I, for one, am with you. The card change/romance lock after the break up gives me hope. Straight-up hope. I don't see any reason not to be optimistic.
Solas wasn't always going to be a romance option, therefore all future content is going to suck? He wasn't going to be a romance and all content up to this point has been amazing.
He's got plans that are going to be carried out no matter what? All the more reason to concentrate on his feelings and what is going on in his head--which is a whole freaking lot of love.
The break up scene is, imo, the best romantic scene I've ever seen. I don't think love has ever come through as well as it did while he was breaking up with her. I love that scene. I replay it as often as I replay the ridiculously well done kissing scenes--and I replay them a lot.
This romance is so well done. Why would that suddenly change?
Glad to read this. I've been feeling very positive of late that something will be done. Even if it's bittersweet. I do trust the writers.
The way I interpret the cards is that the Hierophant = Prophet, teacher, tradition, part of something greater than oneself. This indicates a different approach Solas could take to achieve his crazy goals. He tells Lavellan over and over that she "changes everything". Cole confirms this when he reads Solas's mind in the exact same words after the break. I think that selection of words matters. I admit that at first I assumed this was simple romantic speak on Solas's part. Now I believe that Lavellan represents a different path he could walk but he rejects it when he rejects her because...well..."pride". He seems to be making the pride mistake yet again because he's sticking to his original plan - full stop. He's a very self confident dude. Also, I don't think HE believes he can change. Remember what Solas says to Varric in Cole's quest about how we can't change our nature. Varric challenges him on that assertion and that silences Solas. I don't think Solas believes he can change his path or himself. He's fatalistic right?
I also recall that he always sounded so hopeful and surprised when he talked to Lavellan, like he can't believe she actually cares about all the stuff he's going on about. That she's open to understanding the old ways and new ideas etc...Perhaps she gives him faith in the future of the modern elves and helps him imagine a potentially less destructive path to undertake? The journey of Hierophant could be something more attuned to helping elves from the ground up. Joining with others to make things "real" again. Rather than going all out TOWER CARD and smashing everything to pieces to clear the way for something else.
There will still be upheaval but his approach might be different because he loves someone who could make the past he lost become reality in present day. Yea, I 100 percent believe he loved her (he didn't need to say it at the end). That isn't going to change.
So like...don't you just want to shake him?
