RE ALL OKAY WITH FLUFFY... and more fade-tongue......... and booty grabs...... thanks.

I'm firmly in the camp that thinks Solas/Fen'Harel is going to become the new Flemeth, aka he'll appear in DA4 to push along the plot (and perhaps participate a la Leliana/Morrigan), but he's pretty "safe" from being killed off willy-nilly.

The Leliana/Morrigan comparison is important to bring up, in my opinion, because both ladies play a large part in a game outside of their first and they can be in a relationship with the previous PC while still representing that romance through dialogue.

It may be a bug? This happened to me in one of my Solavellan playthroughs as well.

Glad to read this. I've been feeling very positive of late that something will be done. Even if it's bittersweet. I do trust the writers.

The way I interpret the cards is that the Hierophant = Prophet, teacher, tradition, part of something greater than oneself. This indicates a different approach Solas could take to achieve his crazy goals. He tells Lavellan over and over that she "changes everything". Cole confirms this when he reads Solas's mind in the exact same words after the break. I think that selection of words matters. I admit that at first I assumed this was simple romantic speak on Solas's part. Now I believe that Lavellan represents a different path he could walk but he rejects it when he rejects her because...well..."pride". He seems to be making the pride mistake yet again because he's sticking to his original plan - full stop. He's a very self confident dude. Also, I don't think HE believes he can change. Remember what Solas says to Varric in Cole's quest about how we can't change our nature. Varric challenges him on that assertion and that silences Solas. I don't think Solas believes he can change his path or himself. He's fatalistic right?

I also recall that he always sounded so hopeful and surprised when he talked to Lavellan, like he can't believe she actually cares about all the stuff he's going on about. That she's open to understanding the old ways and new ideas etc...Perhaps she gives him faith in the future of the modern elves and helps him imagine a potentially less destructive path to undertake? The journey of Hierophant could be something more attuned to helping elves from the ground up. Joining with others to make things "real" again. Rather than going all out TOWER CARD and smashing everything to pieces to clear the way for something else.

There will still be upheaval but his approach might be different because he loves someone who could make the past he lost become reality in present day. Yea, I 100 percent believe he loved her (he didn't need to say it at the end). That isn't going to change.

So like...don't you just want to shake him?

I'm kind of not bothered by the lack of actual depicted sex scene for this romance though. We get implications and body language and flirty lines but, especially if you have him remove the vallaslin, you get something permanent and life-altering and intimate that we ultimately know comes from some of his most sincerely held beliefs.

Lavellan getting some booty would be nice too, but  I guess I'm okay with offscreen booty. ;)

That scene is very intimate if you don't get him to remove your vallaslin.  Solas accepting Lavellan for who she is - it's so wonderful and sweet.

I know you probably didn't mean anything by your comment but I see so many Solasmancer who had their vallaslin removed who act very superior to those of us who chose to keep them that I just immediately go on defensive.

This would be awesome! Though I have a feeling they are heading for Morrigan to be Flemeth's replacement, not Solas. I think whatever Solas is planning seems to require more...action on his part, rather than just setting pieces in place. I don't think he's going to die however and I don't think he'll be the next antagonist, I do think that whatever he does is going to release or cause the next antagonist to show up though.

EDIT: Oh crap did I get the top post?

I'm so torn on whether or not I want my girl to canonically have her Vallaslin removed. Because her personality could really go either way.

And I think the scene is almost sweeter if you choose not to have them removed, because he really does just accept Lavellan for who she is and, I guess, in that he kind of has to accept that the world has changed as well.

This. It's become almost irksome(especially when I've heard since now December).  People feel strongly either way - same thing about did they/didn't they have sex.

My policy is live and let live. I love hearing why people kept it or why they removed it.  But not to the point where it's like 'well you accept stupidity and a lie if you keep it'. Or that the romance was somehow lesser for it.  Which is...like...not how I interpreted that in the slightest.

@Ary - Regarding the lock in - Since it's locked in for every romance. I think it's a technical thing more than anything.  The game has to know for future story stuff since Laidlaw wanted and PW is confirming now that they are doing more romance stuff in the future.  Since you're going off of a save file and not the keep, the game has to keep track of that. It has to lock.

But yes, to everything else you said.

I went with keeping the vallaslin on my main chickadee.  The post break up conversation with Cole was so hard-hitting too (as is the alt. version w/vallaslin)

Spoiler

I imagine my Lavellan touching her face as Cole says that, eyes stinging from tears wanting to be released, tears she's pent up inside, so as not to appear "weak" to her followers and companions, not to mention she's somehow convinced that she's too-far-gone in his eyes, with wanting to keep her coming of age-turned-slave markings.

Either way you go in that scene, it's emotional, and it leaves you feeling vulnerable and like... beat up, lol.

I'd like to have a happy ending so I have something to show for all of that angst I put my girl through, but, we'll see.

The last thing I wrote and put up was sort of based on that conversation and the way everything that happens to her seems to be so damn...visible. She removed her vallaslin, so she's just full of confusion and wishes people would kindly stop staring and whispering or would at least say what they are thinking instead of some quiet deference/ignoring what's there (or rather, no longer there) as well as other stuff.

She has a lot of feelings and thoughts and can't really sleep much either, even with duty still to perform. And she's never been great at concealing her feelings, which makes it all worse.

So yes, vulnerable, but Cole knows and sees and he isn't dodging it like some of the others are.
