I don't think it's foreshadowing but it is important discussions on Coles character. It's all stuff about angels becoming more human. Or having deep and meaningful relationships with people. So not totally useless. I think solas banters with sera are actual foreshadowing.

Ugh, seriously, stop giving me prompts involving Tranquils.

 

I peeked at something different on AO3 and saw one of the results was someone was fulfilling a kink meme request for "emotionless sex" between tranquils. I noped out of there very fast.

 

I think I might need to actually make the effort to write something LIGHT for once.

 

I ran across one where Dorian overhears two tranquils talking about sex. I couldn't help myself. I read it. It was hilarious and did not end up creepy.

that is actually a good point, and i can't say the idea of them having movie nights isn't freaking adorable

My silly AU: Solas is a literary critic

Lavellan writes romance novels under a pen name to pay the bills, but one day Solas reviews one of her novels. He hates it. He says it's the worst, most insipid piece of drivel he's ever laid eyes on.

That kind of reminds me of how my boyfriend and I met. He criticized something I wrote up and organized and worked sort of hard on. Solas as literary critic could be such fun to write, I bet.

I love pretty much all sexy Solas.  Including dom!Solas.  Though I especially have a thing for dom!Lavellan.

Any Solas is usually good Solas, except I'm not really fond of the 'hahren' dynamic.  I tend to write my Solavellan stuff as trying to be playful, romantic, emotional, but not any one way or another. I guess more balanced. I like the notion that his respect and love has him treat her more like an equal. That balance, to me, feels right.

I like it as a character development marker for younger Lavellans.  For mine at least, they start off calling each other hahren/da'len because they're still strangers, and Solas is honestly a little patronizing at the start.  They stop after Haven, when Solas starts thinking of her as "lethallan" instead, an equal who's come into her own.  My Lavellan still calls him "hahren" on occasion, but it's playful, making fun of him for being an old grumpy butt 

 

I'm ok with a little mentorshipping in the early relationship, but if it becomes the dominant dynamic, I'm not really fond of it either.

I can see your point on that, and it works if it's not the dominant dynamic throughout, as you said. Also, definitely for a younger Lavellan.

 

I write her a bit older and having been talented, important in her clan, chosen for this Conclave duty based on multiple factors, having earned that duty, and having been in a couple of previous relationships with women and men. She's already more self-assured on her own before winding up in this strange situation and out of her element. So while everything does test her, she's pretty strong and has lived and loved a bit before all of this.

 

And yes, he can definitely be a bit rough around the edges and kind of an old grumpy butt. Though I do love his delightfully snarky (*Oh god, not this again*) bit about the Dalish getting something right and planting a tree from early conversation.

My Lavellan is also young (she's 21) and so the hahren/da'len thing was something they called each other while they were still in Haven but once they reached Skyhold (and before the kiss), that's where Solas started calling her "lethallan" and then the whole hahren/da'len thing stopped.

 

I was gonna say more but in short, yeah, pretty much the same thing as what you said. xD  (My brain is getting fried in the summer heat at the moment...)

I've noticed that I'm making my mage Lavellan snarkier than my canon rogue. My canon is a mix of top and middle option, whereas mage veers toward middle a lot and an overall greater mix.

I really cannot stand the hahren/da'len thing.  In particular Solas thinking of her as 'da'len' in a romantic context.  It's creepy and it creeps me out.

 

I can, however, put up with it in Message Sent because the rest of the fic is so good.

It's a shame Kelgrid doesn't like Solas more.  She's such a huge fan of Cole so I thought she'd like his fade-dad too.
