You mean like... IANTO JONES? If that's the case I've thought about that buuuuutttttt, I haven't watched Torchwood so I'd probably just be Solas in a Suit. (And Han Solo has been on my list of thing to draw for the longest time.)

 

Carpool, I love Han Solas. And the bee gun is awesome!
And, I'm seconding the notion of Indiana Solas (or Solas Jones), that seems to fit out apostate researcher even better. We need Indiana Solas and the Elvhen Ruins of Doom, or Indiana Solas and the Last Exhaulted March, or even, Raiders of the Lost Necropolis.

Eh, I'm probably reading too much into it. Trying not to have hopes that are too high but it was my initial thought.

Been reading the various posts with scenarios; thought of one.   It depends on whether you can see the memories of animals in the Fade but I think that if they are intelligent animals then you would.     So Solas has encountered our DA2 Mabari and has seen the memories of when he plays Varric at cards but also got an insight into how Varric plays too.    Then Varric asks if Solas has ever played and he says no.   Varric suggests they play and promises to easy on him, probably involving Iron Bull and Sera too.    Solas fleeces them all rotten and they have absolutely no idea how he did it.   Just gives an enigmatic little smile.

It could be typical dev teasing and still be about Bull.  Healthy pessimism, yes.  Healthy.  For the heart.

 

Seeing as it's near the endgame, I could understand wanting to keep quiet on who he's talking about actually.

 

Let me rephrase that: If Bull is his only romance then not saying the name doesn't actually change that it's a teeny spoiler for Bull's romance.  But over-analyzing teasing between devs is never a good idea.  Especially not if they can get some teasing of the fans in while they're at it.

This is why that was my initial thought. If he had another romance (which we know isn't Cole & he wrote Bull/Cole/Solas) then it would make sense. If he didn't have another romance, it would've been the same as saying Bull's name outright.

But yes, healthy pessimism is the best route. For our souls. 6 days until Gamescom.

Studying the past, whether through books or dreams, could invoke a number of emotions. Love, pain, happiness, lust, want, kindness, ire....all of these things that living, thinking creatures do, would be represented in these mediums he uses to study. Again, at least it makes sense to me.

So imagining him with a romantic side, seems possible, maybe even probable (IF he is an LI ).

Studying the past, whether through books or dreams, could invoke a number of emotions. Love, pain, happiness, lust, want, kindness, ire....all of these things that living, thinking creatures do, would be represented in these mediums he uses to study. Again, at least it makes sense to me.

I think it's definitely possible!  I was kind of thinking about it the other day that all we really know about Solas's personality is that he's very private, passionate about his beliefs, and is quietly confident.  But that doesn't really say anything about how he'd interact with someone he considered a friend (or more).  Maybe he's still sort of closed off once the Inquisitor befriends him or maybe he's the elven embodiment of sunshine.  We're just going to have to wait for the game to see how the friendship arc plays out.

I'm leaning towards Iron Bull being the one, mainly because I don't see a relationship with him starting out as romantic. But, in the end, perhaps that could be the result of some character development.

I also think about that. It's like... he seems to be a romantic in my mind, but for all we know our Inquisitor could say "I love you" and he could be like "I know." and then he walks off to take on some awful fade demons alone.

I started reading into the first tweet too but stopped myself. Then it just turned out Sheryl was leery about romance scenes and I was just like "of course it was something that mundane ".

Looking at it again objectively, he didn't really spoil anything I suppose. There's a romantic scene near the end of the game. It "broke" Sheryl. The part about Sheryl is mainly what I was focusing on since there's not much reason to assume there wouldn't be romantic scenes near the end of the game, IMO.

 

Though I can't quite picture either Iron Bull or Solas as particularly romantic to be honest. Iron Bull strikes me as being raunchy and kind of awkward if he does get serious about things. Solas... I'm wondering if he might not be too logical minded to really get emotional gestures down correctly, so there will be a lot of reading between the lines with him. Just guesses. Either way, I'd be cool but I kind of prefer subtle or non conventional romances anyway.

In all seriousness though, I'm leaning toward it being the Bull... just because somehow I see Sheryl going for him as a romance over Solas... Hard to say. I'm just feeling a bit pessimistic lately what with the fact that, were it not for the GDL q&a, it almost feels like the devs forget Solas even exists   Hopefully that'll change at Gamescom...? I'm just worried we'll get another demo with the characters we've already seen.

I don't think when he said "romantic character bit" he meant "romantic" to be modifying "character". I think he meant "romantic bit" that was character focused. 

 

EDIT: which is not to say that Solas or Iron Bull can't be romantic characters. I just think Patrick was specifying that it was a scene which was part of one of the romance paths, not that the character himself was "romantic".

I don't think we know enough about either character to say what they'd be like if they fell in love.  Maybe Bull is super affectionate.  Maybe Solas is really eloquent.  We have very little idea how either of them treat people they like and trust, much less are intimate with (personally, I think that's as it should be, those are things we should find out by experiencing them in game).

Any one else wonder if this exchange might imply that Blackwall isn't a romance? Then again, a good writer could still write an effective romance even if romance in general "freaks them out" (an interesting choice of words, though. I'm curious what exactly she means). Anyway, I'm probably reading too much into it, but I'm surprised no one's picked this up to panic about in the Blackwall thread, given how starved for LI info many of us are, haha...

Agreed.  I don't want to know what kind of romance a character will be ahead of time... just whether they're a romance. It is fun to speculate though, and personally, I love romances that end up showing a side to a character you would not expect. I think that's why the Garrus romance in ME is my favorite game romance - to see this guy who is normally self-assured and a bit of a badass get so flustered and awkward - it was really surprising and endearing.
