Yeah, definitely. I also feel like he didn't respect the power of Justice as much as he should have (similar to an irresponsible gun owner).

 

YESYESYES agreed! When I saw his first romance option, red flags immediately went off. He says it over and over again: "I'm an uncontrollable monster and I'll only hurt you." He's conscious of his actions and how bad it can get yet it's justified by being written off like he's a harmless sad puppy who can't control his urge to mark his territory. And Hawke just gobbles it all up and follows him everywhere!!! It's just...so. toxic.

 

 

I get that they're going for the whole unrequited love angle but...

 

It comes off as creepy.

 

And super possessive.  And I feel it gets worse when you play it like I do with a pro-mage apostate Hawke who barely likes Anders and romances someone else.  He just comes off as obessed with the idea of this mage revolutionary when the reality is 'one step away from a restaining order'.

 

 

I now question our falonship.

I wonder how much of it was a response to a lot of the fandom viciously hating on Anders.  There was a lot of that, and a lot of "My possessed husbando HOW COULD YOUUUUUU" when DA2 came out.  It was kind of scary TBH.

Mostly because DA2 is so glitchy that I can't get to that point. DA2: doesn't register romances or friendships

DA:I game crashes randomly

ME:1 Game crashes when I try to go to a new planet I  don't have a quest objective for.

Inquisition I'm not too worried about, since they're still producing new patches. The other two are annoying, but I can potentially mod DA2 to make it more functional. I don't really know what to do with ME1 but it's not a huge deal anyway.

I played my versions of ME1 and ME2 on Steam, as well as DAO. I had disc for DA2. The keys in Steam can be used in Origin to unlock on both platforms though. I had no real issues with Steam though.

I swear to Falon'din, if he had struck her at any time, that would've been it for me. I would'a just closed YouTube. Just him looking at her wrong really skeeved me out. I was like...

I've never got the Michel appeal.  I found him unlikable in the book and bland in the game.  But then the only characters I liked in TME were Best Elf and Bria.

I don't really like anyone in TME, if I'm honest. It was after Imshael, I think. I don't know, I'm being unfair on them because they didn't really have much choice, but Celene confirms that there were kids playing around in that camp, and those kids, I can only assume were flayed, boiled and burned alive by Imshael, yet none of the characters seem to care, they don't even think twice on it. That's the kind of thing that would screw up a normal person's mind, and it left me just thinking that they are all bad people. 

 

I probably just misunderstood the situation, lol, the keeper gets the blame by most people, and I can see why, but ultimately it was their group that broke the bindings and released Imshael, so I blame them. Michel does go off to defeat Imshael and redeem himself, but he is still an ass for other reasons, and I had to do like 99% of the work.

 

So, yeah, there was a big rant barely related to your post at all.

I think what's important to remember is that people who are bi/pan/fluid/etc can and do sometimes have preferences. I make reference to my boyfriend and I'm in the Solas thread, but I consider myself open to whoever I'm drawn to. In a game, with somewhat limited interactions, sometimes there's shorthand. And DA2 was a bit weird with making all companions available to both m/f Hawke. Or the "playersexual" issue. DAI is more realistic. And people have said similar things to you about Josephine, for instance. How she gets betrothed to a man and how if you don't romance her or Blackwall, there are hints they like one another. Some people took that as 'erasure' when it comes to Josephine. Whereas Iron Bull will talk about bedding the barmaid but also wind up with Dorian in games where neither is romanced and they're in parties together. And Leliana often comes up since she's bi but prefers women. Not that you can't have a male Warden paired with her that she'd be happy with.

 

With the aceSolas thing it's weird because as Illyria said, you kind of have to ignore or bend certain things to believe that But there, it's sort of harmless. It just keeps coming up. I don't mind that there's no actual sex scene but I don't take Solas as lacking in sexual urges.

 

Not all asexuals completely lack them but people like my asexual friend do, and I can understand people who don't choose certain options imagining 'bed' was all cuddles and maybe kisses, but it doesn't mean the rest of us are looking too deeply into things. First kiss involves being dipped onto his thigh, after all.

I can completely understand that. My partner is bi, so I realize that there is and can be preferences for a particular gender while still being attracted to both. My point was that until you saw the content to specifically state otherwise, there was nothing to suggest any of the characters preferred others. In that respect, I can even understand where the ace!Solas fans get their idea from, as from what I can remember there's only a few indications that Solas is otherwise, and you either need flycam or to choose specific options (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though). Now, if we'd had that fade-to-black scene regardless, then it would be a seperate issue.

 

PS: My understanding doesn't mean I agree. As I said, I don't care about anybody's sexuality enough to argue about it. So long as you're a groovy person, you can be or like what/whoever you like, it's no business of mine unless I'm trying to doink you. x)

Same here. Before I read TME, I just found him "okay". Nothing special (but pretty to look at). Then I read TME and I just really don't like the guy. 

 

But alas, even though I hate him, I can't help but stare at him every time I bump into him in the Skyhold gardens or when he walks around outside Blackwall's barn because I find him pretty... Ugh! I hate myself...

This. Ishmael's massacre of Clan Virnehn and the group's non-reaction to it just made me dislike the group (Celene, Briala, Michel). I still like Felassan, but even I had a problem with how he acted like he didn't care with what happened to them. He may not particularly care about the Dalish but like MoonDrummer said, this is just screwed up. 

 

And yes, they mentioned the children playing and training around the camp and my heart just died when I read what happened to them...

 

Basically, the whole Ishmael bit left me a bitter taste in my mouth when it came to how I felt about the group. Before that, I was alright with most of them (except Michel).

I think he did the best he could in a pretty bad corner. It's Orlais' screwed up racism, politics/The Game, and all that that that's really to blame. The old noble tried to give this one elf-blooded boy a better life. He's a trained chevalier and lives by their code. Does he participate in the alienage thing? Yes. The Imshael stuff was a bit of a desperate plan, but I blame the clan there for its recklessness. Michel exuded loyalty and honor and determination. I wonder if Briala's plans would also include those with non readily apparent elven heritage who live with some of the oppression.

 

Michel isn't perfect but he's interesting to me. And I really liked him. He's a good guy, IMO. He even kept on wanting to go after Imshael to  make up for things and to be honorable.

 

I also tend to stop him in Skyhold. He says the same thing but I can stare.

I blame the Keeper.   I don't think the entire clan deserved that kind of massacre. (The children... *sobs*)

 

Yes, Michel's not perfect, but even so I despise that man. Sorry, he just really rubbed me the wrong way in the entirety of the book. If I'd read TME first before playing DA:I, I would have never reunited him with Celene.
