I've been pondering this for a while. In a modern AU, I waffle between my Tala being a university student or being a dance instructor of sorts (because I headcanon her being a good dancer), or maybe a dance student. Hip-hop dance? Contemporary dance? Haven't decided. :P

(And it's so tempting to have Solas being a professor of sorts in that modern AU because I love the thought of it so much, even before I read Message Sent. I am trash. Just big, utter trash. xD)

I've had my heart set on a cyber-punk AU with Lavellan/Solas

In lieu of all of the awesome Regency-era DA AU art, I decided to try my hand at digital painting for the first time with my Feudal China Inquisitor-Empress Lavellan. Any constructive feedback welcome! I know I need to work on shadows and lights for sure x_x

I'm planning on doing more feudal China DA AU stuffs, complete with Empress!Lavellan/Solas intrigue ;D

*rubs my evil little hands all over your beautiful fluffy headcanons*

Weekes already made sure hearts were ground into fine glass dust by game's end. You can do little worse. :P

As far as modern AU, I've never considered it since I don't really like modern AUs, but I'd honestly have no idea. It's a good question though.

Totally rocking out to Duran Duran's Hungry Like the Wolf. It has absolutely nothing to do with Solas other than the guy fancies himself like a wolf, while Solas IS a Wolf... but hey! It's fun to dance to.

Yup.  Snarky decker Lavellan stuck helping out grumpy immortal elf Solas in a Shadowrun AU.  UST.  So much UST.

In a modern AU, I think my Lavellan would be a music student.  I picture the modern AU as sort of the sideways-universe for Thedas, where everyone's lives take a different trajectory because the world hasn't gone utterly FUBAR.

I have loved professor!Solas for months.  I have never pretended to be anything other than fangirl trash

I'd love to say that I am the head of a massive underground animated .gif network, or even that I just have an extraordinary gift for unearthing the perfect .gif for every situation, but really it's that I am a cat and this is an actual clip of me reading as filmed by my husband who is also a cat sheer dumb luck. Happy little accidents, as Bob Ross would say.

Also as Bob Ross says: "I guess I’m a little weird. I like to talk to trees and animals. That’s okay though; I have more fun than most people." So. There you go.

YES. Do it, do it! On a related note, did you ever end up doing that ceramics painting of Solas?

I haven't forgotten! But my ceramic paint's all weird and lumpy, it turns out, so I have to restock. Though I suspect these will be more like... vague wolfish monsters which only people in the know will recognize as Solas-related (mostly because ceramic paint is a total cow and it's hard to render details). I'll find a way to foist one off on you, when I finally get around to it.

Oh, balls. Now that you've said it, I want this so much.

P.S. I totally see my my Lavellan as a mathematician/physicist in a modern setting.

Yeah, it's one of my favorites too (especially in light of all the protests around the world). Might snag a copy myself since it's so appropriate for the times and the parallels are undeniable.

So, I was thinking....what if solas's true form was a wyvern? They get a large as dragons and a lone hunters.
If you look at the statues of wyverns I'm cresywood they look very similar to the ending mural wolf sketch. Also, there is a codex that talks about andraste gaining one as and ally and maferath sliced off its hood, which would explain the scare on solas's forehead...just a thought anyways...I do have cdex entry with all this info if anyone is interested.

I think I like it because you can a more...up-front relationship with him.  I just imagine my Lavellan to be a little bit more surly in that setting.

I can see what you're saying with that - I like the idea of a more aggressive Lavellan, as well. Plus, Solas, always jacked into the fade.

We don't see Solas as a child or young man, so we don't know how he would have thrived had he been sorted young. We see that he values wisdom and knowledge now, but that could have been shaped by events in his childhood and young adulthood that we haven't seen. He claims he was cocky, hot-blooded, and eager for a fight when he was younger, which, for all we know, means he would have been eager to be sorted into Gryffindor at that age. He also hints that he had been very ambitious and out to prove himself when he was young, so maybe Slytherin? I feel Solas implies that he now values wisdom, introspection, and self-reflection at least in part because his illusions of grandeur blew up in his face, and so now he's been humbled and seeks self-betterment for its own sake.

When I think about it, I've often felt that Dumbledore never really belonged in Gryffindor, because he always looked more wise and intellectual, therefore more like a Ravenclaw to me, than a Gryffindor. But then, we start to know Dumbledore relatively late in his life, and he indeed was more impetuous when he was younger, so in a lot of ways, he makes me think of Solas a bit, the case of a young cocky & impetuous lad who became wise and more knowledgeable as he grew up.

In my headcanon, I still see Dumbledore as a Ravenclaw though, and I believe the Sorting Hat to be kinda biased into sorting people he wants/likes into Gryffindor, despite them ending up growing to show qualities of other Houses more.

I got bored today -

Please get bored more?

OK, I'm doing it - I'm mad with power - and we'll see if it's even worth scanning when I'm done.

I don't think you've ever posted your Flemythal fanart on your Tumblr. Which is a shame because I've been waiting to reblog it for ages, I love it a lot, and I feel my Tumblr's aesthetics is lacking without it. Please post it, pretty please é_è

Yes. Rogue's husband often complains I'd disturb his work but I really don't know why.

To be fair, isn't it like that with most aspects of our lives? None of us chose the families or bodies we were born into, many of us didn't choose the homes we grew up in or the schools we attended growing up (often these things are picked out by our parents, or chosen for our parents thanks to their socio/economic circumstances), but we just make due with the hands we're dealt with.

Coming back to Hogwarts, it sounds like they still "pick their lives for them" just by virtue of creating a world where magic children have only a handful of magical schools all over Europe. If you live in the UK, you get selected to go to Hogwarts. You don't want to go to Hogwarts? Too bad, wizarding boarding school is the only place where you can learn to control your magic, and thus become a proper adult and functioning member of society. (Poor Ariana...) Homeschooling? Local public schools? Dream on! You get expelled from Hogwarts (as they often threaten their students)? Too bad, you get your wand snapped and are never allowed to use magic again for as long as you live, like poor Hagrid. (Now THAT'S incredibly unfair; you make one mistake when you're young and stupid--that age when most of us screw up--and you have to pay for it for the rest of your life??)

There's a lot of control along the students' lives even when you remove the Sorting House system, though that one is also pretty destiny-controlling, now that you mentioned it...

EDIT: Now I'm starting to see why Solas is so gung-ho about everyone getting freedom, opportunities, and agency to choose their own path. I'd wonder if he'd see the Hogwarts system (especially the House system) as a rather dubious method of teaching mages, since their environments large telling them what they are rather than letting them decide who they are, and so forth. (Then again, it's no Circle tower with Templars guarding them, so maybe not...)

It's just another form of Circle tower.  Like you said: they don't get much freedom to choose where they want to go. Break the rules and you're screwed - they take away your education and your schooling (and on that topic - where do Hogwarts students learn their non-magical lessons?  Do they just reach the end of primary school and the magical world says 'yup.  you're educated.  Carry on'.  This explains all the inbreeding.  No-one ever told them that it's generally not a good idea to keep marrying your cousins.)

I love HP, I really do, but there's so many plot holes and things that don't make sense.

It has suddenly dawned on me (whilst looking at Solas fanart) what if Solas isn't what/who we think he is? What if it was all an act with Lavellan and what they had really wasn't real?

Is this what they call a hellspiral?

I'm beginning to expect the worse possible outcome which would completely ruin the game/my feels ...

Goodbye Team Optimism...

I think the one  thing we can trust about Solas is whatever he felt for Lavellan was real.

Plus it's been confirmed by PW that it was indeed very real.  I'm not really sure why people still have this worry.

Ajna!  Long time no see!

Like others have said it would be cheap writing if Solas turned out to be an evil liar who lies about everything all along.

Solas himself says that a romanced Lavellan 'saw more than most' when it comes to who he really is, even if he didn't share much.

I believe that Patrick also confirmed that his interactions with the other members of the Inquisition were genuine. I think that this is pretty important.
