I don't think when he said "romantic character bit" he meant "romantic" to be modifying "character". I think he meant "romantic bit" that was character focused. 
 
EDIT: which is not to say that Solas or Iron Bull can't be romantic characters. I just think Patrick was specifying that it was a scene which was part of one of the romance paths, not that the character himself was "romantic".

There may be a bit of misunderstanding here. I wasn't commenting on the actual tweet, but instead on what it inspired a few posters to consider or postulate, on whether or not Solas would be the "romantic type".

Agreed.  I don't want to know what kind of romance a character will be ahead of time... just whether they're a romance. It is fun to speculate though, and personally, I love romances that end up showing a side to a character you would not expect. I think that's why the Garrus romance in ME is my favorite game romance - to see this guy who is normally self-assured and a bit of a badass get so flustered and awkward - it was really surprising and endearing.

 

I loved Garrus in ME1 but ME2 made him even more endearing, I can barely take it.  Almost done with my first ME2 playthrough, I hope he doesn't ruin all the other ME romance options for me.

Ah good point. Still, I do wonder what she means! Maybe adorable schmoopy stuff makes her uncomfortable? Or maybe tender/intimate scenes? I mean, I had to cover my eyes the first time I got a sex scene in DAO, but mostly that was because it was so unintentionally hilariously awkward. 

 

This is what happens when they don't just give us the info! We go crazy with speculations.

Ah, apologies then. Maybe it wasn't you, but it did seen like people were interpreting his words to mean that the character he was talking about is 'romantic' as opposed to the scene he showed Chee being a scene involving a character's romance path. I might have misunderstood the conversation tho.

I am surprised that no one has taken this as some sort of definitive proof that Blackwall isn't an LI--either people haven't noticed yet, or we've grown up a bit! (I highly doubt the second option.) That said, SC wrote both Leliana and Isabela, so she's written romance plots before.

Yep, two other people have reminded me of her previous LI-writing exploits. 

 

Honestly, people have freaked out over less (the whole "She joked that Blackwall doesn't like sex or danger! He must not be an LI!!" thing)

 

I'm certainly not advocating for people to panic, lol. (just surprised, though thankful they're not. XD)

I don't think we know enough about either character to say what they'd be like if they fell in love.  Maybe Bull is super affectionate.  Maybe Solas is really eloquent.  We have very little idea how either of them treat people they like and trust, much less are intimate with (personally, I think that's as it should be, those are things we should find out by experiencing them in game).

 

 

I agree. I admit my speculation is probably largely influenced by my preferences but it'll hardly be a deal breaker if I'm wrong.

Although the tweet doesn't necessarily mean that the character in question is generally romantic,  it is very much implied that the romantic bit *is* significantly 'romantic' as otherwise it surely wouldn't make Sheryl uncomfortable?  So whoever it refers to must have a romantic streak at least... I DO hope its Solas

I have this thing where if a fictional character I like is about to enter a romance plot line, I get a little anxious about how I'll feel about the character afterwards. Sometimes it's a matter of the quality of the writing suffering, other times it's just seeing how they act when they're in love that changes your perception of them. I wonder if it's something like that.

No worries. I didn't read it as mean spirited at all. I pretty much agree with this mindset. It's part of why I generally avoid the fan written party banters. I saw a couple I liked but I realize it runs the risk of me having trouble reconciling with what the characters are actually like in game (even knowing they're only done in good fun).

Yeah... the fact that apparently Blackwall prefers a hot water bottle and sturdy shoes (can't remember the exact quote) to the above definitely gave me Old Man Who Isn't A Romance vibes, but, ya never know   (though it definitely doesn't help with the whole Blackwall reminding me of my dad issue...)

 

And I think we're all at the point know where we're paniced-out. We've all spent so much time wondering, and reading into things, with all the associated highs and lows we're a bit hard to faze one way or another at this point.
