I actually get quite emo about death displays in museums.  Like...those people believed and wanted to be buried in that temple/tomb/grave forever and that it was important. Now their remains are behind some glass that some kid is smearing yogurt on.  It's so...undignified.  I get that it's necessary because the museums protect the artifacts, but still. It makes me sad nevertheless.

Frankly, I was surprised that Solas doesn't get all up in arms as the Inquisitor is running around smashing graves and old artifacts.

Actually, it's very unlikely that the person's actual remains are behind the glass. I know with fossils, they keep the real thing in some cataloged storeroom. The thing on display is a cast of the original. I imagine they do something similar with remains... don't know if that makes you feel any better...

And yeah, I was surprised Solas didn't get upset about that too.

Lol, I thought it was the icon for the Keep for some reason. Yes, I'm dumb....

So, hmmmm. Ok, looks like it's messed up for me then and there's nothing I can do about it. I think I played ME1 on the same account but I'm not sure. I definitely played DAI on my regular account.

I love death masks. Life masks, too. There are so many faces that would be lost to us without them. Of course it would have been easy enough to alter or even fake these masks entirely, but the legitimate ones.... Our vision of many historical figures has been distorted by the stylized renditions of them in portraits and sculpture. It's kind of amazing to be able to reclaim their genuine appearances. Here's a really interesting example with the Marquis de Lafayette:  (x) his life mask, and (x) a very stylized portrait.

Me too!!

May favorite funerary art: The Fayum mummy portraits (x). Also medieval transi tombs (x). Also, ossuaries.

A card based story game in the Keep. Pretty fun but takes a lot of patience.

What's the last court?

It's a game available through Keep.

It was done by Failbetter Games and takes place before DAI.

Wow...that tomb is so beautiful.  My dream is to work in a museum basement and clean dead things and artifacts.

You should.

Seriously, I figured I would dink around with it and end up abandoning it, but the damn thing was just too fun. And everyone, everyone who has played it will understand about a fire at the docks and trying to bed the bard. :P Or the Abbess? Whatever. I still wanted the Silent Hunter in the end.

People tell me I have strange travel dreams when I tell them I want to visit the Douaumont Ossuary. I'm glad that others also see the beauty of these places. <_<

Not the Last Court, it's the Keep, I've got it under my avatar but I've never played the Last Court.

Looks like the ME1 icon will never show up if you have the Xbox 360 version. Yeah, grrrreat... can I get DAI at least? Makes no sense why it doesn't get displayed.

It doesn't make sense for them to make an icon for the Keep. The Keep isn't even a game or something you play.

And the Icon Matches the Last Court browser icon.

And the icons are all messed up anyway... they don't seem to correct for most people.

The name of the icon is DAK-24.png

The others under your portrait are DA2-24.png and DAI-24.png

So my guess is it's for the Keep.

I went to the catacombs underneath Paris in January. People were taking thumbs up smiley face selfies with the skulls.

I always end up looking at the skulls and wondering who they were, what their life was like, their family, everything. Their own dreams and experiences. It's overwhelming and humbling at the same time when looking at a wall of skulls, or a pile of random legs and arms and ribcages. They were once as we are, and we will be what they have become. And taking a selfie with the skulls? Awesome way to remember that.

Death portraits are fascinating. A snapshot of the time, the place, and the way of life.  What I always found creepy is the Victorian hair wreathes...

I have a pair of hair rings that my father found among my grandmother's things when she died. I'll never know whose hair they were but they're lovely, intricate things. I'm terrified to wear them, though, even if I wanted to in memory of him and his family in case I wreck them. Talk about irreplaceable!

I do this sort of thing too. Wonder what their lives, thoughts, or realities were like. I really, really hated disturbing all those graves in the game, as well as the admonishment later. Also, the oculara. Chilling. And the whole Tranquility as some sort of imagined safer, 'better' alternative to outright killing mages.

I have also spent probably too much time thinking about human fragility, both corporeal and emotional. It's a fascinating subject since the idea of mortality and fragility are things people sort of tend to willfully or unconsciously ignore because of both finality as well as the potential for what we perceive as limitations.

Death rituals are interesting, especially as cultural snapshots, not merely due to how bodies are treated, but also  how each culture mourns or frames death.

I was talking to a friend recently about an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art last year that I was sadly unable to attend, but it was a curated collection of mourning clothing across a century.

I remember being obsessed with anything Ancient Egyptian as a kid. My uncle took me to the ROM cause there was an ancient egyptian/ancient greek exhibition going on. I think I spent like 2 hours in just the sarcophagus sections. The way you could almost see the actual faces of the mummies was kinda creepy but awesome. Also tried to learn hieroglyphics. Was very hard for a 10 year old...
