Modern AU where Corypheus and Lavellan/Trev/Adaar/Cadash are political opponents running against each other to be the mayor of their small town. They call their seat of power Skyhold. Solas is the grizzled campaign advisor who has seen it all, back when he was running with the big boys in DC.

And I also agree. I managed to finish my human play through and romance Cullen, but it just wasn't the same. The game was missing the magic that it had when I played an elf. I tried playing a Qunari so I could romance Bull, but I didn't get very far. The Solas romance is just so perfect, everything else is just blah compared to it, in my opinion anyway. If I had played a different character first, I might feel differently.
Same here. I think you hit the nail on the head saying the game was "missing the magic" of the elf playthrough.
What's funny is I felt rather disillusioned with Solas during the Orlesian Ball ("I'd forgotten how much I missed court intrigue" Me: O_o), and seriously considered breaking up with him or going back 40 hours to before the romance officially started (kiss on the balcony) to pursue Cullen instead. However, I just couldn't face replaying all those hours, and figured, "The game's almost over, so might as well see this to the end." I'm so glad I did. I found Solas' final romance scene and the romance's affect on the main story to be so enriching, and just kept thinking, "I'm SO GLAD I chose to stick with it."
My feelings would probably also have been different if I'd followed my rash impulse to jump ship and romance someone else first playthrough. ![]()

I know that feeling. My Lavellan was intended for Sera but the romance just felt forced (Sera hated Lavellan's background, her magic, all her choices, her pro-mage stance, her pro-elven stance...) and I really started to get the feeling after the trek to Skyhold that Solas was hiding something and if I didn't romance him now I'd regret it because I'd be spoiled in any future playthroughs. Plus, the fade date happened and Lavellan forgot all about trying to win Sera's love.

If I hadn't romanced Solas first with my Lavellan...I probably would've gone for Josie TBH. The two of them can be sweet, adorkable, intelligent Disney Princesses together, and everyone at Skyhold just vomits rainbows when they walk into a room. My BFF is still occasionally pushing for that over Solavellan hell ![]()

If my Adaar doesn't go for Sera then she's romancing Josie. She's just so sweet and adorable and her first flirt with a qunari is made of cute (the one you get in the background converstation in Haven).

Yeah. Some people do that to be like 'oh look what i discovered' and gain a lot of followers. That pandahart has a popular tumblr and that picture has been around since like...December. I really dislike those type of pages. It's so unfair to the artists. Usually they just ignore anon hate and keep on keepin' on. It's not until they catch the attention of a popular and more...vocal artist do these people stop. I really do hate these tumblrs.

Oh, I hear that. Before my first playthrough I was thinking the Dalish Inquisitor would romance either Sera or Solas, and the deciding factor would be who she liked more and who hated elves least. (I'd heard beforehand that Sera was "not your typical elf" and Solas "doesn't want to be seen as just another elf," so I was prepared for some anti-elf feelings from both of them). I was actually leaning toward Sera at the time.
While my girl became fascinated with and fell for Solas quickly, I (the player) kept thinking, "Not until meeting Sera." Then I met Sera and... well... In the time it took her to scowl, "Aaaand you're an elf. (Sh*t!) Well, I hope you're not too elfy," I thought, ". . . WOW! Never mind. Solas it is. By a landslide!"
I had also heard that he was race and gender-gated for female elves only, and the devs had said, "It makes super story sense." Like you, I really wanted to learn what it was with the elf romancing him so it wouldn't be spoiled for future playthroughs. So glad I did!

EDIT: And LOL, Sera does pretty much disapprove of everything an "elfy" mage Lavellan stands for, yeah?

I intended for my Lavellan to romance Bull. I was soooo ready for him because A QUNARI LOVE INTEREST AHHH~ I hurried through the first part of the game until I got him cause I was sooo raging for him and started flirting like mad, but it was... i dunno... nothing??? Like, Cullen was cute and awkward, that was something, and Solas was incredibly intelligent and smooth like whoa. I was expecting Bull to be the smooth one but he was very straightforward and it never really felt like there was flirting... or any real interest on Bull's part.
But with Solas, oh my GOD, after that first kiss I was like, "This is it. HE is the One for her."
After being disappointed by Bull, I knew it was going to be between Cullen and Solas, but Solas won with that fade tongue. I mean, oh my freaking GOD.

Found a really great Solas vs Tevinter/Dorian Pavus piece on the fantastic racism in DA:I and how it relates to real life racism.
As a note, this is what Solas means when he tells Dorian: “If you’re really sorry [about what humans have done to elves] release all slaves of every race [in Tevinter right now].”
Shocked, Dorian replies along the lines of, “I don’t know if I can do that.”
And it’s true: No, he can’t.
You can’t put the elves back where they came from. You can’t put all the poor in humane living conditions now. You can’t put the slaves back because history has run its course. It’s too late.
And Solas knows this. Dorian’s apology is genuine, but it is worthless in the face of history. So he says, “Then how sorry are you?”
How sorry can you be? You’re already, irreparably, historically and contemporarily, racist. And you will always be; your history can never change. That is your legacy, forever.
Think about that, then think about all the nice white people who are just so sorry about the enslavement of African Americans - but what is that, in the face of this society? White society - though corrupted - still has everything they stole from black people and other PoC. They can’t return it. It’s too late.
Tevinter, though corrupted, still has everything they stole from the elves. They even still own the actual elves - and it’s too late for an apology. Far too late. Their actions shaped the world to hate elves.
And that’s what Solas means: if an apology is all you have, too little too late to the fact, completely and totally worthless to the victims after everything that’s happened… then how sorry are you?
Not sorry enough. You can never be sorry enough.
(This game is strangely on the ball when it comes to racism and Solas’s reactions to all racist ignorance.)

Found a really great Solas vs Tevinter/Dorian Pavus piece on the fantastic racism in DA:I and how it relates to real life racism.
Last thing I want is to make the conversation tense, but I don't fully agree with that blogger.
I think what Solas meant was Dorian saying sorry for Tevinter enslaving Elvhenan is empty because elves--and other races--are STILL enslaved by Tevinter today, and what is he doing to help them? If he isn't working toward improving the lives of elves he can help now, then how sorry is he really?
This also ties into Dorian's character arc through the rest of the game. He loves Tevinter even though he knows it's flawed, and he constantly toys with the idea of going home and trying to reform it from the inside, but doesn't fully commit. He only does so near the end, depending on how much the Inquisitor inspires/encourages him to try. Until that time, he constantly vacillates between being upset with what Tevinter is and actually doing something about it.
I think Solas is touching on that indecision in this party banter: It's true that the past is in the past--you can't change it. Saying "I'm sorry for what Tevinter did" doesn't change what Tevinter did. However, you can try to change what Tevinter is doing now by trying to help its enslaved victims now. If you're not going to try to help people now, then it really is an empty sentiment to express pity when you have no intention of acting on it.
That's my interpretation, anyway.

Talking to Dorian about slavery is pretty interesting, however. He says he hates it but then he points out how slaves have better homes and food and lives in general than Alienage elves. Sadly, he has a point, though there are much worse downsides to being a slave than poverty and Chevaliers, namely having your children sold to strangers and your life at the whim not of essentially random violence but your master who might choose to slit your throat for a party trick.
In truth, a Lavellan that hasn't really been exposed either to city elves or slaves probably never really thought about what their lives were like or what would happen if what little good (be it community or simple sustenance) were taken away.

Yep, I kind of imagined maybe Sera or Cullen, kind of just, as usual, went with whoever drew me in most. Sera and her 'elfy' objection. Though I kind of leaned toward Solas, I still kept flirting with others and figuring it out but then sometime in Haven, I just never used a flirt option with anyone but Solas after that.

I feel like you pretty much said what the blogger was saying 'cause you're both saying "saying sorry ain't jack but you can still take action." There's only so much one Tevinter noble can do if he doesn't have more people to back him up but he can still do something. Not only that but his family still owns slaves and he defended slavery in Tevinter on multiple occasions.

Another good opinion on Tevinter slavery to consider in this whole discussion is Krem's. The story of his father and how he sold himself into slavery to otherwise provide, due to the cheap labor slaves provided and the inability of actual lower class business owners to compete.
