Do not doubt he will call on you to help.  I think we know Loghainland is but a dream.

Hey thread! I just popped in to say I'm in awe of all of you that can capture Solas' voice so accurately in fanfics!

 

I'm in the middle of writing a post break-up fic for my Lavellan. I've only been able to pen some of her immediate reaction but I'm planning to eventually have some chapters where Solas is featured but I worry that I will get his voice all wrong 

 

Does anyone have pointers they could give me?

Honestly... if I'm having trouble catching a voice, I like to listen to the character's voice if possible. So for Solas, I'd go on youtube and just watch as much as possible where he's featured. Just pay attention to how he talks and that should help you pick up on the little nuances.

This, definitely. And also think about how the person might react to certain situations., their personality traits, quirks, values, and such. Kind of come up with a 'profile' you can work from. Solas in particular generally speaks in a very exact, deliberate and formal manner, but he has a few tells, like whenever he pauses/hesitates or even uses a contraction when speaking.

He is clipped and precise and never wastes a word. He doesn't tend to emote his language is always pretty formal. He hardly ever openly lies but he is an expert at misdirection, i.e., he has a tendency to say things that may lead an undiscerning listener to believe that he has said something when he hasn't. He has an extremely dry and, sometimes, an extremely cynical sense of humour.

 

It is really fun to write dialogue for him.
