I don't know that Solas would quite fit into any of the houses super well, actually. Maybe Slytherin? Though he's not exactly self-serving and he's got the whole intellectual studiousness thing characteristic of a Ravenclaw down pat. But then there's that whole rebellious streak and hot blooded cockiness of his younger years which kind of coincides with Gryffindor? But also Slytherin (bending rules)? I don't know.

Well, he is the Dread Wolf so yeah, he isn't what/who we think he is, for starts. Unless you're thinking he's something else beyond being Fen'Harel/the Dreadwolf.

 

Though I do think what he feels for Lavellan is genuine. The way he was conflicted between doing his duty and wanting to be with her; the passion in his kisses and the way he holds her tightly in that embrace; the sadness in his eyes when he finally chose to end their relationship. And he did say to her at the end that what they had was real. Unless you're thinking that he lied and all this was just pretend and this was all an act from the very start. 

 

For one thing, I think it would be very poor writing if the writers decided that Solas was just one big, fat, liar about the whole thing since the moment you've met him. Not that he didn't lie/omit certain truths depending on how you see it but you get what I mean. (God, I'm bad at explaining things...)

One of the best decisions the team made in creating his character was the fact he rarely ever directly lies.

 

The fact that,aside from obscuring things, he seems otherwise mostly....genuine in his opinions, values, ideas, etc works so much better and helps one not feel betrayed or anything once it's all over. And of course, it helps the romance hurt more for being so deeply felt.

I agree. I mean it's in his nature to try to help people and be upfront. Suddenly writing him as malicious and scheming with ill-intent would contradict everything he's ever done and said.

"One day the magic will come back - all of it. Everyone will be just like they were. The shadows will part and the skies will open wide. When he rises, everyone will see."

Solas has said he doesn't relate to the current elves. His "people" must be the ancient elves. Were this prophecy to come true in future DLCs some crazy s**t is going to happen. None of it can be good.

I'd love to say that I am the head of a massive underground animated .gif network, or even that I just have an extraordinary gift for unearthing the perfect .gif for every situation, but really it's that I am a cat and this is an actual clip of me reading as filmed by my husband who is also a cat sheer dumb luck. I tend to think that the "he" referred to in the line "when he rises" isn't Solas. Because hasn't he already risen, technically? Though I could see it meaning when rises (to power), as in when he gets his orb/previous abilities back, I think it would feel a little weak as a direct prophecy if that is the case.

 

I could absolutely be wrong, but it's my personal suspicion that whoever this prophecy is referring to is someone who will rise as a direct result of Solas' upcoming actions, whatever they may be. I also think it's gonna be a Bad Thing, but in being a Bad Thing, it'll actually be a Good Thing, as far as narrative and gaming experience goes. Probably not a Good Thing for our dear Solas, but that remains to be seen.

 

... No, Solas. Don't you do the thing, you.

I feel like for Maiwe, I'm leaning towards graduate student studying the literature of Arlathan or someone who writes Harlequin style romance novels under a nom de plum because it makes mad money but she's really, really embarrassed of it.

 

But neither of those feel very... her. They're just ideas I find amusing.

I've been pondering this for a while. In a modern AU, I waffle between my Tala being a university student or being a dance instructor of sorts (because I headcanon her being a good dancer), or maybe a dance student. Hip-hop dance? Contemporary dance? Haven't decided.

 

(And it's so tempting to have Solas being a professor of sorts in that modern AU because I love the thought of it so much, even before I read Message Sent. I am trash. Just big, utter trash. xD)
