Ah... Pedant time...

We really don't know enough about what went down to accuse Solas of bad decision making...

Yet.

But Fen'Harel, God of Bad Decisions has such a nice ring to it!

Though so do God of Dining Out, God of Finger Blast, and God of Frilly Cakes  :P

Man if you want to get rid of your shitty childish king, poison his morning glass of milk, dont condemn your entire nation to a god damn blight and let darkspawn kill a bunch of innocent people and like all the friggin wardens in ferelden. No. No sir. You're done.

The childish king did that all on his own.

Loghain being vindicated in subsequent games makes the cockles of my cold dead heart wish they could stir with life.

*snip*
It isn't until the dlc when Loghain actually defends his actions at Ostagar, so yeah, I think the whole morally grey action thing is a mixture of bioware covering their tracks and smelling their own farts.

That sounded ranty.

Nah, KoP's explanation says it for me. Ostagar was a battle lost, and the only thing that would've happened if Loghain had charged would be the entire of Ferelden's armies would've been dead instead of the king's army. Loghain's mistakes came later and were political. His military campaign in the Bannorn was very successful. He lost the political battle.

Best DA character apart from Flemeth and maybe now Solas, depending.

There are a few things that annoy me about Ostagar though, like Duncan telling Cailan to wait for reinforcements, how can you wait for reinforcements when the Darkspawn are attacking you? That would involve packing up and going on the retreat with the darkspawn less than a day behind you. Which sounds like a terrible plan. :P

All they'd have to do is scatter the Grey Wardens- maybe. They kept all the Wardens together and at the fortress as bait.

I know, dude, but we prophets have always been spoil sports...

How about "god of ass feels"? I could really get behind that one...

So to speak...

I'm trying to imagine one of Fen'Harel's worshipers going up to him and being like, "I did this terrible thing!" And then Solas looking at them and going.

Just stopping by to say that I love listening to Dorian and Solas, aka the magic nerds, bantering back and forth about their spells.

Well there are precedents you know, St Jude, 'The Saint for the Hopeless and the Despaired', and St Rita, the patroness of impossible causes...

I guess they just give you a good talking to... and perhaps a problem solving diagram...

I am sure Solas would be good at that...

But we probably do need Andraste...

Why would I want him war-mongering around Thedas then if we're about to be invaded?  Nevarra is a wreck.  Why bother with it.  We also don't know what kind of badness Solas is going to dredge up.  I still maintain there is a host of weirdness out in the forest to the West and it's just...going to get weird(I REALLY HOPE).  If he's willing to play stable emperor than fine.  If he's going to wander around wesern Thedas like he's got something to prove then no.  I do agree though, he's a much better general and commands more loyalty from the Army.

I think it will actually matter quite a great deal. I think it will inform how Orlais is in the next game.

My Lavellan says, "Let the humans kill each other.  The fewer of them there are, the better.  While he's off leading troops Briala can get some **** done in Val Royeaux."

Cole says to Solas that he is different because he is in both places at once. *strokes imaginary beard* I wonder if he is referring to Solas being tethered to the Elven gods that he trapped (presumably) or if it alludes to the fact that Fen'Harel was said to be friends with both the Forgotten Ones and The Creators. Being in both places meaning being on both sides of the battle...Or, maybe something else?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I know someone previously theorized that he was part spirit so that is another one.

Duncan seemed pretty worried, to me, but unwilling to really duke it out with the only ruler anywhere not only willing but eager to fight the darkspawn, that believed him when he said the Blight-word. Loghain seemed much more willing to write the whole thing off as ridiculous, presumably because the king was swept up in the romance of old stories and the Wardens had sketch motives (I mean hellooo, barely back from exile), but since he seemed completely opposed, it was like "this plan or nothing, people."

If we're going to try to keep people from making bad decisions, though, I think you need to keep them from making decisions, which itself seems like one of those, "guys, I got a great idea" plans...

I'm still confused as to why Loghain waited for the signal to withdraw.  If he knew the battle was lost why wait an hour until the Wardens get to the top of the tower?

The battle might have been different if someone hadn't send a blood mage to poison Arl Eamon, which kept him from bringing his troops in a timely fashion.  That might not have been so bad but somebody promised Uldred he'd free the mages so the Circle was in rebellion...

I think I'm the only one who thinks Cailan should have married Celene.  Think how much more stable southern Thedas would have been!

I figured he was referring to the fact that Solas is a dreamer, thus having influence in the Fade and in the physical world.

I wrote a fic where Alistair finds out about the arrangement between Celene and Calian. His reaction is such that he actually starts to like Anora.

:D  My elf and dwarf Wardens weren't terribly interested in preserving Ferelden as a country.  Even the Amells weren't too fussed about the idea of the two royal families merging.  They were pretty pro-stability and anti-Loghain (and not familiar with Orlesians or Celene) so they figured it would have been a pretty good solution.  It also made Loghain look mighty suspicious, like he set up Cailan's death so his daughter wouldn't lose the throne.

In the forum Gaider said he thought Loghain didn't make the final decision to leave until he saw the beacon. It was still a difficult thing to do, as he says if you talk to him after the Landsmeet.

Cailan's the one who told Eamon to stay home. Duncan is still trying to persuade him otherwise. "Eamon just wants in on the glory." Right Cail. Whatever.

Have you read The Stolen Throne? After what Orlesians did to Fereldans, that would be obscene.

I'm reading The Stolen Throne now. At one point Maric and Loghain encounter the Dalish, and there's some herb that smells almost like Jasmine and Maric asks if they roll it up and smoke it.

I am convinced this is elfroot.

LOOOL. The furry!Solas. Oh man. Horrible/hilarious. But Phosphene, his fursuit would totally have to be a wolf. A really, really awful looking wolf.

... I just searched the internet for an illustrative image, but I can't. Don't want. No. Cannot look at these confusing horrors anymore. Brb. Need to bleach my brain and go to bed.
